I (finally) bought the latest Nightwish album last week. And I can't get enough of it. And realizing that I've already listened to both discs eight times through in the span of less than a week made me think... wow, this music thing is addicting. And then I wondered what other music could be addicting. So. I'm making my first poll topic. :D 1. What was the last song you listened to? 2. What was the last song / album you bought? 3. What is your favorite song? 4. What is your favorite record album? 5. What song do you think has the best music? 6. What song do you think has the best lyrics? 7. Who is your favorite composer? 8. Who is your favorite lyricist? 9. Who is your favorite performing artist? 10. Is there any song that has ever just hit you like a brick? What was it, and why? 11. What is that one song that you just can't stand? 12. What artist do you absolutely hate? 13. If a group of SpiderWebbers got together to start a band, who would be in it, and what genre would they perform? -------------------- -Lenar Labs What's Your Destiny? 1. What was the last song you listened to? Beatles - A Day in the Life 2. What was the last song / album you bought? I purchased several albums at the same time: Simon and Garfunkel's Greatest hits, 1, Rubber Soul, Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, and Let it Be. 3. What is your favorite song? A stalemate between Golden Slumbers, The Long and Winding Road, Across the Universe, I Want You(She's So Heavy) and A Day in the Life. 4. What is your favorite record album? Beatles - Abbey Road 5. What song do you think has the best music? Refer to question three. 6. What song do you think has the best lyrics? Beatles - Across the Universe 7. Who is your favorite composer? The Beatles 8. Who is your favorite lyricist? Paul McCartney 9. Who is your favorite performing artist? Paul McCartney (He performs in casinos on occasion) 10. Is there any song that has ever just hit you like a brick? What was it, and why? A certain piano sonata by Rachmoninoff (I can't remember the name of it) - It's quite beautiful 11. What is that one song that you just can't stand? John Lennon - Imagine (I must admit it has good piano) 12. What artist do you absolutely hate? ICP - One of my friends shoved it in my ear once, had a headache for the rest of the day. I also agree with GoldenKing. 13. If a group of SpiderWebbers got together to start a band, who would be in it, and what genre would they perform? 1. What was the last song you listened to? This Suffering by Billy Talent. I've been listening to that particular album a lot lately. 2. What was the last song / album you bought? 23 by Blonde Redhead (the album, I don't buy separate songs) 3. What is your favorite song? Don't really have one, depending on my mood there are a number of songs that make me fidget in an awkward manner, reminiscent of dancing. 4. What is your favorite record album? This also varies depending on mood. But I'll just say something here: The Holy Bible by Manic Street Preachers 5. What song do you think has the best music? I apparently go for loud drumming and gritty guitar. 6. What song do you think has the best lyrics? Once again, varies depending on mood. I'll say Walk Away by Bad Religion. 7. Who is your favorite composer? Oh, I don't know. 8. Who is your favorite lyricist? Probably Greg Graffin. 9. Who is your favorite performing artist? I haven't really gone to that many concerts, so I'll just answer this with: That one band me and my friends go listen to every now and then. 10. Is there any song that has ever just hit you like a brick? What was it, and why? Probably a few. Usually when the lyrics relate to whatever I'm going through at the time, I stop and listen. 11. What is that one song that you just can't stand? No specific song, though I try to avoid modern R&B, pop and rap as much as possible. 12. What artist do you absolutely hate? No hate here, mainly because I've been reasonably successful in avoiding the annoying ones. 13. If a group of SpiderWebbers got together to start a band, who would be in it, and what genre would they perform? From what I've gathered, there are a lot of marching band members, both past and present, on the boards, as well as friends of classical music. So I assume they'd get together to perform some weird neo-classical music that I wouldn't want to hear. Posts: 353 | Registered: Monday, January 9 2006 08:00 |

Omitted questions I didn't feel like answering. 1. What was the last song you listened to? "Yoshimi vs. the Giant Pink Robots" by The Flaming Lips 2. What was the last song / album you bought? Bought? Probably Green Day's "American Idiot" 3. What is your favorite song? Currently? "Girl in the Room" by Flight of the Conchords. Ev4r? Probably "Lithium" by Nirvana. This is a tough question. 4. What is your favorite record album? Weezer's blue album. 5. What song do you think has the best music? Currently, I've been enjoying "Scenic World" (the instrumental, not synthesized version) by Beirut. I also really like "Two Step" by Dave Matthews Band. I don't think there's any one song that qualifies, though. In most cases there are one or two great moments in any given good song. For example, I think the best intro ever is in "Crazy Train" by Ozzy. 6. What song do you think has the best lyrics? Right now that's the aforementioned "Girl in the Room." 10. Is there any song that has ever just hit you like a brick? What was it, and why? That I was blown away by? "Lithium" by Nirvana, I think for the sound of it - the way it resonated in my ears back in high school was intoxicating. Best listened to on headsets or in a car with a great stereo. 11. What is that one song that you just can't stand? "Music for a Found Harmoneum," or whatever that one tune is. My wife loves playing it over and over, and it drives me insane. Also, "No Scrubs" by TLC got WAY too much air time the spring/summer it came out. 12. What artist do you absolutely hate? I don't really hate any one artist. Probably some R&B guy, or contemporary country singer, or something. I feel real, real sorry for Britney Spears, but that doesn't come out of hate. I guess I'm not crazy about Stone Temple Pilots - I thought their music was a little too derived from Pearl Jam, but not as good, and that's saying something. -------------------- In today’s America, there are more World of Warcraft players than farmers. I believe you mean "Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots Pt. 1"... quite a stellar piece of music. 1. What was the last song you listened to? Pavement, "Carrot Rope" 2. What was the last song / album you bought? M83, Dead Cities, Red Seas & Lost Ghosts 3. What is your favorite song? Ridiculous question. Um... Prick, "Communique" 4. What is your favorite record album? Stereolab, Margerine Eclipse ...hands down. 7. Who is your favorite composer? As far as people traditionally referred to as composers go, Bartok. 12. What artist do you absolutely hate? Coldplay. -------------------- Slarty vs. Desk • Desk vs. Slarty • Timeline of Ermarian • G4 Strategy Central "Making poorly-sourced claims is not the same as determining something." 1. What was the last song you listened to? The Arrogant Worms birthday song. Unsurprisingly, a birthday was involved. 2. What was the last song / album you bought? Rameau - Une symphonie imaginaire 3. What is your favorite song? I plead the Fifth. This very much depends on mood and what I'm doing. 4. What is your favorite record album? See 2. 5. What song do you think has the best music? See 3. 6. What song do you think has the best lyrics? I don't do lyrics, generally. I'm impressed by "Age of False Innocence" purely on the basis of amusement at power metal about Galileo. 7. Who is your favorite composer? You might reasonably guess Rameau from 2 and 4, but Bach and Vivaldi edge him out, perhaps simply because I know (and have) so much more by them. 8. Who is your favorite lyricist? Tom Lehrer, perhaps. Or the Capitol Steps! 9. Who is your favorite performing artist? Leon Fleischer, I think. Maybe Dan Laurin or Marion Verbruggen, but both of them get added respect for being fun and witty people in addition to being great musicians. 10. Is there any song that has ever just hit you like a brick? What was it, and why? Lots of songs have hit me like bricks straight to the eardrums. This is mostly due to excessive volume, not meaning (or lack thereof). A particular Fritz Kreisler's andante doloroso deserves recognition here as well. 11. What is that one song that you just can't stand? Just one? I'll get back to you after excising several hundred others from existence. 12. What artist do you absolutely hate? I hate the art, not the artist. 13. If a group of SpiderWebbers got together to start a band, who would be in it, and what genre would they perform? It would be large, amorphous, and eclectic. It would involve piano, guitar, zither, recorder, drums, trumpet, saxaphone, and theremin. It would be majestic and glorious and baffling. —Alorael, who suggests a single Spiderweb musical piece to start with. How about 9 Variations on a Theme of Point B? A note to metal amateurs; Iron Maiden is very good, and I love Nightwish too. 1. What was the last song you listened to? Nuerstart, by Nevada Tan, a cool German band. 2. What was the last song / album you bought? The Tokio Hotel album, Scream. 3. What is your favorite song? Depends. Right now I'm hovering between the forementioned Nuerstart, Sorry, Blame it on Me by Akon, Way I Are by Timbaland, Nemo by Nightwish and many different Iron Maiden songs. 4. What is your favorite record album? Dance of Death, by Iron Maiden 5. What song do you think has the best music? I like so many... 6. What song do you think has the best lyrics? A couple Youngblood Brass Band songs. 7. Who is your favorite composer? Dvorák. 8. Who is your favorite lyricist? I forget his name at the moment, but the rapper from Youngblood Brass Band. 9. Who is your favorite performing artist? No idea, so many to choose from. 10. Is there any song that has ever just hit you like a brick? What was it, and why? Nuerstart. The theme is just soo great! 11. What is that one song that you just can't stand? Barbie Girl. It sticks in your head and poisons your way of thinking! 12. What artist do you absolutely hate? None in particular. 13. If a group of SpiderWebbers got together to start a band, who would be in it, and what genre would they perform? I haven't the faintest idea who would be in the band, but it wouldn't be of any genre that has yet been named. 1. What was the last song you listened to? Apparently (according to my iTunes) it was "Supermassive Black Hole" by Muse. 2. What was the last song / album you bought? "Ghost Opera," Kamelot. 3. What is your favorite song? It was "Astronomy" by Blue Oyster Cult (Metallica's cover was good, but not as good). Then it was "Holiday" by Green Day. Now it's probably some Kamelot song, but I can't seem to choose one. "Moonlight," maybe. 4. What is your favorite record album? Was "Use Your Illusion I" by Guns N' Roses. Now probably Kamelot's "The Black Halo." Not that I ever listen to albums in their entirety anymore. 5. What song do you think has the best music? The general sound of "Moonlight" by Kamelot is unlike anything else I've ever heard, and damn, it's cool. 6. What song do you think has the best lyrics? First one that comes to mind is "Jesus of Suburbia" by Green Day. 7. Who is your favorite composer? ... 8. Who is your favorite lyricist? I think Alo has it on this one. No one did amazing, amazing lyrics the way that Tom Lehrer did. And for the very best bad lyrics, it has to be a tie between "Macarthur Park" and "Muskrat Love." 9. Who is your favorite performing artist? The best concert I've been to (out of not many) was Green Day on the American Idiot tour. Individual YouTube clips of Kamelot in concert make me really really want to go to one of their shows, but they haven't been here in a while. But the best live show I've ever seen a video of was Nirvana's Unplugged. (Pink Floyd's live version of The Wall takes a close second.) 10. Is there any song that has ever just hit you like a brick? What was it, and why? Dream Theater's "Pull Me Under," if only for the part that begins, "Watch the sparrow falling...." 11. What is that one song that you just can't stand? [and] 12. What artist do you absolutely hate? Oh god, so many. Let me confine myself to my own genre (rock/metal). Pretty much anything by Nickelback post-"Leader of Men". Pretty much anything by Staind post-"Mudshuvel." Anything by Creed post-"My Own Prison." These were all bands that were okay when they very first started out and began to suck horribly when they became popular. 13. If a group of SpiderWebbers got together to start a band, who would be in it, and what genre would they perform? I don't know, but it would be terrible and I would never listen to it. :P -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. 1. What was the last song you listened to? Detonation, by Trivium *melts away* 2. What was the last song / album you bought? Pablo Honey, by Radiohead 3. What is your favorite song? That's a tough one, because for each band I have at least three favorite songs. If i think hard I can say... that I have no idea. I can give a short list of what songs I love: By trivium: Pulling the strings of your martyr; This world can't tear us apart; The Rising; The Crusade; etc... If I go on I'll have a list of twenty songs, so... By Radiohead: I have Five albums of them: OK Computer, The Bends, Pablo Honey, Amnesiac and Kid A, and it's only Kid A I don't like as much as the other four. I think that should give a good picture of what I like of them. I think I'll stop now with this list, it'll be getting to long, since I also like Rammstein, Rhapsody, Apocalyptica, ABBA, Kamelot, Machine Head, Maroon 5, The verve and Wintersun. Besides all those, i've got tons of classical stuff that I love. Something that does need a special mention, is "Still Alive", a song sung by "GLaDOS" at the very end of the game "Portal", which is a hilarious and beautiful in a chilling way, song. 4. What is your favorite record album? This definetily depends on my mood, but for now I'll go with "The Crusade", by Trivium. 5. What song do you think has the best music? Oh god... Just look at question 3. 6. What song do you think has the best lyrics? Um... I have no idea, since I don't often really listen to the lyrics. Of what I can remember, though, I'll have to go with either Fitter Happier or Exit Music by Radiohead, or Suffocating Sight or This world can't tear us apart by Trivium. 7. Who is your favorite composer? Tschaikowsky! 8. Who is your favorite lyricist? No idea, I don't think I have one 9. Who is your favorite performing artist? Trivium 10. Is there any song that has ever just hit you like a brick? What was it, and why? Many, actually. No matter what the style is, it's often because the song is incredibly sad or packed with aggression, enough to make me stop with what I'm doing. A good example would be "Exit Music" by Radiohead, which is an extremely sad song. Something else is "Pull harder on the strings of your martyr" by Trivium. That hit me like a brick because of just one single bar. That is one of the most beautiful bars I've ever heard in my life... Same goes 11. What is that one song that you just can't stand? No idea... 12. What artist do you absolutely hate? Morbid Angel. 13. If a group of SpiderWebbers got together to start a band, who would be in it, and what genre would they perform? They would perform either classical or metal. If it would be classical, probably Nico and maybe myself, if it were metal... I have no idea. Maybe Kel? Tyran? Drakey? Kingy? I honestly don't know. EDIT: This post has become a lot longer than I wanted it to become, but oh well. All I wanted to say, is that I've been to "The black Crusade" just yesterday, a concert with Shadows Fall, Arch Enemy, Dragonforce, trivium and Machine Head. This really is a different set of music than I've noticed in past polls. Captain Beefheart, the Flaming Lips, Pavement, Blonde Redhead... plus, we hate Coldplay. All we need is some Sonic Youth and we can be the hippest art rockers around. But seriously, it's a neat change. -------------------- Slarty vs. Desk • Desk vs. Slarty • Timeline of Ermarian • G4 Strategy Central "Making poorly-sourced claims is not the same as determining something." 1. What was the last song you listened to? Me olemme myöhäiset by Viikate. 2. What was the last song / album you bought? Marraskuun lauluja II by Viikate. 3. What is your favorite song? There is no single song that goes above and beyond all others. And I'm not even going to try listing all of my favorites. 4. What is your favorite record album? As it stands, Caught Somewhere in Time by Iron Maiden is my favorite. As a whole, that album is darn near perfect. 5. What song do you think has the best music? 6. What song do you think has the best lyrics? See the third question. 7. Who is your favorite composer? Facing this question, I can only shrug unknowingly. 8. Who is your favorite lyricist? Currently Kalle Virtanen aka Kaarle Viikate, but this will likely change. 9. Who is your favorite performing artist? I'll lean towards the guys of Iron Maiden. 10. Is there any song that has ever just hit you like a brick? What was it, and why? There have been quite a lot of songs that have blown my mind. Not worth the effort to list 'em all. 11. What is that one song that you just can't stand? I have a selective hearing; all songs I don't like, I gladly forget. I'm not bothering to reminiscence music that hurts my head. 12. What artist do you absolutely hate? People who thought the Smurfs, or Ratz, or any other **** like that were good ideas, or participated in implementing them, should shoot themselves right now. 13. If a group of SpiderWebbers got together to start a band, who would be in it, and what genre would they perform? We should all get together and start playing cheesy power metal... in Finnish. The sheer idea is too hilarious to ignore. I don't know who would play and what, but I could lend hand with the vocals. :P -------------------- Life is a neverending carneval where everyone has multiple costumes.
