It's really too bad you're not a mod, seeing as you always know which topics should get locked. ;) Meh. I sense Oroubourosis in this topic, but what with all the recent Spiderweb Software-related topics here in General, I don't see why this shouldn't go ahead. Once Slarty gets better, I mean. -------------------- Encyclopaedia Ermariana • Forum Archives • Forum Statistics • RSS [Topic / Forum] My Blog • Polaris • I eat novels for breakfast. Unlike some people, I try Google before posting on forums. :P In any case, I'm kind of giving up. ext2 isn't Reiser, but it's still better than FAT32. At least I can get large file (>4GB) support, and Ext2 IFS will make it work in Windows. BoG will probably not be developed, after the performance of BoA. Which is on one hand sad because BoA is the greatest under-achieving game I've ever seen since, perhaps ADOM, and it hurts to see it fall by the roadside like this. On the other hand, it means BoA will not be abandoned by the designers for BoG, and as a consequence, I wouldn't need to look at the ugly GF interface to play sgood scenarios. Yes, I know, TM might gnaw his hands off rather than design for the Geneforge engine. But still. -------------------- Encyclopaedia Ermariana • Forum Archives • Forum Statistics • RSS [Topic / Forum] My Blog • Polaris • I eat novels for breakfast. Polaris is dead, long live Polaris. Given that he's been a continual nuisance for more than a year now (or, in fact, far longer if he is also Public Enemy #1), no, we probably haven't. Unfortunately, until he actually comes to the forum, we can't do anything. Until I've finished building that device that can stab people over the internet, I mean. -------------------- Encyclopaedia Ermariana • Forum Archives • Forum Statistics • RSS [Topic / Forum] My Blog • Polaris • I eat novels for breakfast. First, a little story. So a few days ago, my laptop's hard drive failed. Fortunately, there were only a few bad sectors, and none of them destroyed my files (which *cough* hadn't been backed up for about a year). Unfortunately, they ate enough of Windows to make it unable to boot. It turns out that the "system recovery" disk that came with the laptop cannot repair an existing installation, but has to either format or at least wipe all my user files (the stuff under Documents & Settings, which was mostly my email and application data). But there's a silver lining to everything: As I may have mentioned around christmas, I have a new hard drive that I wanted to switch to for ages. So I partitioned it into four portions (3 system partitions and one large data partition) reinstalled Windows on one of the system partitions and copied my user files over from the old drive. However, the fourth partition is still unformatted. I played with the thought to use ReiserFS for this one, since I'll be dual-booting Linux eventually. However, it's not much of a shared data partition if Windows can't use it. So I'm going to put a question to the savvy here: Is there any driver that allows Windows to read and write to a Reiser partition? I've given up of finding a free one and would probably spend up to $50. But so far, all I've seen were either in development or read-only or both. :( -------------------- Encyclopaedia Ermariana • Forum Archives • Forum Statistics • RSS [Topic / Forum] My Blog • Polaris • I eat novels for breakfast. BoA is "more difficult" than BoE to design for in the way that a VCR is more complicated than a pair of rocks. True, there are more settings to learn, but on the other hand, you don't spend most of your time improvising and conceiving of ugly workarounds. :) [ Friday, April 27, 2007 05:12: Message edited by: Dr. Johann Georg Faust ] -------------------- Encyclopaedia Ermariana • Forum Archives • Forum Statistics • RSS [Topic / Forum] My Blog • Polaris • I eat novels for breakfast. So. Nethergate 1.5, Avernum 5, BoE source released... I suppose the MMORPG is not out of the question. But I'm realizing that to Jeff, sometimes "can't do" actually does mean "can't do but would if possible". Especially when it's "can't do at the moment". Which leads us to this. quote:Edit: Source. It's actually still around after almost 4 years. I've always had a more "His Dark Materials" vibe from the spheres trilogy. Let's say surrealist Sci-Fi. One of the few sub-genres that actually do justify SF being shelved next to Fantasy in the book store. And I would like Jeff to make a game that somewhere mentions the name "Ermarian" - with all that this entails. It is practically impossible, especially seeing as he never uses inspirational advice, as a policy. Let alone use a complete world setting developed by the fan community. But I can dream, yes? Can someone more familiar with Mac applications (or Mac&PC architecture in general) tell me what Carbonizing and Universalizing means, and what (if anything) it means for the Windows version? From Jeff's post, I understand that there are two versions of the code, one for Windows and one for Mac. Will any changes be implemented in both separately, or will one of the two be fixed and ported anew? -------------------- Encyclopaedia Ermariana • Forum Archives • Forum Statistics • RSS [Topic / Forum] My Blog • Polaris • I eat novels for breakfast. Wonder how Djur's going to react. I assume it would partly depend on how much of Pygmalion is implemented by now. Unraveling someone's source without support is not very enjoyable, but it may beat re-inventing the wheel. -------------------- Encyclopaedia Ermariana • Forum Archives • Forum Statistics • RSS [Topic / Forum] My Blog • Polaris • I eat novels for breakfast. Domain name doesn't resolve here... is the link in the first post correct? Also, I would like to plug Puzzle Pirates here. One of the MMORPGs where "grinding" has no meaning in the traditional sense. Since all the "skills" are determined by how good you (the player) are at solving a certain time-killing puzzle (jigsaw, something vaguely similar to tetris and four-in-a-row), the only grinding you do is training yourself instead of a number that grows larger no matter what. :P [ Friday, April 27, 2007 04:59: Message edited by: Dr. Johann Georg Faust ] -------------------- Encyclopaedia Ermariana • Forum Archives • Forum Statistics • RSS [Topic / Forum] My Blog • Polaris • I eat novels for breakfast. I used to play NationStates (as Ermarian and countless others), I used to play CyberNations (as Ermarian), I used to play Hyperiums (as Arancaytar), I used to play EverWars (as Arancaytar), I used to play TheArena (a German one you might not know, also as Arancaytar). All of these have one thing in common: I let my accounts lapse and die the death. In NationStates, they are pending eventual resurrection, but everywhere else, I just walked away. When I feel like rotting my brain, I still play Runescape (Arancaytar), whose accounts are eternal. And Puzzle Pirates (also as Arancaytar, in the Cobalt ocean), which is actually quite fun. I think those are all. -------------------- Encyclopaedia Ermariana • Forum Archives • Forum Statistics • RSS [Topic / Forum] My Blog • Polaris • I eat novels for breakfast.
