I want to thank you for everything Nikki, for being my friend, talking to me on msn, helping me get over my problems. I know I'm not the nicest person, I know I've acted stupid lateley. But I want to say sorry to everyone, this time I'll change. I know its not valentines day yet, but Nikki, will you be my valentine? Posts: 275 | Registered: Sunday, January 8 2006 08:00 |

I'd love to, and I'm flattered, I really am. But, and I'm sorry, I already have a valentine Ed. And it isn't a guy. I'm sorry. You're a sweet guy and all, but... I'll level with ya, it's the "guy" bit that bothers me. Sorry... Well, thanks anyway SupaNik. I've never had a valentine before anyway, I don't know what made me think I'd get one this time. I'm just a lonley loner, on a lonley road, alone. Posts: 275 | Registered: Sunday, January 8 2006 08:00 |

I agree Valentines Day is over commercialized. I do still think it's a great holiday. When you're young you bring everyone in your class a valentine. When you're older you get to spend a day with a person you love. It's just a holiday that promotes love. Posts: 15 | Registered: Saturday, December 24 2005 08:00 |

At my school we have a "Valentine's Auction". It's a charity event where people can volunteer to auction a lunch date with them... in the school canteen. Just like any normal lunch except you have to pay lots more + you get confetti hearts sprinkled on the table. We used to get candles too but not anymore, too dangerous =/. quote:You say that as if it'll make Valentines' Day worth it. I can say from experience, it doesn't. In fact, I think it's a sign of a solid relationship when neither you nor your significant other feels the need to do anything differently on the 14th. I mean, why limit the love to one day a year? Honestly, I feel lucky. I'm in a loving, honest relationship where my girlfriend hates Valentines' Day as much as I do. :P It's irretrievably commercialized, meant to guilt-trip both genders into revitalizing their relationships for one day, after which they're more than happy to let them slide again. And let's not forget the average single person's perspective on the holiday... I think we can all remember feeling a bit left out of the festivities (regardless of whether or not we agreed with the principle of the holiday). Ephesos great point. I guess it's the principle of the holiday I like not the holiday itself. Posts: 15 | Registered: Saturday, December 24 2005 08:00 |

quote:Agreed. Originally, reading it made a little bit of me die inside. Confetti hearts really have just one serious application: kindling. karin, I personally hope you were never subjected to this. I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy. quote:Also agreed. Building a holiday around pretty much anything invites people to miss the point completely. It's not about the chocolate (though chocolate is good), it's not about the flowers, and it's not about the idiotic valentines. I don't like Valentines Day. I agree that it's over-commercialized. I'm also not too big on that sort of relationship. Fortunately, I am not likely to be asked by anyone that I know in real life to be their valentine as I am the adopted little sister of all of my friends. -------------------- Do not underestimate the power of the mechanical pencil. quote:Yeah... a girl in my class is trying to get the senior class to sponsor a "date auction" fund raiser in which people are chosen to go sit up on a stage and have people bid money for a date with them. I don't know which of these two scenarios is more lame. If this thing gets off the ground, though, I'm getting everyone who's willing to bid for members of the same sex. That makes "senior auction" look good. At least there's no dating involved and serving the buyer ends when school is out. Less potential for bad feelings, too. Dikiyoba agrees with Nicothodes. Except for the "little sister" part. Posts: 4346 | Registered: Friday, December 23 2005 08:00 |

Think of the kids! I'll have you know we raised £600 for charity. It's a very popular school event. Yes it's extremely lame and embarrasing. But in a way its funny. It's a popularity contest though, everyone wants to see who goes for the highest amount of £££. Usually the teachers get the highest bids. I've bid for a few kids in my time out of the goodness of my heart. Posts: 77 | Registered: Wednesday, February 1 2006 08:00 |

The bit that really worries me is how after EDF does the weird stalker thing, and SupaNik says "Uh... I'm straight...", is where Thralni goes "I'LL BE YOUR FRIEND!" -------------------- SupaNik: Aran, you're not big enough to threaten Ash. Dammit, even JV had to think twice. What, does homosexuality make weird internet over-friendliness all cool? Well, I agree with you that the topic is creepy and the over-friendliness is weird. Your second post however latches on to the quasi-gay part as "the bit that really worries me." Why did that bit worry you? Seems like it was just a spot to make a dumb gay joke at Thralni's expense. -------------------- Slarty vs. Desk • Desk vs. Slarty • Timeline of Ermarian • G4 Strategy Central Posts: 3560 | Registered: Wednesday, November 7 2001 08:00 |
