These will most likely be the last statistics for some time yet.

=======================================

1. Welcome to 153 new members since June 15. 88 of them have posted and left their sanity at the door, the other 65 stayed invisible.

Past months:
April 2005: 151/87
May 2005: 78/43
June 2005: 147/91
July 2005: 153/88

2. Our active community in total is 352, 264 of them old members that have posted at least once this month and the others newly registered.

Past months:
April 2005: 360 (273)
May 2005: 262 (219)
June 2005: 325 (232)
July 2005: 352 (264)

3. Since the last count in June 15, 8691 posts have been published. This equates to 271.6 per day, or 24.7 per active member, or 0.77 per member per day.

Past months:
April 2005: 7576 | 186 | 21 | 0.47
May 2005: 4723 | 169 | 18 | 0.52
June 2005: 7267 | 251 | 22.4 | 0.77
July 2005: 8691 | 271.6 | 24.7 | 0.77

In other words, we've broken the record soundly in terms of posts. This isn't due to anyone posting more than last month, we just have a lot more members!

4. Finally, highscores!

(Sorry, Drakey. In the end, even you yielded to Thuryl's spamming skill)

1. Thuryl 425
2. Drakefyre 398
3. Dolphin. 383
4. Kelandon 333
5. Ben 298
6. Aran 296
7. Alorael 281
8. Spring 273
9. Archmagus Micael 229
10. Jumpin' Salmon 229

Thuryl has retaken his traditional top position that Dolphin took last month, while Dolphin has slid to third place. Drakey tried his best to get first place, but he could not defeat Thuryl. Still, credit must be given for winning the second place out of nowhere - this is the first time Drakey's in the top ten. Kelandon is up from 5th to 4th, while Ben is down from third to 5th. I've managed to come in at place 6 in spite of being away for close to ten days, while Spring has fallen to 8th. Alorael, who incredibly dropped out of the list last month, is back in place 7, while Terror's Martyr has lost his position entirely to unfortunate circumstances.

Newbie of the month is Thralni, who has written 210 posts after registering only in the last month.

========================================

As for now, I wish to make an ANNOUNCEMENT!

It is now Sunday, 17th of July (incidentally one day before my 18th birthday; that is, I am seveneleven tomorrow), and it is five days to the end of the election. Let's not fool ourselves: My victory in this election is practically impossible.

What irks me is not especially that I am second or third, but that I am second or third in a race where - given the actual issues - I should not have been even among the finalists. This is moderation of Spiderweb, not some kind of a personality contest. I have neither experience with moderation (on any board) nor with Spiderweb (compared to the other candidates, including former candidate Alec). I am not unbiased either - you know where I stand on the various issues, from the debates to the roleplays to the pointless flower wars between Desperance and Polaris.

So I choose to take a more interesting way out.

Herewith, I resign my candidacy in the moderator elections, and ask all those members who voted for me or are going to vote for me to switch their votes to Stughalf. Remember that Friday (in four days) is the deadline to do so, so hurry up. Please do this. I am unable to win now, so if you still vote for me, your vote will have no weight or representation. If my votes are merged with Stug's, they do have weight. If Thuryl wins, at least it will have been an interesting show.

t alec: Isn't it ironic that we thus joined forces only after each of us dropped out of the race? To a great cooperation! :)

Whatever will happen, I'm not staying around to find out.

I've been meaning to go for a long time (over a month, at least). The elections were the last thing I was going to ride out - in fact their unexpected start put off my departure by weeks. I have things left to do elsewhere, and my schedule is too tight to spend time on many boards now. I might return some time (perhaps soon), but I don't know when. If I do, I don't know how long, or how active I will be. For all you know, this might be the last time you see me posting here, or I might be back and spamming along next week.

Gentlemen, I regret to announce that this is the END! I am GOING! I am leaving NOW. I bid you all a very fond farewell.

*vanishes*

We could all write it together, send it to him for approval and he'd maybe put it up on the site. :) And the process of checking if the facts are right wouldn't take as long as writing the thing.

Sounds interesting, doesn't it? :D

And thus it came to pass that a project was started and never completed! Here's to two great years of the Encyclopedia, that wonderful project conceived on July 17th 2003 and almost updated/fiddled with almost every two months!

Sorry. Won't be doing this again.

I can't help laughing. Hahaha.

It'd have been far more dramatic if I had read the book first, of course, but this way I get another laugh at what J.K. has come up with to surprise the fans.

Now waiting for the multitude of fan-fictions resurrecting him as Dumbledore the White. :P

I doubt that's what FBM meant.

Terror's Martyr is on the record as wishing to bear Dahak's children, who is, I believe, male. Even if she were female, the phrase "bearing somebody's children" implies that the speaker is the one who gives birth, which is indeed disturbing.

In theory. In practice, unfortunately, a lot of democracies are actually oligarchies. This is amplified by the degree of power that bribes and other secret deals offer. Currently, in America, there are around 5, perhaps 10, people who can make the "government" do pretty much what they want if they work together - forget about checks and balances. Even not taking into account that one party controls all three branches, a little money can take care of a lot of things, and this power group has a lot of money.

I'm voting for Stughalf, and I encourage others who voted for me to do the same. There is little chance of either of us winning separately.

The election was very fair.

They might have preferred Kel over Stug too. Stughalf is a very good candidate, and it should be noted that Alec has himself given his support to him, but the manner of his entry into the list was an undemocratic intervention on the part of a single person.

The votes a candidate receives are lent to him, not donated. They aren't his to give.

But hey, Stug will be a good mod- mostly since he doesn't take leads from you.

Unless Thuryl wins, which seems the likely outcome.

Darn, and I was this close to a windfall victory from all the solid candidates taking each other apart. :P

It occurs to me I could have dropped out and possibly even entered two other candidates and thus forcing Thuryl out of the race. I have to crunch the numbers to be sure, but history might have been different. But I didn't and it wasn't.

The most stressful times of my life (and the ones with the least sleep) are usually marked by extremely vivid dreams that I can remember in clear detail after waking. It's a very fascinating experience - once I've tried sleep deprivation simply to see if I could get interesting dreams. Unfortunately, while it worked, sort of, I was in a very bad shape at the end of the week.

Stughalf: Don't worry, I don't get the "chocolate sundae" bit either. I have the suspicion someone has been wildly improvising.

But Alec's depiction is rather accurate. There should probably be Kelandon somewhere in there; he's responsible for the Stughalf/Alec switch after all.

I've never been in a situation where I couldn't get a shower for over a week. This year, I don't think five days have passed without me showering, and I usually try to do so every other day. By the third day without show, I feel uncomfortable, and by the fourth, I can't bear my own stench (besides my skin starts to itch).

But yes, there were times when I went for weeks without showering, long ago...
