There's Realmz, which is somewhat Exile-like. I don't know if I'd classify it as a good RPG, but you are free to form your own opinions. —Alorael, who can't think of anything both similar in style and similar in quality off the top of his head. I have tried Realmz. The style is only vaguely similar to Exile and is much lower in quality. I personally enjoy RuneScape. It is an MMORPG rather than an RPG, but I still like it. Anyone that chooses to try it should be sure to add "archmagealex" to thier friends list. -------------------- Need a pet? Need cheap labor? Buy a Moose! Take the Personality Test! I know the cheats, and I know a patch that allows you to switch from 1 ruleset to another. -------------------- This is MY link. Age of Wonders - Zephyr, you are right. I've almost forgotten about it, but I once played a demo and liked it very well. What were those hobbit-like creatures called that raised eagles and could fly on them? -------------------- Polaris Posts: 1828 | Registered: Saturday, January 11 2003 08:00 |

Age of Wonders is more like a strategy game than a RPG. In my opinion, it sucks. Age of Wonders Demo It is strategy, yes, but also roleplaying. I liked flying on eagles. It is a game for windows though. -------------------- Polaris Posts: 1828 | Registered: Saturday, January 11 2003 08:00 |

AoW is for PC only. —Alorael, who isn't terribly surprised. After all, it has only been two years since the PC release. They have another good decade before they should think about porting the game to Mac. Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

Obvious first step is to play Spiderweb's other games, such as Geneforge and Nethergate. Then other games that I have enjoyed for Mac (not all are OSX, some are OS9 only): From: http://www.macupdate.com/games.php?sub=2 1. Dragon Alpha 2. Pillars of Garendall 3. Quest of Yipe 3 4. Legendary Lair From: http://download.com.com/3150-2276-0.html?tag=dir 5. The Dangerous Town 6. Quest of Yipe II 7. Cythera From: http://www.macgamefiles.com/detail.php?item=10511 8. Jewel of Arabia Payware: 9. Baldur's Gate 10. Baldur's Gate II From: http://mac.the-underdogs.org/index.php?show=category&cat=RPG 11. Legend of Kyrandia 12. Have you tried Avernum 2 and Avernum 3? Sorry, I couldn't resist being a smartass. BTW - Realmz is really terrible! Is there any point to that game? I also rather liked the Ultima III port for the Mac. Yes, it came out about 10-15 years after the PC version, but the wait was worth it! Posts: 186 | Registered: Thursday, February 27 2003 08:00 |

If you're used to the Exile interface, Realmz will seem like a slap in the face, IMO. Or worse. The graphics are smaller, and for some reason less sophisticated though they seemingly try to look more elaborate. I might have been less biased when playing it, but then, I had just played Exile 3 before that, and it was definitely a step down in quality. ;) -------------------- "And all should cry, Beware, Beware! Well, they're not RPGs, but Escape Velocity and EV Nova from Ambrosia (www.ambrosiasw.com) are really good too. I also happen to like CM4, from Feral (www.feral.co.uk), but that's an acquired taste. -------------------- "At times discretion should be thrown aside, and with the foolish we should play the fool." - Menander ==== Drakefyre's Demesne - Vahnatai Did Do It desperance.net - We're Everywhere The Arena - God Will Sort The Dead ==== You can take my Mac when you pry my cold, dead fingers off the mouse! If you want anything with a good storyline and less hack'n'slashing, try Ultima 5, 6, 7 or 7.5. Also, Fallout and Daggerfall are good. For pure hacking I would recommend some NetHack clone, maybe Eagle's Eye or ADOM (or of course, NetHack). Or, Might 'n Magic 3 and up, or Eye of the Beholder 1 or 2, or Lands of Lore. Note that most of these are turn-based. Yes, I realize that all of these are commercial. But they're so old you can probably find them on abandonware sites. -------------------- Freude, schöner Götterfunken, Tochter aus Elysium, Wir betreten feuertrunken, Himmlische, dein Heilighthum! I think the Best RPG that's not by Spiderweb and isn't an Ultima would be Arcanum. Came out in 2001, don't think it had much commercial success despite being named best RPG of the year by some magazine or other... (costs 'bout $10 in stores around here, and that's the original version, not some 'classics' budget re-release.) You move around in real-time, but can switch between real-time and turn-based combat. It deals with a world of magic moving towards an industrial revolution so you'll meet some high-tech items as well as loads of spells. Age of Wonders is a pretty good game, but a fantasy setting does not make it an RPG. Yes, Arcanum is a great game. Other great RPG's are the Baldur's Gate series, the Fallout series, Planescape: Torment... Also, if you have registered BoE, there are tons of good scenarios out there. You can't have played them all. :P And Emjay, welcome to Spiderweb! We need more Swedes here. ;) -------------------- Who was born in a house full of pain Who was trained not to spit in the fan Who was told what to do by the man Who was broken by trained personnel Who was fitted with collar and chain Who was given a pat on the back Who was breaking away from the pack Who was only a stranger at home Who was ground down in the end Who was found dead on the phone Who was dragged down by the stone Posts: 595 | Registered: Tuesday, March 12 2002 08:00 |

I strongly reccomend Baldurs Gate 2. (not 1!!) It has the same viewpoint as the Avernum series, and it has some multiplayer support. -------------------- The Automated Ad-Free Horizontal-Scrollbar-Proof Blades of Avernum Script Archive Creature Scripts | Terrain Scripts | Cool Stuff | Dialogue Scripts Posts: 612 | Registered: Saturday, October 13 2001 07:00 |
