Hmmm....things are a little slow around here. What is your preference when it comes to music? I hope I tried to get the most popular ones, but I seem to be missing one that seems important. The only music I have a great interest in are the soundtracks to the LotR movies. Though before I got them, I did like classical music. -------------------- Rate My Scenarios! Just how many otakus do we have? No, never mind. I'm happier not knowing. —Alorael, who would like to fight the classical discrimination. If rock can be umpteen subcategories, why can't classical? The largest flaw in this poll is the absence of any time-based classifications. There really ought to be classic and modern options for at least the pop and rock categories, as both genres have undergone massive changes over the last forty years or so. I voted for pop, even though I absolutely despise most modern examples of the genre. The same goes for modern rock. In fact, I generally avoid anything recorded after around '79. Most everything from the eighties is egregiously horrible, and I find the music of the nineties and beyond to be deadly dull as a rule. I am a huge classic pop/rock devotee, with emphasis on the pop. Favorite bands/artists include the Beatles, most Beatles solo work, the Beach Boys, Buffalo Springfield, the Byrds, Chicago, Cream, Crosby Stills Nash and Young, the Hollies, the Kinks, Simon & Garfunkel, Steely Dan, Traffic, and the Zombies. I also enjoy quite a bit of sixties and seventies progressive rock, especially Gentle Giant, Genesis, Procol Harum, and Yes. I voted to for Reggae, Classical, Rock, and Pop. Some of my favorite reggae is Bob Marley. Rock and pop is the older music, namely from the 70's or 60's. -------------------- Nena Posts: 2032 | Registered: Wednesday, January 26 2005 08:00 |

Classical, and little beyond that. Go ahead, call me closed-minded. -------------------- The Encyclopaedia Ermariana <-- Now a Wiki! quote:OK, you're closed-minded. :P Edit: And I can't bring myself to leave it at that so I'll expound on my own preference. Most everything, save heavy metal. Jazz, swing, blues, rap, hip hop, and big band I can appreciate to a point but after ~4 songs of the genre, I need a 24 hour break. As long as I can sing along (or hum along as may be the case) I can go for just about anything. Despite my pretensions, my teenage angst will allow me to enjoy nothing but Alternative Rock. Try as I might, I just can't discern any emotion in anything else. That said, I like The Killers and The Mars Volta at present, as well as Rage Against the Machine and Metallica, in certain moods. Of the older stuff, I like Led Zeppelin, The Police, Jimi Hendrix, and The Clash, although the tendency, especially of people I don't like to begin with, to overrate The Clash to a ridiculous degree is almost enough to remove them from the list entirely, but they had good stuff. My biggest fanboy obsession, however, is with Audioslave and Soundgarden (nothing arouses my petulant ire more than Nirvana, Pearl Jam, or STP-worship, because, while they were decent enough grunge bands, Soundgarden was obviously the pinnacle of 90s grunge), because I think that Chris Cornell is the best vocal talent in rock since 1990. I think Nirvana easily annihilates Soundgarden. If I ever hear "Blackhole Sun" again, I will vomit blood out of my eye sockets - it was one of the most overplayed videos on MTV ever. Actually, I think PoD is right on that count. If I absolutely had to listen to any popular nineties band, it would be Soundgarden. Chris Cornell could actually sing, and well, unlike Cobain or Vedder. Black Hole Sun might be my favorite song out of the nineties, and although that's not saying much, it's still a fine song. -------------------- Stughalf "Delusion arises from anger. Ah, see, Soundgarden was before my time, so I didn't have to deal with overplaying or anything of the like. Conversely, Smells Like Teen Spirit is still overplayed. Black Hole Sun isn't a very good song; Black Days and Outshined are much better songs, and they actually got released on radio and such. Some of Soundgarden's best stuff never did. That said, I was mostly joking about the ire and all. I maintain, however, that Chris Cornell is 10 times the vocalist that Cobain was. BTW, AM, do you listen to DC101 or HFS? I see you're from this area. [ Wednesday, May 04, 2005 11:19: Message edited by: PoD person ] Posts: 293 | Registered: Saturday, May 29 2004 07:00 |

quote:HFS was great until it became "El Zol," which I think is a shame. It seems to me, though, that DC101 has stepped up the quality a bit in order to draw former HFS listeners. At least HFStival is still going strong (though I won't be able to go  , since my mom will be in town - I would have loved to see Billy Idol, Cold Play, and Foo Fighters!). AM, you know that HFS broadcasts on 105.7 now, right? The new antenna is in Baltimore, so you might not be able to pick it up, but it's back, at least on nights and weekends. I fully plan on attending the HFStival, as well as seeing The Killers when they come to town. Oh, and Micael, please never again use an acronym for Pirates of the Carribbean, let alone for the subtitle. While every-one is doing it... Linkin Park. Jay-z. Janes Addicion. Nirvana. Re Hot Chilli Peppers. Powderfinger. Grinspoon. Live. Guns 'n' Roses. They would be my favorite bands. EDIT: I just checked the results of the poll. Poor, poor tango...I should of replaced it with soundtracks.
