So, rather than scattering fire and producing more of the little buggers, the slith priest, with his Radiant Spear should just stand and chop away, while the mage blesses and the other two only pick off the very weakest, who will go down with one shot? Otherwise they should just what - Defend?

I'll try it. (I left the Concealed Tunnel, in the hope of finding more useful gear, e.g., Demonslayer, or some more EXP and when I got back, the whole thing had reset! Grrr!)

Cool, thanks. I've been going for the healthy guys, rather than wiping out the weaklings, but your tactic makes loads of sense.

I didn't kill him first time round, as my party were in pretty bad shape after Elhioc, etc.

Do I get another chance to get into his castle, waste him and go treasure-hunting?

Do I have to destroy the Troll-Giant Barrier first?

I can't seem to dish out enough HP to seriously stop him before he multiplies beyond control. My party's all mid-20s Level, with quite good weapons and bow skills. My mage stands back and Hastes and War Blesses, my priest is a good pole fighter (Radiant Slith Spear) so he alternately wallops and Heals Party and I have two reasonable archers, one of whom has an Alien Waveblade for up close and personal.

Am I missing an essential item or is their a foolproof tactic, please?

Sorry, guys, I don't quite follow.
If you set the Gold in Editor to zero, what happens to the actual Gold you've already earned/stolen?
Or do you simply open the Editor and boost your balance occasionally?

OK, thanks. Rache's site lists healers under stores. (Sort of Avernum Yellow Pages. :D )

I've got about 12 grand, currently, and am still carting stuff out of the Troglo Altar cave to sell in Southport.

How much money is it necessary to acquire? I know some levels of knowledge, e.g. Magery, are really costly, but are they essential to getting through Avernum 3?

It's a bit time-consuming, being a scrap-metal dealer, but if it's essential, I'll press on. :D

My guys and gals were clearing out the Troglodyte Altar, when my mage bit the dust, after he'd done the Purification Ritual.
Mousing around for loot, they stumbled across a couple of secret rooms. Without the mage, they had to fight in the dark, but managed it until they'd Purified the second altar. (Luckily, the priest seemed able to do it.)
They then stumbled into a small dark room full of sliths and a demon (I think). The archer died in here, but the 'tank' and the priest, with lots of heroic brew and invulnerability elixir cleaned house.
I then hightailed it all the way back to Fort Emergence, via Sharimik and Farport/Jewel of Recall to get the dead raised (no Balm of Life). Is there a healer nearer Sharimik than this?

Up yours, Ferox! I thought Corpus Stalker made an amusing post and on-topic.

Why start a new thread, just to keep you happy? Are you paying for bandwidth?

May I suggest you read Corpus Stalker's tagline. The one about 'diplomacy'... :D

I want to send a copy of .sav file from this machine (a PC) to my other computer (a Mac).

I tried last night, but when I opened Avernum on the Mac, the .sav file was greyed out and would not open.

I am running the demo version on this machine and a registered version on the Mac.

Can I do it? If so, what do I have to do, please?

Cursed? Find a top-notch healer (the Anama guy on Bigail can do it).

Just toss the Uranium. I dumped it in Levy's office.

Skribbane? Never touch the stuff. Character Editor'll fix that little problem. :D

But when I captured Erika's Ur-Basilisk, it quite happily froze the original. SO, I guess they're just a bit unreliable.

One other thing I noticed was that the Ur-Basilisk was copied onto the Drake's slot in the Simulacrum, thereby replacing it. Is that normal?

Well, I returned to Ghikra and bought them again for my Mage.

To test them, I captured the drake in the monster room in the Tower of the Magi and Summoned it to fight the original. It sat outside the cell where the action was taking place and vanished after a couple of rounds - actually, when I hit E to finish the fight.

How do you actually get these things to fight for you? (I've noticed Beastcall and similar Summons don't seem to bring much extra muscle in on your side. Are they just extra targets for the opposition?)

I thought it was an amulet, which helped her keep an eye on you and, allegedly, lets her help you at a distance. Dunno how nor when, tho'.

I've taken off everything except pants and robe and the spells are still greyed out in the list and don't show when I press 'M'.

I'd better check that I actually learnt them!

Quick update:
Drat! I checked and found I actually had one of my fighters learn them, by mistook. Any way I can switch them to my mage? Or can I go back to Ghikra and buy them again for a different PC?

Or should I not even bother? From the other thread, it doesn't seem to be that useful a weapon.

He's Level 10, Mage Spells 9, he's wearing a Fine Leather Helmet, Robe of Magery, Pants, Boots, Gloves, Cloak, Shield Ring and Lucky Charm - weight 28. His Inventory weighs 16, so his total weight is, er... 44! :D (out of 110).

His red bar - Spell Points - is at 60 (is that what you mean by 'Mana'?). When he tried to use the spell on the Alien Slime, it was at about 40.

Any ideas? (Thanks in advance, btw.)

I got Capture Soul and Simulacrum in Ghikra, when I was given the Soul Crystal as a reward. My Mage is Level 9, but the two spells are greyed out - even in combat. I thought I'd capture the Alien Slime, but had to kill it instead.

What have I missed?

I've started a second game, with an all-human party and have just killed off the slime plague. When I returned to Fort E. and spoke to Berra, I also had a little chat with the lady in charge of the research centre (forgot her name), where Berra studies. In the course of conversation, she said my party could learn a few spells if we found the secret room (look at the Automap and wallcreep :D ), as she'd teach us the secret hand moves to dispel the barrier.

You get Move Mountains 2 and Light 3, once you find the room.

Hope this helps someone - sorry if everyone already knew it. ;)

The excellent Relle's Walkthrough frequently talks about Hasting and Blessing the entire party. I have yet to acquire a spell able to do this. One at a time, only, it seems. Is there a way of giving everyone an extra go?

PS Does swigging a Haste potion have the same effect as being Hasted?

Thanks in advance.
