Those are Walker White's modifications, by the way. I was just the one who posted the scripts on the Codex, because WW was gone by that point.

I'm guessing that the reason that the monster is changing targets is the who_hit_me part of the targeting state. Find this code in the script and delete it:

// Have I been hit by nearby living creature? Strike back!
if (who_hit_me() >= 0) {
if (dist_to_char(who_hit_me()) <= 2 &&
char_ok(who_hit_me()) == TRUE) {
set_target(ME,who_hit_me());
set_state_continue(3);
}
}

Hmm. I am not opposed to any of that (except perhaps the dialogue change — Nethergate's dialogue system had a certain charm, but I guess I can just play BoE to my heart's content in that regard).

I'd pay $10 for it, I think.

One might then create a special ability to train in special skills and suck skill points in exchange for increasing that SDF. It's not that hard, but no one has done it yet, as far as I know.

People design combat differently in Blades than Jeff did in the AT. I never used an archer in the AT, but I've used one often in BoA, because people are trying to make combat harder, and one way to do that is to eliminate melee by putting a character farther away.

Chaotic Good Half-Elf Bard.

I'd more likely envision myself as a Neutral Good Half-Elf Paladin, which was fairly near.

The best way to learn how scripts work is to read briefly through the docs and then read through a released scenario's scripts while referring frequently to the docs. Then experiment a lot making your own scripts.

Copy and paste from functional scripts often. I've never made anything from scratch.

How did you first find avernum? Looking for Mac games that I could play for free on the Internet.
What game did you first play? Avernum 1.
Why did you play it? It was the only Avernum out at that point.
What is your favorite game? In the AT, probably A2. Among Avernum games overall, probably BoA. Among all games in general, gee, that's a tough one.

I can't swear to having seen a definitive statement of a rule, but I know that I've never seen a dollar sign come after a number or a cent sign come before except in the writing of the same sort of people who mess up "it's" and "its."

Huh. The OED says that Aldus Manutius actually is the reason that slanted type is called "italics."

"Applied to the species of printing type introduced by Aldus Manutius of Venice, in which the letters, instead of being erect as in Roman, slope towards the right; first used in an edition of Virgil, published in 1501 and dedicated to Italy. In early use also Italica (sc. littera)."

"Its" called being illiterate.

Probably lost in one of the purges. Not all the stuff from PPP2 is archived online yet.

Did she ask for it on General or something? BoA and BoAE haven't ever been purged.

Huh. I'm not sure that this distinction matters terribly much, because those two calls will still always return errors when used as arguments for other calls, as far as I know. Even if the errors are different, they're still errors, and the difference can't be used to do anything.

But then, there may be some importance to this that I can't see right away.

Even a better way to look at BoA scenarios would be appreciated, and, as I've been saying all along, the most important thing that you can do is release something, so yeah, I think that a preliminary release would not be a bad idea.
