As Imban's mentioned, there were actually several different community forums before the SW UBB; at least 5 by my count, one of which (The Lyceum) is still going strong.

Surely if those consequences can be minimised, then making people accountable for them is no longer necessary.

In the end, the raison d'etre of society is to minimise the harmful consequences of people's actions; thanks to social progress we can go on a walk alone without running the risk of being eaten by bears, we can inadvertently cut ourselves without running the risk of dying of an infection, and eventually we should aim to be able to have sex without running the risk of pregnancy. We've come reasonably close already, but there's plenty of room for improvement in contraceptive methods.

Unprotected sex can also lead to transmission of disease. Does that mean that if someone contracts syphilis it should be illegal to prescribe antibiotics for them?

Well, tough luck. You probably can't buy all the spells that are for sale in DwtD at their maximum levels either. There's such a thing as budgeting.

Having said that, the amount by which spells increase in cost with each level does get kinda ridiculous at some point, but that's a BoA issue, not a HLPM issue.

Okay then. If not in the moral sense, then in what sense "ought" the state to legislate in the public good? Setting aside the definition of the public good for now, how is saying that the state ought to legislate in the public good not a prescriptive moral statement?

It is not the purview of the State to decide moral issues, but rather to legislate on issues as relate to the public good.
Some would argue that morality and the public good are the same thing.

Depends on the amount of time that property is in your possession.

For illegally occupied land, the period before adverse possession kicks in is typically several years, depending on where you live. 9 months is a fair bit less than that. :P

Well, you know, you could have just looked up the first freaking result for "roguelike" on Google, which is a FAQ on roguelikes.

You've still failed to justify why you believe it's always wrong to kill human beings.

There's a walkthrough included in the release version of Bahssikava that gives relatively detailed help, including exact coordinates to push the mirrors to.

I don't think we're actually disagreeing; I'm sorry if I'm giving the wrong impression. All I'm saying is that theoretical physics is still pretty rough around the edges, and the fact that we can't find a consistent theory to explain every phenomenon is a serious problem. (For example, as far as I know, there's no single physical model or consistent set of physical models to satisfyingly explain every observed gamma-ray burst).

"Stolen property", now that's a heartless statement. No human being is "property" of another, so your analogy doesn't apply.
You missed my point. It's not the embryo that's stolen property, it's the woman's uterus, which the embryo happens to be making use of.

Actually, the energy you give to a ball by throwing it comes from the chemical potential energy in the muscles of your arm.

Still is radical, you mean. Regardless of laws, there's still slavery, and coercive labour practices that amount to the same thing, in every country. Indentured servitude is illegal in (for example) India and yet it's still widespread there.

I have to wonder why your mage *needs* to use encumbering armour. If he ever gets attacked in melee, he's most likely buggered with or without armour.

It's hard to look for errors when we don't know what we're looking for. It'd help if you uploaded your scenario somewhere so we can see what you might be doing wrong.

Also, you shouldn't use item number 499; the docs warn against it. Use a different item number.

What I find even more interesting is that no matter how fast the ball is thrown, the mass-energy locked up inside it will be many, many orders of magnitude higher than its kinetic energy, even though the latter is the only thing we normally observe.
