Some one needs to ban our newest member adult site as we start the new month of statistics. Maybe Aran can see how many new members are banned because of this. It seems to be an increasing problem. Posts: 4643 | Registered: Friday, February 10 2006 08:00 |

That's sick. I wonder if this sort of thing actually attracts people or what. It just seems like a waste of time. -------------------- You acquire an item: Radio Free Foil Posts: 1169 | Registered: Monday, September 23 2002 07:00 |

Look on the bright side, someone thought this sight was receiving enough traffic to be worthy of genuine spam, not the cheap homemade stuff we produce here. -------------------- You lose. Posts: 2156 | Registered: Thursday, August 24 2006 07:00 |

Our ever-vigilant Imban has already pointed out this worthy individual, and Aran caught its older sibling. —Alorael, who might suggest that one burst of spam begets another and that you have no one to blame but yourselves for this. He's too nice to actually suggest such a thing, however. Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

Actually the ever vigilant *i has already banned this character long before this post has been made. Don't worry, this bot shows up about once every other day on average and I'm on it. -------------------- Your flower power is no match for my glower power! I noticed that he has the same login name of his previous account. How is possible? quote:And I can see that you're not even going to dignify this idiot with the lofty title of BANNED, he does not deserve it. :) quote:Another third-person gimmick? :P -------------------- Download Geneforge 4: Rebellion You have 6 posts. quote:Wait a sec... How is that possible? The only three ways to do this that I can think of are: 1) The bot can hack into the system and un-ban itself. 2) Of our 7601 members, 5000 of them consist of the same bot. So basically, it's the same member over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over... Oops, got a little carried away there. 3) Administrators have the power to delete members. In my opinion, each of these are equally frightening prospects. -------------------- I tried to think of something witty to put here. Needless to say, I failed. 1) No. 2) You assume the bot started at the birth of these boards. Which is ignorant. 3) I'm sure they do. -------------------- DEMON PLAY, DEMON OUT! Posts: 1582 | Registered: Wednesday, November 13 2002 08:00 |

Wow, I feel accomplished... I definitely pointed that out to Imban before this topic was born. Of course, with everyone being Imban and all, Imban already knew because I knew. Right. My head hurts now... but personally, I don't remember many members like this trying to infiltrate the boards. -------------------- Gamble with Gaea, and she eats your dice. I hate undead. Okay, but the one that Randomizer pointed at is still there... or does deleting accounts just do horrible things to UBB? I told Drakefyre about 7664 because he was online then. Stareye got to the other one. Drakefyre deletes spammers. Stareye's banning leaves no marks. -------------------- Encyclopaedia Ermariana • Forum Archives • Forum Statistics • RSS [Topic / Forum] My Blog • Polaris • I eat novels for breakfast. Whereas Drakey is a high priest of that dark deity, much like Icshi and Richard White. We might have a theme going there... I have seen the dark forum yawning Where the black topics roll without aim Where they roll in their horror unheeded Without posts, or pages, or name. -------------------- Encyclopaedia Ermariana • Forum Archives • Forum Statistics • RSS [Topic / Forum] My Blog • Polaris • I eat novels for breakfast. Aran I asked this once before, but is the number of new members those that register or do you subtract out the spam bots? If we are getting one new account a day that is a bot then about one third of the new members last month were bots and about half of the non-active accounts that don't post are bots. That leaves a few new members that haven't posted because they are true lurkers and the oldies making extra accounts for their nefarious purposes. Oddly enough, that account's links are broken, and the site is nonexistent. So... no threat, I suppose. -------------------- Gamble with Gaea, and she eats your dice. I hate undead. I really, really, really, really hate undead. With a passion. Posts: 4130 | Registered: Friday, March 26 2004 08:00 |

These accounts aren't really all that harmful if all they do is register and not post. Sure, the newest member may be suspect, but newbies are always suspect. —Alorael, who considers this another sign of Arctic's dereliction of duty. In the old days these invisible newbies would have been safely eaten and no trouble to anyone. Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

Also, in GF4 Boards I'm noticing many newbies with a low-member number that just posts and go away. Were they lurking for all this time, or what? Anyways, I have the bot well in hand. No need to remind me, I check the list of newly registered members every day or so. This topic has outlived its purpose. -------------------- Your flower power is no match for my glower power! Posts: 3726 | Registered: Tuesday, September 18 2001 07:00 |
