That proof that nobody ever did or will lies in you posting that. Sorry to disappoint you...

Don't worry, I'll just dedicate my life to keeping others from ever going through the same trauma I did! Or I'll sit on my couch eating chips.

I'm not sure which would be more fulfilling.

Thats the second time in the past few minutes When in the course of Nathan Ashby. If I did not know better, I would say you were out to get me or something.

On topic though, I have always wondered what could have deleted members. My personal theory was that Alorael was sniping people again and erasing proof of their existence.

EDIT: Spelling mistake.

The news of TM being banned has made my day all the better.

Actually, I don't really hate him. He's just a little overbearing and egotistical. After a while, everyone gets used to it.

Awwww ... you invented that, right? Do you know, you funny turnip, that I searched now about 10 minutes after JV's related post? Being a journalist I'm used to see a quote as a quote, not as a fiction. Oh well >_<

As has already been stated, Jeff did in fact say this. The "..." in my quote is to signify that there was more to it that I did not see as important to the point I was making. Thus, it was removed. If there is a better way to show that, please tell me.

Yes, I am a funny turnip. But keep that secret.

I always seem to miss the interesting things that go on here. Poor Ash, I don't think he should have been banned. But thats all I'm going to say on it. Well, throw in my name and sig too.

EDIT: I managed to fix the the body problem as well as the town script error, but I still can't figure out what's wrong with the creature script. If it is referring to the basicnpc.txt, I have not tampered with it.

I believe this warrants a post of its own.

Following the help file Jeff included to get people familiar with the editor, I created a dungeon called "Icky Dungeon". I included a character that I intend to talk with the party, but as luck would have it, my dialog scripts are not working right. Or maybe I just stink at scripting.

As I enter "Icky Dungeon", I get hit with this:

ERROR: Tried to call a non-existant town script state.

ickydlg Error: No body declared..

And if memory serves:

Error: Tried to call a non-existant creature script state.

I don't really know what I'm doing wrong, I copied another town and dialog script so I could use it myself, and put down what information I beleive I needed into the blanks.

icky.txt

// TOWN SCRIPT
// Town 1: Icky Dungeon

// This is the special encounter script for this town.
// The states INIT_STATE, EXIT_STATE, and START_STATE have
// meanings that are described in the documenation. States you write
// yourself should be numbered from 10-100.

begintownscript;

variables;

int i,j,k,choice;

body;

beginstate INIT_STATE;
// This state called whenever this town is entered.
enable_add_chars(1);

set_crime_tolerance(2);
break;

beginstate EXIT_STATE;
// Always called when the town is left.
break;

beginstate START_STATE;
// This state is called every turn the party is in this town.

break;
I really did not change it after I copied it, I did not think I had to.

ickydlg.txt

// TOWN DIALOGUE SCRIPT
// Town 1: Icky Dungeon

// This is the dialogue for this town.
// You can use states numbered from 1 to 99.

begintalkscript;

variables;

int i,j,k,r1,choice;

begintalknode 1;
state = 1;
personality = 27;
nextstate = 1;
condition = 1;
question = "Who are you?";
text1 = "This man seems as old as time.";
text2 = "_I am John._";
text5 = " _Is there anything this old man can do to help you?_";
action = INTRO;

begintalknode 2;
state = 1;
personality = 27;
nextstate = 1;
condition = 1;
question = "How old are you?";
text1 = " _Too old._";
Some dialog text was removed to keep my post size down, but all the important stuff is there.

I'm trying to play around again with the editor, and see if I can't at least set up a simple dungeon and town. But I am having a problem (actually a few), with the scripting.

My first question is: Is the editor itself suppossed to create a dialogue script when you place a character with it's memory cell set to 3? Or am I supposed to make one from scratch?

I followed Jeff's editor help file and (unless I missed something), it doesn't really say.

I am having a problem with the scenario as well, a possible bug I suppose.

After finding the body of Polonius in that small village, I walk out of the warehouse and talk to the sergeant. After that I get whacked on the head and my game crashes and I have to start over from my last save.

No one else seems to have this problem, could it possibly be due to playing with a singleton?

EDIT: Slight typo.

Dang.......

Another.

-

Five hundred begins it,
Five hundred ends it,
Five in the middle is seen,
First of all figures,
The first of all letters,
Take up their stations between,
Join all together
and you will bring,
Before you the name of an eminant king.

-

By the way, answers don't count if you can't explain them.

EDIT: Small typo.

I don't think Spiderweb has ever had any kind of brain teaser topic before, at the very least not that I have noticed. Any way, let's see who can figure this one out. (It's rather simple, but I have better ones to pull out later.)

-

A man decided to go out to eat one nite, at a rather fine resturant. As he left the resturant, he was stopped by his waiter asking for him to pay his bill. The man gave his waiter a slip of paper that read,

"1004180"

After thinking for a moment, the waiter allowed him to leave.

How is this possible?

Who created Ermarian then and what caused it to be the accepted name of the Avernum/Empire world? Did a few Exile veterans get together and, by means of forces non-veterans will never understand, come up the name?

Thats a cool name, was it ever mentioned in the Avernum games or is that something Jeff has said before? Or for all I know it could have been in the Exile games.

Like the planet we live on is Earth. What exactly do the people of the Empire and Avernum call their planet, or do we not really know?

Interesting, after talking to "God" several different times, he began to repeat a "title" I said to him the first time we talked. I know it can't be the computer since I made it up.

Strange......

I'm in 10th grade english, but don't worry, reading is what I do most of my free time. I'm a fast reader, so length is not a problem (the book must be at least 200 pages.) I enjoy many types of books, though mystery is what I really enjoy.

To clarify the time period, the book itself must have been published during the period of 1835-1950. Again, my teacher is might go a little bit before that, but I need other ideas just to be sure.

*I made a mistake in my first post, its 1835-1950, not 1882-1950. Sorry.*

For a class reading project I must choose a book from the time period of 1835 to 1950 to read. I have Notre-Dame De Paris (The Hunchback of Notre-Dame), but this book is before even this time period, though my teacher said he might still accept it.

To make a long story short, I need other ideas for books in case he does not accept the one I have. Any good ideas from the good people of Spiderweb boards? (I enjoy many types of books, so any ideas are welcome.)

P.S. No Tolkien, or however his name is spelled.

EDIT: 1835-1950
