For once in my life, I'm actually going somewhere this summer. I'm going to Chicago for work in two weeks (but it'll be like a vacation), and then, two weeks after that, I'm going to visit my girlfriend who is doing research in Indiana. -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. The Louvre (which you can find in the links at my site, which is in my sig) has some PC graphics. Not many, and not very good, but enough to be interesting. Some scenarios (such as the Mac version of LP) sneakily force PC graphics. -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. Swearing is usually only good in extreme circumstances or when it's really, really funny. My LSAT trainer, the illustrious James Murphy, rarely swore, but when he did, it was amazing. I leaned over to my good friend in the training and said that there was something about the way that he swore, and she replied, "Yeah, it's sexy." If he had sworn more often, though, it would've lost its effect, and I think that is generally true with most swearing. -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. It is still true, I think, that none of Jeff's other games is anywhere near as large as E/A3. If you liked E/A3, you'll probably like the other Exile or Avernum games, and it's worth giving Geneforge a shot, maybe with GF1 (still probably has the most immersive-world feel that an E/A3 had) or GF4 (generally considered the finest game in the series). -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. Oh, hey, speaking of the font being different, could we now fix the Mac-Windows font size difference issue? A few scenarios created by Windows designers have text that over-runs the screen on a Mac because of the size difference, and it seems like that would be an easy problem to fix now. Um, unless someone already fixed it while I wasn't looking. -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. Video Game Addiction in General | |

By any reasonable definition, any mental disorder interferes with your daily life and prevents you from doing things that you want to do (or would want to do, without the addiction, which is a grayer area). I suppose, then, it is possible to be addicted to video games, but the real test of that addiction is not how much time one spends on them, but how much it interferes with one's ability to function in life, which is a very hard thing to measure without inserting the measurer's own values, which may conflict with the player's. In other words, while I suppose a few real diagnoses of this are possible, I think that too many cases of gray area exist for this to be a useful category most of the time. -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. I kept a fighter near the pylon to prevent it from insta-healing itself and threw a bunch of ranged attacks from just outside its range and just inside mine. This worked fine (but took forever). -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. Smoo: Get ready to face the walls! Well, it is possible to destroy them one at a time. This is what I did. Stand in range of only one pylon at a time and focus on just that one. Then heal and proceed to the next. For the less OCD, you can sneak through. If you're just out of range, the pylons won't shoot at you, and it is possible to use combat mode to end up just out of range in each turn. At one point, we observed that the consistent problem in Richard White's games is designing so as to require heavy artificial intelligence but supplying only mediocre artificial intelligence. As a contrast, Jeff's AIs are not great, but his games are not designed to require great AIs, and the AI that he makes is functional within the context of his games. RW never quite managed that (except, come to think of it, in Rock Solid, which I still think may be his best game). -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. That post didn't make sense. The first line isn't a sentence (or a coherent thought), and there's no reason that I can see to lock this thread. Please stop posting things that don't make sense or don't need to be said. I don't mean to be harsh, but try a little harder. I think you can get the hang of this. -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. Smoo: Get ready to face the walls! Emphasis on the "Um." ADoS was last seen yesterday, and his other recent escapades can be found here. EDIT: Ew. Does ADoS's recent posts page have a strange appearance to others, too, or is it just me right now? Um, I don't think there's actually anything wrong with this thread, for the record. Opinions may vary on Worf the Cat, but as far as I know, it's well within the bounds of General to post occasional links to members' activities (as long as they're not excessive, which this doesn't seem to be). I think that Worf is entertaining, if not exactly the funniest thing I've ever seen, so good job, Sarasaphilia. -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. Zeviz: Eh... while #2 is, strictly speaking, true, it is rather misleading. #3 is also true, but misleading. What one can do and what it is practical for one to do are two entirely different things. My local public school could have only given me about two years of high school — two bad years of high school — before it would have had to send me somewhere else (probably junior college) due to a lack of classes. I couldn't really go there. My parents could've moved, but that wasn't practical for various reasons. Are you trying to say that families having two incomes increases demand for university educations? If so, please explain (as I've been asking for a while) how.
