It took me years to figure out I could use semi-classical theory instead of full quantum mechanical to solve the problem and never got around to doing the calculations. Too much thought into how to find a simple way to show that terms were zero without major calculations. This probably stems from my frustrations at writing computer code for other people's problems instead of my own. I got listed in some papers in polarized light scattering for computer support.
