Speaking from a completely numbers based point of view, it's a lot more economical to kill off repeat murderers. Sometimes in the case of a net gain in lives, and it almost always saves money (if done quickly and with a minimal amount of money invested, say, a bullet.)

Of course, if you have any sort of heart at all (this includes Republicans,) you'd prefer a more…justice…ish way of administering…justice.

Who are your best authorities?

EDIT: And the idea that homosexuality was forbidden in order to keep the population from dying off is completely ridiculous. There wouldn't ever be enough of it to bring the population down to dangerous levels.

After reading news edit: So the law says he cannot deny the Holocaust. To me, an American, that sounds like a ban on free speech.

However, the law is intended to keep the truth the truth and to strongly protect it. Don't go all reletivism and say that we really don't know the truth, because that's retardation (in this case). Irving himself even admitted to the gas chambers' existance.

So, in conclusion, I'd say: he deserved it, because he knew better than to go into a country where he was banned from entering, that's just risky. I'm not saying he deserved it for his denial.

This is not chrono trigger discussion. That is wrong.

Anyway, let it be known that, in my mediocrity, I'm thinking about doing a CT scenario, adapted and fixed for a BoE-possible storyline.

Time to delve into Leviticus, yay! (Or not yay, depending on whether you like boring yourself to death.)

Many people will claim that this means nothing anymore (in reference to the homosexuality argument), but they're absolutely wrong. The section that contains the many "thou shalt not's" (including thou shalt not lie as man with man, is it chapter 26? meh) is in there primarily to direct Hebrew behavior away from the practices of the Canaanite tribes around them. The people in and around Isrealite territory were doing everything that this section forbids, and A LOT OF IT (mention: sodom). The god who told them not to lie with the same sex and not to wear two different kinds of fabrics (anyone up for an interpetive investigation of the text around that verse?) is the same god who claimed to die as punishment for all our sins.

One thing I like to point out is that the "thou shalt not" forbidding homosexuality among men is the only "thou shalt not" (i think) that ends with "that is detestable". I find that humorous.

tThuryl and others: I said that statement about the Kurdish genocide wrong, I suppose. What I was wishing was that the world had acted faster when it did happen back in the 1980s.

About the God discussion: I can't see all of it, (due to a campus blocker that blocks the STRANGEST things), but it looks like TM's a bigot towards bigots and also towards non-bigots.

I'm afraid TM's correct this time…

But I think ef's taking a bit of a universalist view of what scripture (biblical, non-apocryphal) is. My answer: Meh, what do I care what he thinks?

EDIT:
quote:
Ef sez: This is the official catholic canon, and is the reason why Pope Benedict feels that a dialogue should be started between christian and islamic clergy to discuss the very nature of revelation. Most protestant denominations have a similar outlook, though I know that there are currently (mainly american) protestant groups that disagree.
And that's why all catholics are evil TERRORISTSSSSS!!!

^bad joke

Not hard when I have a walkthrough, a party that's gone through it once, and…okay no I don't have the time. Oh, I suppose I MIGHT have the time, because the emulator I use has a rewind function that I've never used…never ever.

And I've looked at a spoiler for all the different endings…I know, I'm lame. Yay.

EDIT: I was kinda hoping some of the newer members were familiar enough with their heritage to contribute to this conversation. Shows what I get for having high expectations for youth :P .

Thanks TM, I was about to say…

We've almost turned Iraq into what Iran is now. Meh.

quote:
Aran sez: Non-interventionism is often a good policy, but not when lives and human rights are at stake.
This is my deal with N. Korea (and what ever happened about their nukes?) They actually have nuklear weapons in the control of a dynastic ruler who has earned the hate of the world. *Thinks about George W for a second* and yet I remain a political conservative…meh. Anyway, their egregious (spelling) human rights violations aren't in the news anymore.

I eat in excess of 3500 calories a day, and I'm 5'11" and 150 lbs (that's like 75kg, about).

I agree, but I wish there was a way to incite the people of Iran against their government. That would be the better way, if you ask me.

This was all the CIA's fault anyway, because of their first coup idea.

I never got very far into AtG. Or any of *i's scenarios for that matter. I know they're good, I just can't bring myself to do it. AtG was…I don't remember. I got past the first or second ogre mission I think, but I may have gotten lost after that, with respect to plot or no plot. Dag. Same deal with Spears.

I just recently got into Chrono Trigger. Spent so much time beating it in the last couple of days. I feel so empty now, because I've beat it twice and it doesn't feel like there's any more to do. (Cept maybe the New Game+ option.)

Off topic tKel:
quote:
There are those of us who oppose birth control by means of a technicality, that teknikalitee being that certain pills cause the death of an organism, whilst others simply prevent the organism from existing in the first place.
Basically, I have no qualms about preventing fertilization. Preventing implantation seems…iffy to me so I don't think I'd go for that. (And I've been tested by a pregnency scare before.) I know it's really technical, but I'd rather go by a rule than by no rule.

(And yes, we could get into a big discussion as to whether preventing new life from occuring is just as bad as killing, but we're not going to.)

Clashing ideologies? The only clashes I see are between the "liberal" west and the "conservative" west and the middle east/SEast asia with all of the West. "Conservatives" actually can hold similar values to the mid east, other than the fact that they believe that America is better than everybody and that they hate Islam in any form. Sad fact, that.

Unfortunately, people who think like that are probably never going away, given that they tend to reproduce.
There are those of us who oppose birth control by means of a technicality, that teknikalitee being that certain pills cause the death of an organism, whilst others simply prevent the organism from existing in the first place. Whether or not prophylactics (I don't even know if I spelled that right, I just wanted to say it) are a no no depends on whether or not you're a Catholic, neo-Pharisee, or average Joe Protestant. I encourage what Kel said, don't have sex…ever. That is what he said, right? Or wait, no, wait til marriage and use condoms if you can't help it. I'm walking what I'm preaching here.
