Ben: I believe that has been proposed, but there are a few little problems. 1) The cost. Sending things into orbit is hard enough. Escaping the Earth's gravity entirely is even more fuel intensive. To send all of our nuclear waste into the sun would, at this time and at any time in the near future, be prohibitively expensive. 2) Safety. What if we had an explosion at launch, think of the damage that would be done. *i would know more than I do about how securely contained nuclear waste is, but launch pad explosions are incredibly powerful. The more safety features you put to secure the waste from leakage in the event of the disaster, the larger payload you will have to send up. -------------------- "As our circle of knowledge expands, so does the circumference of darkness surrounding it." --Albert Einstein -------------------- Posts: 536 | Registered: Sunday, September 7 2003 07:00 |

I've thought about that, sort of like approaching a black hole. Time slows down, such that from your point of reference, you never reach it. It's a strange idea of immortality, but an interesting one. -------------------- "As our circle of knowledge expands, so does the circumference of darkness surrounding it." --Albert Einstein -------------------- Posts: 536 | Registered: Sunday, September 7 2003 07:00 |

On Mister Fox's myspace page it says: quote:To me this suggests some sort of physical desire for animals. I am not saying that Mister Fox practices beastiality, I am merely saying that (as I read it) he is interested in doing so. He is sexually attracted to animals. What I wrote was merely a warning that, should he act on these desires, he could get in trouble with the law. Mister Fox asked for our opinions. I gave mine. Deal with it. -------------------- "As our circle of knowledge expands, so does the circumference of darkness surrounding it." --Albert Einstein -------------------- Posts: 536 | Registered: Sunday, September 7 2003 07:00 |

quote:Ouch! Grant me clemency. It was 6:05 in the morning when I posted that, and I have been awake since around 9:00 the previous morning. I assure you, nothing I say on these boards can make me feel half as stupid as the Calc II final I just took. By all means, however, go on. I was simply stating that Diesel engines are more efficient. Since diesel fuel need not come from petroleum, it is a very attractive alternate fuel source. In addition, it is already widely used, so a gradual shift to diesel, at least as a temporary measure, can help alleviate the demand for oil. I'm not suggesting that it is the best substance in the world. I believe it is a rather bad polutant, but it can be renewable, is efficient, and is plentiful. -------------------- "As our circle of knowledge expands, so does the circumference of darkness surrounding it." --Albert Einstein -------------------- Posts: 536 | Registered: Sunday, September 7 2003 07:00 |

This kind of makes me want a diesel engine. Just to try this. Diesel in and of itself should not be overlooked as an alternate energy source. Diesel engines are considerably more efficient than regular gasoline engines. -------------------- "As our circle of knowledge expands, so does the circumference of darkness surrounding it." --Albert Einstein -------------------- Posts: 536 | Registered: Sunday, September 7 2003 07:00 |

We constructed it out of PVC piping. You put a tire air valve in an end cap on one end and a regular PVC ball valve on the other. Pump air into the tire valve, but don't get pressure above 30 psi or so, just to be on the safe side. Open ball valve and pressurized air flows out. It's pretty similar to a spud gun. As for the surgical tubing, you'll need lots of strands to get a high enough coefficient of elasticity. -------------------- "As our circle of knowledge expands, so does the circumference of darkness surrounding it." --Albert Einstein -------------------- Posts: 536 | Registered: Sunday, September 7 2003 07:00 |

Yeah I've heard a similar story. They would collect used cooking oil from local restaurants. I'm not sure how it works chemically, but the car ran. -------------------- "As our circle of knowledge expands, so does the circumference of darkness surrounding it." --Albert Einstein -------------------- Posts: 536 | Registered: Sunday, September 7 2003 07:00 |

I couldn't be attracted romantically to an animal for the same reason that I wouldn't date an unintelligent girl. As for sex with animals, that's kind of gross, and I'm not sure that vixens are large enough to accomodate human members. I believe bestiality is also illegal in many jurisdictions, as it is considered cruelty to animals. Whether this is right or wrong, it is the law. I would advise people to check their local statutes before boning their pets. That will be all. -------------------- "As our circle of knowledge expands, so does the circumference of darkness surrounding it." --Albert Einstein -------------------- Posts: 536 | Registered: Sunday, September 7 2003 07:00 |

The furthest I've ever flung something was when I shot a marshmallow 73 feet. This was during the test run for a marshmallow launching competition that served as part of my grade for Introduction to the Engineering Profession. We had to shoot a marshmallow 50 feet using materials that cost less than $20. The idea was to get the marshmallow as close as possible to a target 50 feet away. We used a pressurized air cannon, which was a bad idea, seeing as the marshmallows gunked up the barrel and therefore didn't make it as far. One of the best designs was a simple bungee cord sligshot, it could shoot well over 100 feet and was also extremely accurate. I don't know if any of this helps much. -------------------- "As our circle of knowledge expands, so does the circumference of darkness surrounding it." --Albert Einstein -------------------- Posts: 536 | Registered: Sunday, September 7 2003 07:00 |

Likewise. BoA doesn't have Alcritas, Shyguy, Brett, or Barcoorah. I hope that someday BoA will have the same quality of scenarios as BoE, but I think we have a long ways to go before that day comes. This is not a slight against BoA. BoA is a much more powerful scenario editor, but is much less user friendly and more time consuming. Various utilities, such as the 3D editor, have made the editing interface better, but it will be a long time before people can design scenarios the size of At The Gallows or AC3, or if they do, it is doubtful that they will have the same depth. -------------------- "As our circle of knowledge expands, so does the circumference of darkness surrounding it." --Albert Einstein -------------------- Posts: 536 | Registered: Sunday, September 7 2003 07:00 |

I'm sad to say it, but I have to stand with tEH dahlay llama on this one. Other than the BoX's Avernum 4 is my favorite. Then again the only other ones I've played was Exile III, so I'm hardly the best judge in this matter. -------------------- "As our circle of knowledge expands, so does the circumference of darkness surrounding it." --Albert Einstein -------------------- Posts: 536 | Registered: Sunday, September 7 2003 07:00 |
