No, you're not alone, Bobo... I got the same 'feeling' about it. But it comes from being used to playing one game with a natural progression of level and difficulty along with better and better items. (And having to 'fight' for what you get - not having it 'given' to you) Still, I can see the necessity of having the HLPM for BoA - since the difficulty and level of the user-created scenarios is rather random, and it eliminates the need to save a bunch of different level parties for playing scenarios. Maybe you're just one of those people who feels guilty about having things 'given' to you, without having had to 'work' for them. ;) -------------------- You are standing at the end of a road before a small brick building. Same problem with the initial door (Windows XP), getting a bad script header message or somesuch...Looked at the door.txt file, first line as follows: door.txt ? ½?¹½?)è mBIN ??ÉÒ // door.txt Deleted everything before the //, and everything after the }break; at the bottom of the file (just to be safe). Several other files had the same problem, with a similar fix. Not sure what caused it, maybe some download/zip glitch... But I'm well into the game with no error messages... -------------------- You are standing at the end of a road before a small brick building. Around you is a forest. Kelandon: Wouldn't that be playing with fire? Thuryl quote:Certainly hope this is just a joke of sorts. There are too many failed wanna-be scientists/writers populating the educational systems as it is. Spend some time actually working at a real job, accomplishing 'something', and then go teach youngsters. Adds credibility, and maybe a little perspective on what's important. -------------------- You are standing at the end of a road before a small brick building. Around you is a forest. Maybe some would think it cheap or cheating, but using a summoned Ur-Basilisk worked nicely. -------------------- You are standing at the end of a road before a small brick building. All of this basically boils down to: A) Some people like to *****, no matter what. B) Some people like what they have. Standard Disclaimer: Not getting into the nitty-gritty of who did what when, just be happy you have what you have. Cripers. -------------------- You are standing at the end of a road before a small brick building. Around you is a forest. A small stream flows out of the building and down a gully. Regardless of the battle/puzzle, what tends to draw me in most often are little acts of altruism, like retrieving the unicorn horn in Khazakai Run, or freeing the dragon in VODT. Even though these actions are rewarded, I could envision a subplot that would have only the reward of having done a good deed... (though there's also the potential for a 'no-good-deed goes unpunished' twist somewhere, too) -------------------- You are standing at the end of a road before a small brick building. A good plot is important, something that doesn't reveal itself too readily... puzzles requiring some mental effort and problem solving are important, too.... Other than that, interesting artifacts are fun to find, but not in overabundance. I like the idea of killing off a whole village/city, only because I did that in A3 with one of the towns whenever it decided I was an enemy... but there was no after-story, so it was an empty action. There might be a way to include that idea and make it the 'honorable' thing to do. -------------------- You are standing at the end of a road before a small brick building. Around you is a forest. An Ur-Basilisk was the only creature I ever thought of as necessary, only because they dispose of Doom-Guards rather neatly. -------------------- You are standing at the end of a road before a small brick building. Gee, who knew that Rentar-Ihrno was such a sacred Cow? My thought was spin-off more than sequel, with no notion of a full-blown Avernum type adventure... didn't realize this was a 'first effort'. Why is it when I hear the name Rent-a-rino, I think Tom Bombadil, and mindless rhyming song? -------------------- You are standing at the end of a road before a small brick building. Thanks (I think?). I can understand dislike for that character, but it is a piece of 'unfinished' business. It only occurred to me because the idea lends itself to being somehow connected, but not really. FYI. I've lurked unseen around here for a while, since I started playing. That's why I avoided any kind of 'fantasy' name :D -------------------- You are standing at the end of a road before a small brick building. Around you is a forest. Or in keeping with the idea of a sequel: Sometime later, the AV3 adventurers have died a natural death. But instead of their just rewards in Adventurer-Heaven, Rentar-Ino (?) has hijacked them in Soul-Crystals, for revenge (torture?). The quest would be to liberate their souls. Could be a relatively small and simple adventure, or morph into a large complex thing. -------------------- You are standing at the end of a road before a small brick building.
