quote:"Not, understood you perfectly" is not something I understand perfectly. And read is a verb unless you listen to those evil heathen descriptivists, and you don't start sentences with conjunctions! —Alorael, who sees the beginnings of a satisfying flame war started entirely by grammar sparked by the presence of non-native English speakers, more or less. Spiderweb is truly a marvelous place. Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

Since I look at my number of karma votes every day in passing while changing my PDN, I noticed that I have one more. I'll assume that it's from Fartman. It didn't actually change my karma, however. This means one of two things: either he didn't vote one star or I've finally hit the threshold where votes no longer make any difference. —Alorael, who is actually rather excited about it. My subconscious somehow decided that the Ramen (whose name always makes me chuckle), who include Manethralls, must live in Manetheren. It makes sense if you're subconcious. —Alorael, who wonders if there is a subconscious forum below SubTerra and, if so, what the posts are like. quote:And now I can gleefully correct the correcter. To undertake is, in fact, a verb. It's not a common verb, but it's used correctly here. —Alorael, who questions the 5%. This may be accurate if you extrapolate from the past few years, or even the past century. Examine the last thousand years, though, and you'll see that we went from pre-Norman invasion Old English to modern English. Forget words. Our alphabet has changed more than 5%. Where are the ashes, eths, and thorns of yestermillenium? Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

Except it's "backtostart" instead. —Alorael, who feels no shame in backtostarting. It's like using a pylon except not from a pylon. And when you're trapped in the caves, well, sometimes the only way around a bug is cheating. Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

quote:Easter's too soon for TM's resurrection! [Edit: Token effort at using good grammar. The original version is quoted below anyway.] —Alorael, who is pretty sure the quoted statement is hyperbolic. Cruficied, killed, and banned? Surely one or two of those cover TM's woeful fate. The UBB uses an algorithm far more sophisticated than equal weight to evaluate karma. I wouldn't be surprised if vote weight were a function of member number. It makes as much sense as the rest of the UBB. —Alorael, who holds the distinction of the most karma votes. When you post a lot, apparently people find something that moves them somewhere. Wheel of Time, actually, but while I wasn't thinking about it I sort of had a background assumption of Thomas Covenant, so you're closer. —Alorael, who wouldn't be too sure the UBB logs anything. Remember, this is the UBB. If it can be useless it will be useless. Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

I deleted the threads for speed. Previous experience suggested that PE might keep on creating new threads and I didn't want to let them pile up as I edited and locked. There was nothing worth preserving anyway except the dignity of the PPP. You know, Aran, as a mod you don't just have to quote and append FYT. You can actually fix typos! If only there were a way to conceal that pesky "Edited by..." line. —Alorael, who remembers back in the misty heydey of Misc. he created a thread that began with a warning that all posts within the thread were subject to indiscriminate summary alteration. And then he altered summarily and indiscriminately. Those were the days! Posts were real posts back then. Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

Please do not open or respond to any threads made by Public Enemy. They are very likely to contain unpleasant images. Avoiding Spiderweb for a while until he can be removed from the boards is a good idea. —Alorael, who would like to apologize for the inconvenience of humans being human. Firn is a word, apparently, although I needed a dictionary to tell me that. As far as I can tell it's pronounced identically to fern, so I can't fathom why someone decided that the more unusual of the homophones belonged in the list. Certain parts of the Midwest have an accent that is perceived by Americans as unaccented American English. It's a rather strange phenomenon, but there's a reason why operators are recruited from Omaha. —Alorael, whose English is a product of New England with a dash of Germany. So now Aran's had, what, four custom titles? Why don't you share the wealth among the proles who would kill for a chance at your Party goods? —Alorael, who must insist that any and all fun had at Aran's expense not impinge on the others mods' sinecures. Certain individuals don't want to be pressed into having to do their duties. Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |
