I was going to be an Awakened, since the shapers are reather controlling, but then I found out that the Awakened killed servant minds. So, I'm officially a loyalist. Felix: You may not have my apples. EVER. The big ppile of apples belongs to me. I've only seen the movie, but I've heard the books were good. The movie seemed too rushed and linear, in my opinion. I probably should read the books to get some sense of the plot, but I thought the movie was rather dull. -------------------- Apple.elqqA Posts: 18 | Registered: Monday, June 12 2006 07:00 |

That's odd. I'm positive I got the scenario from Spiderweb, and I never had a problem. Oh, well, it's irrelevant. -------------------- Apple.elqqA Posts: 18 | Registered: Monday, June 12 2006 07:00 |

quote:DIE[/QB]
Are you sure so severe a punishment is in order? You can't dislike the series that much. In a completly non-related matter, does anyone know when the third book is coming out? I have absolutly no idea what to put in my signature. The thought scares me. Just a green, wavy, horizontal line would work. -------------------- Apple.elqqA Posts: 18 | Registered: Monday, June 12 2006 07:00 |
Originally written by Ephesos: [QB]You can kill the rat, you know. Melee attacks just send a message that you can't talk in combat mode. I probably never used spells the many times I tried to kill that thing since my mage is third. *bangs head on computer* Sorry for wasting everyone's time with my useless post! EDIT: In responding to the next two posts, that's exactly what I did. I know what the attack button is, and I tried using it in combat mode. Sorry if I was unclear earlier. quote:Although the new lore concept is useful, my party calmed the first rat by the graves outside Fort Monestary. One rat stopped right in front of a nest, and has never moved. It's frustrating. Perhaps Nature Lore should allow you to control, not just calm, creature at high levels? That would be funny, but too much like Geneforge. I really want to move that rat though. Seeing GF creatures in Avernum would be hilarious. It would make no sense plotwise, unless some mage developed a interdimensional portal. However, it's not going to happen(at least I think so). The thought makes me laugh soo much, even though I'm just stating the obivious. -------------------- Apple.elqqA Posts: 18 | Registered: Monday, June 12 2006 07:00 |

You just need to get used to the new system :) . Although it is odd that you can train anywhere, the whole system doesn't make much sense if you really think about it.(I'm a year older! I think I'll improve my skills in mathematics! Or prehaps mechanics...) I like A4 the more I play it, although the Geneforge style threw me for a while, but it is actually different from both series. I can't comment on plot, though, since I only have the demo. One point I found interesting was using nature lore to make enemies non-hostile. I always imagined the PCs hiding in some cave while the goblins passed them. -------------------- Apple.elqqA Posts: 18 | Registered: Monday, June 12 2006 07:00 |

I appreciate your concern, Valcrist, but I tend to use whole words since I'm not used to boards/forums/posting. LOL is one of a few terms I do know. quote:I've been playing A4 a lot lately, and this keeps on happening to me in combat mode. I've died because my mage fired an arrow instead of casting bolt of fire on a cave slime. I'd try to click an the slime and end up clicking on my other characters instead. So..I know it's been mentioned in this thread, but I really miss the targeting system. :( -------------------- Apple.elqqA Posts: 18 | Registered: Monday, June 12 2006 07:00 |

quote:*bursts into laughter* As a type equal to the slith, nephil, and human, that would be very odd...I don't know haw a spider would wear armor, silly! :) (Or carry a poleaxe for that matter...) It could possibly cast spells like the areana, but one spider has been trying for several games. And how would people react to a giant, talking arachnid asking to go slay the nasty shade/giant/rat attacking their city? Personally, the idea would be hilarious, but wouldn't work well in gameplay. You can always add a GIFTS to the party in BoA if you really want to. FYI:(I'm not trying to be mean at all, just laughing at the different possibilities. If A5 does have a GIFTS PC, very slim being the chance,I'll be laughing for days and make an all-spider party. Just because.) -------------------- Apple.elqqA Posts: 18 | Registered: Monday, June 12 2006 07:00 |

I've gotten set_terrain to work in an outdoor script as part of a special encounter with dialog box choices, but it won't work in any of the other states. (It's very annoying too..) Posts: 18 | Registered: Monday, June 12 2006 07:00 |

If you see the shade before talking to Rosaline, you won't be able to ask her what she does, and therefore have her identify your items, since SDF(0,6) is used for both situations. This may be intentional, I don't know.. You might have meant to use (1,6) so that the ? only appears once. If I'm wrong, feel free to throw tomatoes at me. quote:I agree that this would be helpful, although I haven't had a problem with lighting myself... I was wondering if anyone had talked about adding another race of character? It would be more logical that all of the different races encountered could become adventurers, not just humans, sliths, and nephils. Having said this, I have an official disclaimer: I don't believe this needs to be done in any way, shape or form, but it is an interesting thought... -------------------- Apple.elqqA Posts: 18 | Registered: Monday, June 12 2006 07:00 |

The documentation is confusing, isn't it. If I was an old member who'd been here for years, I'd probably post a link to some site that explains it all perfectly. I'm pretty sure that you do need to use the set_flag call- the mem cells are only used to say which flag prevents the event, not which flag to set to 1-you'd need to write your own object script for that. I'm also sure that you don't need a special encounter. If I'm wrong, please tell me. :) -------------------- Apple.elqqA Posts: 18 | Registered: Monday, June 12 2006 07:00 |

If you use the original specobj script for the lever, memory cells 2 and 3 are the coordinates of a flag that, when set to 1, prevent the event from happening. So... set mem cell 2 =2 and mem cell 3 = 3 to prevent the lever from being used again. EDIT: flag (3,3) does seem to be unnecessary to this section of script. I've been getting a similar error: unhandled exception = c0000005 at address = 004399f0 but mine occurs when I enter a specific town, not when starting BoA. I don't know what the cause is, and it's recurring, so...how do you fix corrupted files? EDIT: I think I've figured it out. Oops. Hello People! I just want to know if anyone else didn't like A4 because it was so much like Geneforge. There is probably a reason behind this, but the reason I haven't played A4 in ages is that I don't like the gameplay style. I wish A5 would use the old Avernum modes instead of looking like Geneforge with Avernum plot. :( So sorry- just ignore me, I don't know what has/n't been said.
