I protest the lack of English and German in this poll!!! That said, I checked 1 and 2, since I'm nowhere near fluent in German, though 5 years of study should count for something. -------------------- Gamble with Gaea, and she eats your dice. Dude, "fluency" ain't exactly the measuring stick being used here. If it were, then nary a person would know any more than a single language. Hell, under those standards, one might argue that spy.there doesn't "speak" English, even though she's clearly functional with it. -------------------- * Posts: 6936 | Registered: Tuesday, September 18 2001 07:00 |

A surprising amount of people speak nine languages, and an even more surprising amount speak no languages. :P I myself am an uncultured American fool, meaning I speak only English. I am learning Spanish, and could carry on half of a conversation, but I'm not really fluent. I'm also surprised that the first post in this topic wasn't TM in Japanese. -------------------- But I don't want to ride the elevator. Posts: 420 | Registered: Sunday, January 8 2006 08:00 |

I speak English, a little French, and a little Latin (with a bad French accent). At one time, I was going to try to learn both German and Greek, but somehow that never panned out. Posts: 437 | Registered: Sunday, July 13 2003 07:00 |

I speak English, and I've studied Spanish for several years. Unfortunately it wasn't a very pleasant several years since it is my worst subject (if only everything could be as black and white as mathematics). -------------------- Guaranteed to blow your mind. What the heck? Even using a liberal definition of "speak" -- say, "can communicate using said language without herculean strain" -- there are very few people here who possibly speak more than three languages. Whoever speaks four or six or nine languages, you've got some splainin' to do! -------------------- Slarty vs. Desk • Desk vs. Slarty • Timeline of Ermarian • G4 Strategy Central Posts: 3560 | Registered: Wednesday, November 7 2001 08:00 |

quote:Actually no, I can't speak Italian. I can understand it fairly well and read it correctly, same with Portuguese, but I have a hard time coming up with sentences. Although I should say that am better at Italian than Portuguese. You mean we have to communicate when speaking? There go most languages. In fact, I think I've been reduced to grunts and vague gestures. —Alorael, whose signal to noise ratio is 0. Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

I speak Austrlian-English natively. I took French at school (only because it was compulsory), but have forgotten it. Also, listening to Rammstein has taught me a couple of German words. -------------------- I'll put a Spring in your step. Posts: 2396 | Registered: Saturday, January 29 2005 08:00 |

For some odd reason, english isn't included there. any way: English Hebrew (going to do GCSE) French Italian (see Hebrew brackets) and I'm going to start learning Magyar(hungarian) in preparation to go to the Sziget music festival to see Franz Ferdinand and Radiohead and many other magically amazing artists.
