Each Spiderweb game has a little bit of music that plays along with the title screen, which also includes a nice picture as well. Which little theme song is your favorite?

Warning: I will say that your choice is wrong, no matter what you say, no matter how much of an opinion it is.

You forgot about Nethergate. That has the best music, but of the ones listed, Avernum 2 is the best. Well, the second best.

I did forget about Nethergate! Very well, anyone who thinks Nethergate's music was the best will be spared my judgement. That music probably was the best.

Hmm. Tough call. I haven't heard any of the Exile music. I wouldn't say that Nethergate is my favorite, but I wouldn't want any other music for it. I don't really like A1's title music. I really like A2's, though. I also like G1 and G2's music. And for some reason, I think G3's music would fit A4 better and A4's music would fit G3 better.

Dikiyoba voted for Avernum 2. When it doubt, always choose E/A2.

-X- chose Geneforge III. -X- WOULD have chosen Nethergate if not for the inability of SOMEBODY to recognize it as a game, or because of -X-'s newly discovered blindness.

Avernum 2: Yeah, clearly electric guitar and piano set a great mood for a fantasy rpg.

Geneforge 3: When I see the title screen, with a shaper and two mysterious creations busting through a door ready to launch their attack, I am highly let down by the lighthearted pipes and whatnot in the theme music.

Geneforge 2: My choice. Epic. It fits the title screen and sets the mood for the game well. It makes me want to wave my arms around like I’m some kind of shaper lord. Sometimes I do... and sometimes I am a shaper lord...

I said Avernum 4. There's just something about it... it fits the somewhat spooky theme for both the picture and the first quarter of the game.

None of the above. Only Nethergate's will do!

As it does with so many of these polls, A2 wins again.

The only ones I like are Exile III and Geneforge 2. For others, I turn the speakers off.

A2 is my favourite music mainly because it's the game I played first and the music I associate with Spiderweb in general.

the A2 music just went so well with the opening picture.
And I agree with whoever said that the GF3 music was strange. Not what you'd expect upon seeing a shaper burst through the gates.

I refuse to answer this poll on the grounds of game exclusion. Nethergate forever!

By the way, the intro music can be heard on my site here.

I'll have to go with the GF2 Intro music, although the Exile II Background Music is pretty cool. I'm surprised to see so many votes for the Avernum 2 one. It sounds a bit like the intro to a cheesy romantic song gone bad.

I'm in, what do we do next?

A1 and A2 sound like something out of a Dire Straits song (I think I've said that before). I wasn't aware E1 had intro music. I believe it's just swords clanging. E2 is just a short harp glissando, although I suppose it's more musical than E1.

I'd say either Nethergate or A2.

I wish I could put the Exile intro music up on my site. Does anyone know of a program to extract embedded files from 16-bit applications? I've heard the eXeScope can do this, but I can't find a working download.

If you're using windows you can use Polderbit Sound Recorder to record the music on your comp while it plays.

Nethergate by far, then A2. After that none of the intros really stand out in my mind.

—Alorael, who doesn't mind electric guitar in a fantasy setting at all. That little bit of music captures the caves' mood, especially that wonderful Chapter 2 where you're on your own and the fate of Avernum, nay, the world rests on your shoulders.

I think we can begin to form a theory here. Nethergate is a community favorite, and its music seems to be the most popular. Avernnum 2 is generally a close second, and its music is very popular as well. Could it be that people base their opinion on which game is the best on the music? I always knew you guys had terrible opinions, now it all makes sense.

Whoever voted for Exile III is the hero of the day.

I really can't decide. They all rock, even if they're only 10 seconds long.

But I especially love the melancholic intro theme of Avernum 2, and the Celtic-y music of Nethergate.

Avernum 3 and Blades of Avernum also had a nice one.

I can't remember how Exile 3 sounded, I'll have to try that again. I'm pretty sure there were no intro themes in the Windows version of Exile 1 and 2.
