It has to be Avernum? I guess BoA out of the misguided feeling that I might eventually accomplish something with it. -------------------- quote: Posts: 4114 | Registered: Monday, April 25 2005 07:00 |

A4 has got a better combat system. A2 still has the best plot of the series. A4 forces you into a linear plot with little choice in what you do next. Only in the Eastern Gallery and the Great Cave do you have many choices and even then the game forces you to do certain things in order if you want to do everything and not find that you have been pushed ahead in the plot. The only problem with the old combat system was deciding between lauching a damage attack first or wait to the end of the round to haste your side and slow your enemies. It was a bad flaw that the last one to spellcast set the speed. This no longer matters in A4 and you can no longer delay your turn. Also A4 allows you to move into a space where a team member has already moved and completed his actions. Posts: 4643 | Registered: Friday, February 10 2006 08:00 |

 ... die bad topic, die! Could one of the admins ammed the CoC to make posting these never ending "which spiderweb game is the best" topics a bannable offence? This is good discussion that actually belongs here (see description of the General forum), as opposed to stuff we just let slide (basically everything else). I miss the days of Sliths vs. Nephils, Which Archmage is the Strongest?, and News in Exile. -------------------- "At times discretion should be thrown aside, and with the foolish we should play the fool." - Menander ==== Drakefyre's Demesne - Happy Happy Joy Joy Encyclopedia Ermariana - Trapped in the Closet ==== You can take my Mac when you pry my cold, dead fingers off the mouse! It may be on topic for the forum, but saying it's a good topic doesn't make it so. I mean, so far there's only been one post of more than one paragraph in length. Still, we've seen far worse in the past. -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! Posts: 9973 | Registered: Saturday, March 30 2002 08:00 |

It would probably be a much better topic if we weren't so tired of these rate/choose your favorite topics. At least we don't have to be naked on a desert island for this one. Dikiyoba. Edit: Typo. Well, I'd recommend the Trilogy CD now that's out, if you are actually going to be purchasing a game. If it's just a question of which one os my favourite, it's more complicated. A4 has the combat, but A1 has atmosphere. A2 has plot in spades, but A3 let you go onto the surface and is bigger... Ohh, I'm gonna say A3. For a first time play, it IS pretty good. -------------------- And when you want to Live How do you start? Where do you go? Avernum 2 without a doubt. The plot is by far the best, and personally I prefer the old engine over the new A4/Geneforge engine. -------------------- "From now on you will call me Sid, Lord of the Flame!" Avernum 2 has the best plot, whithout doubt. But I like the huge Avernum 3 world (it's so big!). The major improvment between from A2 to A3 are the items, you now know what they do and the artefact are cool, nice to have a whole party with 6 AP, remind me of my Exile Characters :) . I have mixed feelings about Avernum 4. Posts: 70 | Registered: Thursday, February 16 2006 08:00 |
