Since the server went up again some time during this night (it's now 7 AM here), I was able to spend the last few hours making the stats. I've switched from using csv files in Excel to letting a MySQL database do most of the number crunching. Again, there's no visible difference, except it's a lot more convenient (although the switch cost me more time than the Excel thing would have). Also, it's a lot cooler, and I can practice what I just learnt. :) So... 1. Joining Rate As for new members, there are 83 new registrations, of which 41 have posted. Booya! #13, I beat him! *cheers* ^^ Also the highest I've ever gotten -- I'm pretty sure about that. The 'post something at least once every day' trick worked, although I didn't post something *every* day. But on some days I posted more than once. Yay! I can post! :P -------------------- "I'm not crazy!" "Well, whatever. As a little bonus, here's the list of all people who have new monikers. Thank goodness for a unix server with ssh access, things like this are incredibly inconvenient to do through the phpMyAdmin panel. And guess what, with this pure text output I no longer need to fiddle around with those html ranking pages! Next month's full ranking will be right in the post itself, like so: Edit: Fixed the sorting. I was going to complain about the text being small, but then I figured it's just this damn browser. Silly Firefox messes up fonts. Then I thought that those posts will be rather long, but I figured it didn't really matter either. So.. why are those with the same amount of posts ordered by their post count? Wasn't that done on some other way before? -------------------- "I'm not crazy!" "Well, whatever. Silly me, I forgot the "DESC". I was going to sort those with the same rank by their total postcount, but in descending order, not ascending as it's now. I don't know which is better - sorting by descending postcount or by ascending member number. If you think that's silly then you should hear this: I actually forgot I changed my moniker and starred at the list for about 5 minutes until I finally decided to look for my member number. Posts: 1035 | Registered: Friday, April 1 2005 08:00 |

Hooray! I'm number 6. I moved up like 14 places from last month. quote:I've never had that problem. The only problem I've had with Firefox is trying to access my webpage through FTP, which it completely failed at, forcing me to have to use Internet Explorer for that. </leetness> [ Thursday, November 17, 2005 06:08: Message edited by: Eldibs ] -------------------- "We can learn a lot from crayons. What version are you using? I have no trouble browsing webpages through ftp on Firefox; I'm using 1.5. If you don't get a window asking you to enter a password, try writing the URL as ftp://username@webpage.com/etc/. -------------------- Encyclopaedia Ermariana • Forum Archives • Forum Statistics • RSS [Topic / Forum] My Blog • Polaris • I eat novels for breakfast. That might be the problem. I believe I'm on version 1.07. Man, they update fast. Edit: 1.5 is still a release canidate, which may be why I never got around to downloading it. </leetness> [ Thursday, November 17, 2005 06:34: Message edited by: Eldibs ] -------------------- "We can learn a lot from crayons. Felt that way too originally, but about a week after it was released I got around to giving it a try. I've used it since, among other things because I can browse ftp sites with it. A major issue is that most of the extensions are no longer compatible of course. -------------------- Encyclopaedia Ermariana • Forum Archives • Forum Statistics • RSS [Topic / Forum] My Blog • Polaris • I eat novels for breakfast. It's a good thing that I don't use any extensions then. I'll install it once I get back to my computer. Is there some way to upload to an FTP site via Firefox? I installed it on this machine, but it only lets me view the files, not change them. </leetness> [ Thursday, November 17, 2005 06:54: Message edited by: Eldibs ] -------------------- "We can learn a lot from crayons. Wait! I noticed I can make one complaint about that list, if you will indeed start using it. It doesn't show ranks. I mean people will want to see what number they are in terms of new posts, and they would have to count to their one by one. It's.. inconvenient. -------------------- "I'm not crazy!" It's easy enough to count your ranks if you're near the top! If you'd just spam more you'd have no reason to complain. —Alorael, who is starting to get worried. At this rate Thuryl will catch up to his post count in a mere three and a half years. He'd better start double posting and deleting the evidence more often! But wait, Thuryl can do that too… (Single character ellipsis!) Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

Ah... 12th. Down 5, but I can live with that. Particularly when I consider that I almost beat Alo last month, it's about time I slowed down. Oh, yay for that too. If Dolph was around, I would've lost to her, I think. Anyway, I was actually hoping I'd get over 1000 posts by now, but.. oh well, you can't win everything. Maybe I can keep this posting up this month as well and then- Wait. I don't care if I reach 1000. :\ It's not like I'll post anything about it, except maybe edit my 1000th post if someone points it out. Not a topic, definitely. That's until for laters. EDIT: Also, I don't know how Aran sleeps, but I definitely sleep at all the wrong times. I protest at your insinuation that Internet Explorer is leet. :P FileZilla is a good client, and up to 1.0.7 Firefox was compatible with an extension called FireFTP, which was a client accessible from within the browser. Unfortunately, this extension isn't yet compatible with 1.5 . -------------------- Encyclopaedia Ermariana • Forum Archives • Forum Statistics • RSS [Topic / Forum] My Blog • Polaris • I eat novels for breakfast.
