no problems here.

I wonder if someone at MS tries to hack it full time to find flaws. They should.

Accutally they have several professional hackers working at Microsoft try to find flaws and making sure other companys don't get to big IMAGE(Blaster worm!_files/biggrin.gif) .

How about you all stop flaming M$ and just get the patch and shut up instead? IMAGE(Blaster worm!_files/rolleyes.gif)

You know, there is one (a patch that is) that makes your PC completely safe from this virus, I downloaded it only yesterday. Btw, you should hurry up downloading, because I heard that the virus starts an automatic denial-of-service attack on the M$ site on Saturday, preventing people to download the patch after that.

Well, it is easier to code a nasty worm than it is to train oneself to be a st34lth ninja and assassinate him.

"it attacks every 16th of the month." --- wrong.
windowsupdate.com DDoS _begins_ if there is day =>16th of any month
OR in 1th day of all months except SEPT, NOV, OCT, DEC.

People don't like windows because, well, it sucks compared to Mac. And I am not one of thoes people that have only used one platform and complain about the other. I frequently use both.
I am glad to use a Mac for 2 reasons.
A - It is obviously better, not to mention windows wouldn't be as far as it was today if it wasn't for Macintosh inventing the technology and windows stealing it. IMAGE(Blaster worm!_files/biggrin.gif)
B - Very few viruses are written for Macs.

Basically, Macintosh is better than Microsoft because a) Macintosh is a slightly smaller evil corporation than Microsoft
b) Mac users have convinced themselves that they are the underdogs and therefore they are morally superior
c) Windows is more widely-used than Mac and many Mac users are convinced that they are better than the mass of humanity
d) Because typing GETAMAC requires one more letter than GETAPC and therefore Mac users are intellectuals.

To get back to the question of why less viruses are written for macs ...

I think it's because, as stated above, less people use macs. The people who choose to release their viruses into the public arena are doing so because they think it's fun to mess up as many computers as possible. They want maximum impact, hence they write their viruses to affect the system most widely used.

This virus is harmless once you get the patch that fixes the security hole. Unless you already have it, in which case you'd know, and you'd just have to delete the file msblaster.exe from the Windows\System32 folder.

The only people who'll be affected by this virus are those too lazy to download the patch. IMAGE(Blaster worm!_files/tongue.gif)

I'm just saying that because PC's ROOL!!! IMAGE(Blaster worm!_files/biggrin.gif) YAY LOL OMG WTF GETAPC!!1111 IMAGE(Blaster worm!_files/tongue.gif)

I don't get why people debate this. Smart people use linux. The rest of us use Macs/PCs. End of story.

Word.

If anything, the Macintosh operating system has historically been more vulnerable to viruses than Windows (at least the NT series). That's because prior to OS X, MacOS has been resolutely a single-user desktop operating system without a real security model. No, Multiple Users and Macintosh Manager don't count; both have more holes than Swiss cheese. Let's not forget unprotected memory.

On the other hand, the consumer series of Windows didn't bother to even consider security until XP. That's a pity.

On the other hand (what am I, a Jewish patriarch?), Richard Stallman once said that the very need for passwords and security on personal computers is indicative of "social collapse."

B - Very few viruses are written for Macs.

I'm a linux fan through and through though I use a mac, windows, linux, and SunSoftOS.

Let me says this. I good number of the technology Microsoft stole from Mac was first stolen by Mac from Xerox...poor bastards not only found a goldmine and let it go but then they did it about three more times...

As for the Mac vs Windows debate, I won't get involved although the Mac's G5 is the world's fastest PC.

The Blaster worm attacks Windows update probably to make room for a much more destructive virus. Although it's just as likely that it's just an attack on "Gates" if you will.

For those of you who think this worm caught MS with it's pants down, it didn't. It caught you guys with yoiur pants down. MS has had the security patch that fixes this up for months...

EDIT: Don't use Red Hat Linux! The only thing worse than someone who charges an insane amount of money for a product that should be free is someone who charges an insane amount and then claims it's for a really big book!

All this Mac vs PC talk is kinda silly IMHO. I doubt any of us will switch platforms unless we're either highly dissatisfied with what we're using or due to forces beyond our control (school computers, etc), or the lure of Open Source beckons you. It's like trying to convert someone to your religion, which is usually a futile task.

I'm a Mac user myself and just switched my work computer to OS X. It seems as though Apple has sacrificed a lot of the user-friendly features and tools for some whiz-bang appearance upgrade. I know Apple has always been known for their 'visual styling', but this sucks. I'll give it a week, if it still sucks, i'm going back to OS 9.
