quote:That sounds nice. I have to look if I can get Old Bay Seasonings over here|the land of chocolate, since it's not easily available in Europe for all I remember. To be honest, I had totally forgotten about its existence since my high school year in Canada. And that's a long time ago. Thanks for bringing back a fond(haha) memory. Old Spice should obviously only be used for marinades. -------------------- Always try to be true to yourself - unless you suck Posts: 183 | Registered: Sunday, March 19 2006 08:00 |

Curious. I would have thought halibut too fat a fish to be made into a 'fishstick'. I really love smoked halibut in a avocado-cucumber sushi roll (I know that's not Edo style, but it tastes mind-bogglingly delicious). What kind of batter did you use? -------------------- Always try to be true to yourself - unless you suck Posts: 183 | Registered: Sunday, March 19 2006 08:00 |

Too bad I've stumbled across this only now, when the fishsticks have become stale already (as a topic I mean). Otherwise I would have added this: Over here|in the land of chocolate we don't get any cod-fishsticks, since the Portugese catch them all and dry and salt them before tossing them back into the ocean. It's only after this that the English drag the sorry mess out of the ocean and batter it into their national dish number one. Therefore, no cod-fishsticks for the rest of us. We only get the Alaska pollock (or pollack) ones. This is what I would have shared with you. Too bad the topic has shifted again. -------------------- Always try to be true to yourself - unless you suck Posts: 183 | Registered: Sunday, March 19 2006 08:00 |

I've just read 'The Curious Incindent of the Dog in the Night-time' by Mark Haddon. I recommend this book to anybody who likes... uh... to read. Before that it was 'Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close' by Jonathan Safran Foer, an equally heart-breaking and heart-warming story. Also by the same author, the wonderful 'Everything is Illuminated', made into a fine movie with Frodo Baggins. Lovely. -------------------- Always try to be true to yourself - unless you suck Posts: 183 | Registered: Sunday, March 19 2006 08:00 |

Today life is good! A couple of weeks ago I was trying to explain to a friend what a great game Dark Castle was. Coincidence? DC was my first game on my first Mac (SE, 20MB(!) HD) way back in the late 80's. I'm absolutely thrilled. Thanks for bringing this to my attention, even though I still suck at the game. Marvellous. -------------------- Always try to be true to yourself - unless you suck Posts: 183 | Registered: Sunday, March 19 2006 08:00 |

Stupendously solemn remark, Alorael. edit: Considering how I've used irony in my past comments I like to stress that I mean this. edit2 (or pps): I like texting people when I'm not in the mood of talking to them, or anybody. This happens quite frequently which is why I like 'simsing' very much. It's less, or even non-committal. For what it's worth: Jeff has mentioned his post-current-franchise plans in this interview. While he doesn't reveal anything earth-shattering, it's still good to see that he is absolutely aware of what he does best. We're in good hands here, I think. -------------------- Always be true to yourself - unless you suck Posts: 183 | Registered: Sunday, March 19 2006 08:00 |

quote:It bothers me so much because it is contradicting what this sort of world view is about. Science (as in natural science) is not based on the belief in a supernatural power or agent. The means of proving things are much more sound and solid than just an opinion. It's not so much the difference between 'I believe in God' vs. 'I don't believe in God' but 'I see no reason/evidence/hint/indication for the existence of a god (or any god for that matter)'. To me that's not religion as it's not like atheists believe in a non-god. And, no, I don't believe in gravity either. I see it happen. I think the theory makes sense, as do the rather fitting pieces of evidence, which don't just seem to happen when we test for them. They happen, again and again. And they cause themselves to happen, again and again. I don't have faith in gas - I've cooked too much with it. I also don't believe in margerine. Does this make me a dairy-ist, or an a-margerinist, or just somebody who respects food? -------------------- Always be true to yourself - unless you suck Posts: 183 | Registered: Sunday, March 19 2006 08:00 |

quote:Oh dear. I don't hate 'them atheists' at all. It's just that I think applying a religious view of the world to people (like me) who don't have one is a bit odd. What specifically irks me is this: if you count atheism as a religion, you're infact defining my view of the world by what I don't have (namely faith), or what I don't believe in (namely some supernatural power and/or authority). By that rationale, you could also call me a non-milk-drinker after inquiring my favourite beverage. So, in all honesty, whether you believe atheism counts as a religion or not, doesn't change that. -------------------- Always be true to yourself - unless you suck Posts: 183 | Registered: Sunday, March 19 2006 08:00 |

I'd really like to point out that I find myself in disagreement concerning question 9. While I'm having a hard time finding arguments for agnosticism being a religion, I can sort of bend my mind around that one. Atheism clearly is no religion at all. Apart from that I enjoy these polls as much as I enjoy being surprised by what kind of people lurk behind their online identity. -------------------- Always be true to yourself - unless you suck Posts: 183 | Registered: Sunday, March 19 2006 08:00 |

quote:Sad as that may sound - yes. But it fits nicely with what he was doing last time, when he was telling everybody how wrong evolution is, luring us into Behe's dark realm. He would even have read us 'Of Pandas and Men' or some other ill-begotten piece of drool. Please, don't get me wrong. It's a good thing to try and debate with people who don't share your point of view. But with Stillness it seems to be a different case altogether. -------------------- Always be true to yourself - unless you suck Posts: 183 | Registered: Sunday, March 19 2006 08:00 |

Thuryl, yes, that's part of what I mean. Of course it's more polite to play the ball, as long as everybody's doing that. But if somebody starts cheating, gets caught doing so, is confronted with this fact, and still continues, it's time to call it off. That's not polite, it's futile. Staleness is probably laughing his butt off by now. PS: I almost laughed my butt off after reading this sentence: quote:That's funny stuff. :) [ Monday, December 17, 2007 12:57: Message edited by: Locmaar ] -------------------- Always be true to yourself - unless you suck Posts: 183 | Registered: Sunday, March 19 2006 08:00 |

quote:I understand very well what you are saying, even though I feel like you don't quite understand my point. First off: you can compare absolutely everything. If you don't compare apples to pears you won't find out the difference. I feel quite positive you know this already, but there's a reason why I'm bringing this up. Once you've stated these differences you can finish your comparism and come to a result. They are both fruit and grow on trees. They might taste different, but then again no breed of apple tastes quite like another, nor does any kind of pear. Eventually you have to reach a conclusion, right? Now after your conclusion (fruit, eadible, trees, taste) somebody (who's had an apple once that made him ill) says: "Wait! You're wrong. You can't compare them because they are different. Apples are no fruit. Just because they grow on trees and taste like something, they are completely different and can't be treated the same. Pears, on the other hand, are fruit, so let's stick to that." I don't know many people who would subscribe to this point of view, and I still don't know if this illustrates what I'm trying to get at any better. I don't think Stillness meant to compare these two. It has been pointed out to him way too often that his arguments don't make sense, and why. The only reason I can see is that he just doesn't like apples. So you're right with your summary of what Stillness said, but not with what he was trying to get at, I think. That's what I was trying to point out. -------------------- Always be true to yourself - unless you suck Posts: 183 | Registered: Sunday, March 19 2006 08:00 |

quote:Even when I didn't? I thought I had explained that in my follow-up. quote:This is the logic I was referring to. Obviously a lot of us didn't actually get what Stillness was getting at. I think your explanation of what you think he was trying to get at sounds nice, but I don't share your assessment. If I have insulted you in any way by making the impression I thought you and Stillness were arguing the same case, then I apologize. I'm not that mean. quote:What is not? I never said he was. But it's the basis for him getting started in this discussion. From there he was trying to argue, which is why: 1.) he broke his chain of reasoning by his own terms every now and again and 2.) he didn't make sense some of the time. I ask you now: What's so difficult to understand about this? -------------------- Always be true to yourself - unless you suck Posts: 183 | Registered: Sunday, March 19 2006 08:00 |

I know what you were trying to do and that is what I was referring to: your explanation of Stillness' reasoning. If you think I'm confusing your explanation of his reasoning with your own thoughts and opinions, then you clearly misunderstood me as much as you misunderstood Stillness' ambition. quote:It isn't for you, nor most other people on the board, but for Stillness it is. That's my point. Edit: As regards to my being obtuse (better: now being really obtuse): Alec at least had the courtesy of explaining to Safey why he is an idiot. What's your story?
