Those poor judges. They have to deal with so much unconscious incompetence. I bet most people who attempt at that show don't even know what an octave is.

I studied CS and Math in college. As for other interests, I like reading historical novels.

My mother has told me many stories of when she worked at a teen psyche hospital in Seattle. I have a vague idea what it's like. ;)

Solidarity my white brutha!

I've got a BS in Forestry. Actually, I don't even think I have the paper anymore. Odd. Most of my life has been spent doing things other than forestry, currently I am self employed, doing pretty much anything I care to, when I care to.

What are you planning to do with your physics Ph.D., Randomizer? What areas have you worked in?

macdude, I find your final line to have a fair bite to it. :( Personally, I prefer the limb donation payment plan.

Mr. Trinity, bravo for insulting a commanding officer!

Mr. Excalibur, as much as you may rise above the skill of the average contestant of American Idol, it strikes me that perhaps Mr. Salmon was being facetious in suggesting it in the first place. Of course, I maintain knowing nothing.

And as always, Mr. Thuryl's puns are priceless. (Fortunately.)

I just realised that despite all my posts in this topic, I haven't yet said what I'm doing. I'm in the middle of a Master of Arts (Science, Communication and Society), which is about as confusing as it sounds. I'm also doing an internship copy-editing articles for a small literary/political journal based out of a local university. This is pretty much my dream job, as it allows me to read a bunch of interesting stuff whilst engaging in unfettered pedantry.

Alas, most jobs don't let you indulge in unfettered pedantry. Governor of New York, for instance.

BS in Mathematics and Computer Science. I'd like to get a PhD one day, but that doesn't look like it's going to happen anytime soon...

My degree in, uh, HEPAC *) technology will be complete this spring. My actual studies ended two weeks ago; now I'm on my apprenticing period. I'll avoid further education for at least until I'm out of the army.

I work in long term residential treatment, which is pretty different from a psychiatric hospital. Although the extreme moments, and therefore the memorable stories, are probably not that different. For example, on Tuesday I got punched in the eye.

I got the reference!

What I major in depends on what college I get into. I found a college that would accept me a year early(I'm interviewing there this weekend) and I would probably major in French or Linguistics there. Either after that or if I don't get in there, I plan to major in Music Performance on my cello.

I feel as though you didn't get the reference. The reference was to a song, "Pomp and Circumstance". So tell me, did you get that reference?

Maybe the pun wasn't so dignified after all...

Anyway, environmental studies major. But Dikiyoba is taking next year off to work and travel around. Mostly work, in all probability.

I believe, Mr. Ratt, that there is something particularly meaning about basing one's own arrogance off of another's cheap puns. Or perhaps I should be more explicit as to whom I'm referencing.

I letting my PhD gather dust. I did some work in micro-cavity enhancement of non-linear light and became convinced that classical theory was missing something. It took me years to figure out I could use semi-classical theory instead of full quantum mechanical to solve the problem and never got around to doing the calculations. Too much thought into how to find a simple way to show that terms were zero without major calculations.

This probably stems from my frustrations at writing computer code for other people's problems instead of my own. I got listed in some papers in polarized light scattering for computer support. I'm still mad that I got called a thoeretician for that when I'm an experimentalist.
