I was there, though. Since the script is running on the server, not on my computer, it doesn't really stop me from doing something else on it. I just need to keep the browser with the page open, or the server will abort the script.

:eek: You write nine posts per day plus 4000 words for NaNoWriMo plus statistics ...I'm speechless. Do you ever sleep?

Too rarely. After it caught up to me yesterday, I had to call in sick for Thursday and Friday because I had such a bad headache.

Oh, and what my Nano novel needs is a few good days of writing around 4000-5000 words. Technically possible, but... :rolleyes:

I protest at your insinuation that Internet Explorer is leet. :P

FileZilla is a good client, and up to 1.0.7 Firefox was compatible with an extension called FireFTP, which was a client accessible from within the browser. Unfortunately, this extension isn't yet compatible with 1.5 . :rolleyes:

Felt that way too originally, but about a week after it was released I got around to giving it a try. I've used it since, among other things because I can browse ftp sites with it.

A major issue is that most of the extensions are no longer compatible of course.

What version are you using? I have no trouble browsing webpages through ftp on Firefox; I'm using 1.5.

If you don't get a window asking you to enter a password, try writing the URL as ftp://username@webpage.com/etc/.

Silly me, I forgot the "DESC". I was going to sort those with the same rank by their total postcount, but in descending order, not ascending as it's now.

I don't know which is better - sorting by descending postcount or by ascending member number.

Thank goodness for a unix server with ssh access, things like this are incredibly inconvenient to do through the phpMyAdmin panel.

Thralni being Dutch, English would count as another language to him. Just pointing out the obvious. :)

Since the server went up again some time during this night (it's now 7 AM here), I was able to spend the last few hours making the stats.

I've switched from using csv files in Excel to letting a MySQL database do most of the number crunching. Again, there's no visible difference, except it's a lot more convenient (although the switch cost me more time than the Excel thing would have). Also, it's a lot cooler, and I can practice what I just learnt. :)

So...

1. Joining Rate

SELECT COUNT(ppp_members.id) AS "New Members" FROM ppp_members WHERE id>6397;
->83
SELECT COUNT(ppp_members.id) AS "New Posters"
FROM ppp_members
WHERE id>6397 AND posts>0;
->41
As for new members, there are 83 new registrations, of which 41 have posted. In total, there are now 6480 members - this number includes deleted accounts.

No significant change from last month.

Monthly Overview:
April 2005: 151/87
May 2005: 78/43
June 2005: 147/91
July 2005: 153/88
August 2005: 108/62
September 2005: 91/52
October 2005: 81/43
November 2005: 83/41

2. Activity

SELECT
ppp_members.*
FROM ppp_old, ppp_members
WHERE ppp_old.id = ppp_members.id
AND ppp_old.posts != ppp_members.posts;
->193
234 members have posted in the last month. This is a small increase from last month's 229, but not significantly so. 193 of these are older members, and 41 have just registered this month.

Monthly Overview:
April 2005: 360 (273)
May 2005: 262 (219)
June 2005: 325 (232)
July 2005: 352 (264)
August 2005: 293 (231)
September 2005: 256 (204)
October 2005: 229 (186)
November 2005: 234 (193)

Postage:
SELECT
SUM(ppp_members.posts)-SUM(ppp_old.posts)
FROM ppp_members,ppp_old
WHERE ppp_old.id=ppp_members.id;
-->4171
SELECT SUM( posts )
FROM `ppp_members`
WHERE id>6397
-->218
4389 posts, which breaks last month's low record. We're on a steady decline, folks - if this continues, the board will be dead in... oh... 4 years. :P

141.58 posts per day, 18.76 posts per member, 0.61 per member per day.

Monthly Overview:
April 2005: 7576 | 186 | 21 | 0.47
May 2005: 4723 | 169 | 18 | 0.52
June 2005: 7267 | 251 | 22.4 | 0.77
July 2005: 8691 | 271.6 | 24.7 | 0.77
August 2005: 5917 | 190.9 | 20.1 | 0.65
September 2005: 5412 | 174.6 | 21.1 | 0.68
October 2005: 4477 | 149.3 | 19.5 | 0.65
November 2005: 4389 | 141.6 | 18.8 | 0.61

4. Rankings

SELECT
ppp_members.id AS "Member #",
ppp_members.displayed_name AS "Name",
ppp_members.posts AS "New Postcount",
ppp_members.posts-ppp_old.posts AS "This Month",
FROM ppp_members,ppp_old
WHERE ppp_members.id=ppp_old.id
AND ppp_members.posts-ppp_old.posts>0
ORDER BY ppp_members.posts-ppp_old.posts DESC,
ppp_members.posts DESC,
ppp_members.id ASC
LIMIT 0, 500;
869 Thuryl +2842984 Aran +2694 TM +2425977 Thralni +207335 Alorael +1821468 Eldibs +1775491 Ash Lael +1335755 Jumpin' Salmon +1245450 Spring +1176292 Synergy67 +115Second. And I should be writing Nanowrimo. Ouch.
List for November 2005 - Generated with PHP and the above query. :)
Edit: Forgot that code tags don't break lines, and instead break posts.

Aha. I do the same, but use PHP both for the downloading and parsing process.

Wow. It appears the server just came back from the dead. Seeing as it is 3:32 AM here, an ungodly hour to be awake even for many sysadmins, that is rather odd.

So thanks for the offer, but this time I can do it on my own webspace once again.

Edit:
Done!

Updating the php script: 30 minutes
Running the php script: 3.5 hours
Updating the database: 1 hour
Figuring out the SQL queries: 45 minutes
Posting the results: 20 minutes

Giving 10 (9) members of Spiderweb the satisfactory feeling of having contributed to the hastening the next board purge: Useless.
:P

And if you know, don't tell, I presume. I had the misfortune of seeing that when someone plastered it onto our public ftp folder at Polaris. :rolleyes:

It is at least likely. Unless you're taking a vacation from posting and Motrax takes over your account to make that 10k post. :nods:

Edit: How did you count this? You are using a script, I presume?

Edit 2: It appears that my webhost admin is attending a funeral this week and probably can't be reached until the weekend.

If anyone has PHP-enabled webspace to offer - temporarily - on a short term (meaning right now), it would be a great help. I can mail the scripts and any instructions for the setup.

I didn't say I classed "Necronomicon" as a normal word, I was just giving another example like "Vahnatai". :P

(No, seriously, I've grown out of my Lovecraft mania by now.)

Your post count is the number of words I should have written every day of November till now. It is also rather higher than the average of the actual words I've written. :(

Matrix manipulations on a thermometer must be about as fun as playing a First Person Shooter on an abacus. :)
