inducting women into the horrors that we once relegated largely to the soulless roles for men
Just because you have some peculiar hatred of science doesn't mean that scientists share your view. Not even female ones.

As for science being a male-biased enterprise, although like too many things it has historically been male-dominated, it may surprise you to hear that women are also capable of rational thought, and the female scientists I know would be insulted at the suggestion that they're "pretending to be men".

Running it in the debugger sounds like your best bet, but if it's not even getting that far, I'm not sure what you can do.

Using darcs to record your changes:
"darcs record *.c *.h" will make it ask about your changes one by one. The changes you say yes to will be recorded into a patch. (If you don't specify the *.c *.h, then it'll ask about changes in the .xcode part, which are generally pointless)

To get the patch to me, do "darcs send -o somefilename", say yes when it asks about your patch, then email me somefilename as an attachment.

(darcs send with no arguments will try to email it, but gmail rejects emails from random people's computers).

The colons are to back out of directories. It starts by looking in the same directory as the executable file, but since that's "Blades of Exile.app/Contents/MacOS/", inside the bundle, it's kind of an inconvenient place to put them, so it's easier to go out and look in the same directory as the bundle.

Although I'm not currently actively doing anything with BoE, I'll probably have spurts of interest in it in the future, and in the meantime if you have patches to offer I'll probably accept them into the version I'm hosting.

I'd guess that the resource files are being mangled/not found/something.

You can get the resources here: http://khoth.ath.cx/~khoth/Resources.zip
If you put them in the directory the program is made in (build/{Debug,Release}/), then it might work.

It's probably worth redownloading, in case it got corrupted, and also trying to mount a different dmg, to see if it's a problem with your computer or this specific image.

Possibly not unique enough, but Cthulhu-mythos games tend to have spellcasting cost sanity, which acts kind of like HP for the mind.

Quantum computers aren't much like nondeterministic turing machines. For a start, they probably can't solve NP-complete problems in polynomial time. The conception of a quantum computer trying every possibility and picking out the right answer is more about bad science journalism than reality.

I'm not sure what nondeterministic turing machines are used for, but if you go down a level or two, nondeterministic finite state automata are useful for thinking about regular expressions. I imagine that nondeterministic turing machines are useful for similar things, where you're looking to see if a solution exists, but don't want your analysis to be bogged down with details about backtracking and search order and whatnot.

If we can never die in an absolute sense, swift nuclear armageddon is likely to be the best long-term solution to our problems. Unlike most other proposals for world peace, it doesn't need cooperation from everyone, and it's easily achievable with our current resources.

All you need is a sufficiently flexible programming language:
Prelude> let 2 + 2 = 5
Prelude> (3 - 1) + (6 / 3)
5
