Off topic, I know, but am I the only one, or are there other fans of Lord Maynard out there? I think it was rather shrewd of him to strike that deal with Vahkohs. Nobody knew exactly where the thieves and such were disappearing to, but everyone had vague, disquieting feelings about what would happen if they were to become troublemakers. That's a hell of an incentive to stay clean and cooperative.

Yeah, I'm blind too... I spent about 20 minutes looking for the kegs and crates. They're actually on the main toolbar (with the pencil and paintbrushes and things). Row 5, column 4.

Thanks! I managed to find the stupid tome and get the puzzle done before edit 3 there. It was really frustrating though, since my short term memory is shot and I hate writing stuff down.

The master pike has more sentimental value.
The shopkeep had to up the price so he could bear the pain of parting with it.

Is it me... Or do the original classes. Archer, Rogue, in Blades of Avernum

I had far too much time on my hands, apparently, because I came up with this list of starting classes and how many extra skill points you get with them compared to a custom character. Correct me if I'm wrong about anything.

Cleric 11
Soldier 7
Archer 10
Berserker 8
Rebel 9
Sorcerer 10
Shaman 8
H. Wizard 13

Some of these are a great deal if you plan on getting all the skills anyway...

Hey, you've almost got that if you care to invest in fast on feet, quick hit, parry, and then equip the vampiress dress. I just love the image of my strapping cat warrior whirling around in an evening gown.

Good points, all. I guess priests just aren't my style (except for the indispensible repel spirit of course, I forgot about that one).

For good old-fashioned fantasy you can't beat the Arabian Nights (I like the newer Haddawy translation) or the Brothers Grimm.

Note: -Edited away-

Also, if you're willing to be an exploiter, you can get the special skills by saving up loads of skill points (maybe have some real characters baby-sit the exploiter), and then goosing the requisite skills up to the required levels, buying the special skill(s), and then lowering the requisite skills to a desired level. Voila - a helpful return without all the investment. You can get resistance and magical efficiency into balanced level 25 characters this way. Cheap? Yes. But then no one ever falsely accused me of being cheap.
