Maybe I should get one of the odd strings that cause IE to flip text and do other bad things. Or three null terminators. Or both!

—Alorael, who isn't sure how well the UBB would handle difficult things, and the possibility of causing massive and irreparable damage is very much greater than 0. Perhaps a space would be an adequate substitute for "".

Now I'm an Explorer. I'm so confused.

I propose a custom title for myself of "Corporate Drone." I won't get it, but somehow, it amuses me more than is proper.

Forget King of Kings. I want to see TM acquire "Holy of Holies." Which would be an especially luscious double entendre below his current PDN.

I think Alorael should just get something custom.

You sir, deserve a medal.

And Alorael's title needs to be witty, provacative, and have absolutely nothing to do with his character, as is the custom for all titles Drakey hands out.

I've only ever been able to discern the last trait on that list in his titles.

Nonsense! Drakey's titles have everything to do with the character of their recipients. The connections are unexplained, of course, but I don't find it that hard to see how most of them fit.

About the order of new titles...
quote:
2000 Guild Master
3000 Sage
4000 Royal Advisor
5000 Nobleman
7500 Hero of Exile
Technically, Royal Advisor is a much higher position than a regular Nobleman. I am not sure about Nobleman v. Sage, or Sage v. Guild Master (depends on position of mages in society), but Nobleman and Royal Advisor should probably be switched.

Why is Nobleman even on the list? The early E/A games don't even have them, and in A4, there seems to be very little to admire about most of the rich "Goody" characters.

How about some Nethergate flavor? I mean, who wouldn't want to be a Centurion or, better yet, a Power?

In terms of political influence a royal advisor is more than a nobleman but in terms of wealth/freedom this is not necessarily so. Although a royal advisor influences the king he/she has little direct influence over the public at large whereas a nobleman has direct influence over his fiefdom ad an ability to generate wealth and power independance of the king.

In fact, a particularly strong nobleman might have wealth, power and influence to rival a weak king - as a king only gets its power from the nobles who support him.

It's not directly relevant to me at the moment, but:

"Nobleman" inhales. It's vague: any actual noble titles -- duke, count, even obscure ones like margrave -- would all sound much cooler. It has no good link to any Spiderweb games. And it's not gender neutral.

I'm not too thrilled with Royal Advisor either. Sure, technically it might be a powerful post; but who aspires to be a mere advisor to the real power? What kind of impressive, high-ranking title is that?

Keeping the Exile/Avernum theme, what's actually better than a Sage, as something that might or might not be on your side, and commands respect either way? A Vengeful Shade!

You have to admit, 'Vengeful Shade' rocks.

Or a dragon.

Hmm. Dikiyoba prefers "Royal Guard" over "Royal Advisor". "Berserker" would be a fun title as well.

My titles are all carefully and meticulously selected to match people's character and personality. If you can't see it, you're not looking hard enough.

Berzerk is not a word. Neither is berzerker.

—Alorael, who would like to see some Wicker Man titles handed out. Show some love for Nethergate and certain argumentative tactics that are perennial favorites in Spiderweb debates.

This is true for a feudal system. However, the world of Exile/Avernum seems to be in the late stages of absolute monarchy, so I assume that Royal Advisor would be similar to a Privy Counsellor. Privy Counsellors were predesessors of modern ministers. Those people were high-ranked nobles, with additional powers. (In Russian Empire, "Privy Counsellor" was an actual title, one of the highest in Peter the Great's hierarchy.)
