You don't draw the line. We do. Be very afraid. Not only if you're Tully, mind you, although he was asking for it. —Alorael, who did rapidly enable and disable HTML. It only takes a few seconds, so don't bother trying to catch him with his HTML up. Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

1) Which is your favorite Avernum game? Avernum 2. 2) What is your favorite melee weapon class? Swords. 3) What is your favorite missile weapon class? Bows. 4) What is your favorite spell in Avernum? Divine Warrior. 5) What spell did you like in an earlier Avernum game, but was removed in a later sequel? Divine Warrior 6) What is your favorite dagger/sword? The Alien Blade. The Mithril Blade is better but the Alien Blade is the most fun. 7) What is your favorite spear/pike/halberd? The Black Halberd. 8) What is your favorite bow/crossbow? The Fury Crossbow. I can't even remember any other good ones before A4. 9) What is your favorite thrown missile? I don't use them. In E3 I did like the returning dart. 10) Which enemy type do you hate the most? Things that split, especially Doomguards. 11) If you could stand-in for any character in the game aside from the party, which character would you choose? Patrick. He has a good, productive life. He finds love unlike most other Avernite wizards. He knows when it's over and how to bow out respectably. 12) If you could stop or change one event in Avernum, what would it be? The birth of Starrus. Having Chevyn in charge would have been very interesting. 13) Who is your favorite character, aside from the party? Erika, not that there are many actual characters in Avernum. 14) Which Black Shade did you like the most? (A4) The shade of fear. It had fun effects. 15) If you could destroy one being in Avernum, who/what would it be? I don't hate any of them enough to start waving obliteration around. 16) Who is your favorite dragon? Khoth. I identify with him! 17) What type of armor do you prefer? (Leather, chain mail, etc.) Chain. I just like it, and it works nicely for just about everyone. Don't leave character creation without a few Natural Mages. 18) Aside from adventuring, which profession would you take in Avernum? Mage. They're the ones running the show, and they get all the best eccentricities. 19) Do you prefer to fight enemies, or would you rather flee? Don't live to fight another day! Live not to have to. Plus killing things gets all the best treasure and more experience. 20) What reasons do you have for becoming adventurers? See 19. 21) Who is your favorite mage/priest outside of your party? Patrick or Erika. 22) Who is your favorite villain? I can't say I'm fond of any of the villains, really. Rentar is the only one who has any character, though, so Rentar it is. 23) If you had the chance to have a cameo of yourself inserted in any of the Avernum series, would you take it? Of course. Gale, here I come! 24) Who was the most annoying non-party character in the Avernum series? Bureaucrats. Always the bureaucrats. 25) What is your favorite city in Avernum or the Empire? Formello. It has a great location and beautiful scenery. It also seems to be the least assaulted of Avernum's cities. Lorelei is nice on the surface except for the falling rocks. 26) If you had just one character in your party, what skills would he/she be trained in? Warrior priest. 27) What's your favorite Xian Item? Xian Pouch. If you're going to have goofy items, you should have very goofy items. 28) If you could travel to any of the continents on the surface, which one would you choose? Doston, har har. 29) Which skill do you think is the MOST valuable in the entire Avernum series? Priest. You can't get far without a priest. 30) Which skill do you think is the LEAST valuable in the entire Avernum series? Throwing. Who throws? 31) What is your favorite Avernum cuisine? Mushroom merlot. 32) If there was one thing you could add to the Avernum series, what would it be? Better characters. Or just character for the existing characters. 33) What's your favorite special item? The Wand of Unusual Results, and I don't care that it doesn't appear in Avernum. 34) Do you have your characters wear pants? Yes, but only because there are no kilts. 35) If Avernum had lost the Avernum/Empire War, what do you think would've happened? Every Avernite would die, and that would be that. The the vahnatai would have really butchered the Empire. Everyone loses. —Alorael, who can't say he feels terribly compelled by any of these questions. Maybe he's just running out of faux witticisms. I'm not sure if item costs changed, although I think Jeff said somewhere that he reduced them slightly. There are plenty of expensive non-item things to buy, though. Buying spells and shaping is expensive, and buying other nice additions is even more so. Money is never in short supply, but the turnover is very quick. —Alorael, who thinks cash flow may also be strongly influenced by the faction you join. It makes sense, actually, but he can't (yet) comment further on it. Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

I have no idea what you're talking about, Nioca. —Alorael, who has himself on occasion decided not to register a game not because it was too expensive but because he didn't want to go through the effort of filling out the form and mailling the letter. Online ordering makes buying easier, but still not effortless. On a related note, this same principle goes a long way towards explaining Apple's success with selling music through iTunes. I suppose I can look into Miyazaki if I'm ever in the mood to see the better side of anime. I've considered trying out Tales From Earthsea anyway, but I'm dubious about having LeGuin's work anime-ified, and it's the wrong Miyazaki who did it. —Alorael, who would rather have tasteful characters and tasteful violence (ha) than exaggeration of either one. He's an under the top kind of guy. Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

This is no longer a subtle touch. This is total war, and all weapons will be utilized. If strikethrough doesn't end the spam then I won't stop until I find out what does. Beware, spammers! Texts will scroll! [Edit: And I have been "publically" ridiculed as I deserve.] —Alorael, who may also just delete posts entirely. That works just fine too. Three strikes and you're banned, or at least Canned and publicly ridiculed. The "other member" may be you. The UBB is very bad at releasing used monikers, and it's especially bad at releasing them to the account that used them in the first place. Don't try to understand it. —Alorael, whose gimmick isn't stale. It's just hardened and toughened by years of good use, and he'll hear no suggestions to the contrary. Misc. died because it became a spamfest. The better parts of Misc. relocated to General, and unfortunately so did the worst parts. It's our job to keep the good in and the bad out, and it's really not all that difficult to do. There's no need to go creating new perfect forums when you can perfect the ones you've got. I'd hold up RWG as an exemplar, but... well, I'm sure you can all detect the problems. —Alorael, who reraises. Are you still in, Tully? Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

Not everyone loves anime, actually. [Edit: Okay, I also got Hyuuga Neji. Hooray?] —Alorael, who has nothing against anime, really, except a disliking for most members of the genre. Naruto is even more egregiously guilty of the worst of anime-ness than many of its fellows. First of all, I reject the definition of spam given here. It's possible in a busy month to post far more without spamming. It's also possible to post less and spam more. Call your stats something else, like babble. That's more accurate. Secondly, because I posted on this before and can no longer find that post, I declare war on spam. Spam threads will be closed, spammers will be censured, and spam posts will be considered fair game for editing. —Alorael, who has made these threats before and rarely carried them out. That sets a bad precedent. He needs to rectify it, and you would be wise to ensure that your posts are not tools of rectification. Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

Actually, while I read it intermittently, I've decided that I'll hold off on seriously following it until the 101 catches up with the Advanced Class section. Or that's my excuse, anyway. —Alorael, whose webcomic habit has reached critical proportions. They take so little time individually, yet collectively they're a time sink. Some people complained that the humorous Foglio art detracted from the mood of Avernum, but I love those illustrations and wouldn't mind having them reappear in later Avernums or Geneforges. Divinely Touched is priceless. —Alorael, who also liked collecting new skills both for new skills and to see what beautiful art came with them. And he always got a thrill when looking at the skills in a new Avernum. Yes, he is clearly a primary candidate for disappearing forever if he clicks on the Girl Genius link.
