Not everyone loves anime, actually. [Edit: Okay, I also got Hyuuga Neji. Hooray?] —Alorael, who has nothing against anime, really, except a disliking for most members of the genre. Naruto is even more egregiously guilty of the worst of anime-ness than many of its fellows. I dislike anime in general, but there are a few spectacular gems out there, like Spirited Away. Also, there are numerous anime productions that, while not very good from an artistic or storytelling standpoint, are either interesting (.hack//SIGN) or unintentionally hillarious (YuGiOh). -------------------- Slarty vs. Desk • Desk vs. Slarty • Timeline of Ermarian • G4 Strategy Central Posts: 3560 | Registered: Wednesday, November 7 2001 08:00 |

quote:Seconded. In my humble opinion, a lot of really good animation has fallen by the wayside lately... to be replaced by bigger quantities of poorly-produced junk. Come to think of it, it's a bit like the recent spamfest. But give me the classics anyday. EDIT: For some reason, this makes me long for the Xian Skull topic, even though I never saw it. Spirited Away was crap. I don't understand why so many people liked it. If I want cartoon characters with exaggerated features and personalities, I want exaggerated violence to compliment all that other garbage. Akira is the only way to go with anime. -------------------- You lose. Posts: 2156 | Registered: Thursday, August 24 2006 07:00 |

Considering the substance of the previous stated opinion as a whole, I have decided not to take personal offense at the sacrilegious attitude expressed toward Hayao Miyazaki, simply one of the greatest animators of all time, who is worshipped by Disney, who have thoughtully been reissuing his otherwise much-overlooked works in parts of the world. -S- EDIT: xifed my lysdexia [ Friday, November 17, 2006 16:01: Message edited by: S is for Synergy ] -------------------- A4 Item Locations A4 Singleton G4 Items List G4 Forging List The Insidious Infiltrator Posts: 2009 | Registered: Monday, September 12 2005 07:00 |

Hey, I never said I had anything against Miyazaki. Princess Mononoke was pure awesome. I just think Spirited Away was stupid and overrated. -------------------- You lose. Posts: 2156 | Registered: Thursday, August 24 2006 07:00 |

Spirited Away was a different sort of story from Akira. It's basically a very convoluted fairy tale with gross attention to detail. It's certainly not for everyone and I can understand why you don't like it, E.T. However, it really was superb in its storytelling and production values, so calling it "crap" is kind of like calling Shakespeare crap -- it just makes you look irrational. -------------------- Slarty vs. Desk • Desk vs. Slarty • Timeline of Ermarian • G4 Strategy Central Posts: 3560 | Registered: Wednesday, November 7 2001 08:00 |

I love a lot of Miyazaki's work - Spirited Away was not in my top 5 either. TCM ran a Miyazaki month a while ago and I saw a lot of them, and they were the first anime I've actually been able to sit through. -------------------- "At times discretion should be thrown aside, and with the foolish we should play the fool." - Menander ==== Drakefyre's Demesne - Happy Happy Joy Joy Encyclopedia Ermariana - Trapped in the Closet ==== You can take my Mac when you pry my cold, dead fingers off the mouse! I suppose I can look into Miyazaki if I'm ever in the mood to see the better side of anime. I've considered trying out Tales From Earthsea anyway, but I'm dubious about having LeGuin's work anime-ified, and it's the wrong Miyazaki who did it. —Alorael, who would rather have tasteful characters and tasteful violence (ha) than exaggeration of either one. He's an under the top kind of guy. Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

I can picture Alorael enjoying Howl's Moving Castle. The... well, one of the main plot points involves an old woman, and significant portions of the animation are spent detailing the creaky movements of her joints, which actually change over time and are an important piece of the story. -------------------- Slarty vs. Desk • Desk vs. Slarty • Timeline of Ermarian • G4 Strategy Central Posts: 3560 | Registered: Wednesday, November 7 2001 08:00 |

I don't really do the Naruto thing. In fact, there's not much anime I'm into (though I liked Princess Mononoke and Spirited Away, weird as I found them). Not so much because of a lack of interest as a lack of exposure. Still, I took the test, because what the heck. Which character are you test by Naruto - Kun.com For the record, this quiz needs help with certain translations/English grammar. I can't believe I still haven't seen Howl's Moving Castle. Must remedy that. I wasn't that fond of Spirited Away either, but it's still much more notable than so much other animation, and also, even more notably, it's still real animation, not computer animation. A dying breed of art. Meanwhile, I'm trying to decide how I should feel about the following test results: Which character are you test by Naruto - Kun.com -S- -------------------- A4 Item Locations A4 Singleton G4 Items List G4 Forging List The Insidious Infiltrator Posts: 2009 | Registered: Monday, September 12 2005 07:00 |

You should feel brought to justice, S. Edit: Also, you should feel glad that no one has tested as Naruto himself yet. I'm very picky about my anime. I like Full-Metal Alchemist, Lodoss War, Trigun, Neon Genesis Envangelion, and occasionally Inuyasha. Other than that, I really don't like any of them. -------------------- "You're drinking liquor because you're thirsty?
