I've been told that I vaguely resemble the Avalokiteshvara...I suppose there's a certain resemblance, if you picture it with bushy red hair...

The entire point of the Avalokiteshvara being that it's hermaphroditic, I'm not sure whether the comment was complimentary or insulting.

EDIT: There are actually many Avalokiteshvara. Apparently, I resemble a certain one which I can't seem to find a picture of. There's a poster of it hanging in my history teacher's classroom...I'll keep looking, but as I don't know how to post an image anyway, I imagine you'll just have to stick with your mental images of me.

There are no pictures of me on the internet, or at least none that I allowed people to take, and by the way if I find out any of the people on these boards had anything to do with them I WILL sue for defamation! (I'm not entirely joking but..)

Hmm. Well, if I'm correct, and there's a very good chance I may not be, because I don't pay attention in history class, Avalokiteshvara are the Buddhist equivalent of saints, people who are capable of and ready to attain enlightenment but deliberately delay their progression to Nirvana in order to help others achieve enlightenment, and then when everyone has become enlightened they can all continue to Nirvana.

That's the definition of a bodhisattva, anyway. What I'm not sure about is whether Avalokiteshvara is synonymous with bodhisattva. I think it is...

Anyway, since bodhisattva/Avalokiteshvara are so saintly and selfless, there are a lot of statues and paintings and suchlike of them, and there's one statue in particular of a certain Avalokiteshvara that I apparently resemble.

One of the traits of Avalokiteshvara is that a lot of them seem to have a thousand arms. The Avalokiteshvara in question, the one I resemble, has no arms. This is one of the ways in which I do not resemble it, as I do indeed have arms.

Avalokiteshvara is the buddha of the future, the enlightened one to come. Sort of like the messiah of the jews, or the second coming for christians.

Man, I know people who go to the same univercity as her...You know the world is too small when you accidently run into internet friends in real life...

Huh? That's not my real name you know. . .and if your so all-knowing, what University do I go to?

I was largely under the impression you lived on Vancouver Island, which lead me to believe you went yo UVIC and I seem to remember you mentioning it too. Correct me if I'm wrong, but if so I do infact have several contacts within that school, which further proves my point the world is too small when you go to a message board and see someone who had been to your hometown and met your mother. DEATH TO THEE!

Yeah, but there is more than one University on Vancouver Island. You will have to further clarify, "been to your hometown and met your mother".

All righty. The statue of the Avalokiteshvara that I resemble if you squint and picture it with bushy red hair and a shirt.

... just add bushy, red hair and a shirt... hmmm... You seem kind of pale. I would suggest getting away from your computer and out into the sun more often.
