I love all the Forgotten Realms RPGs made on Bioware engines: Baldur's Gate I&II, Icewind Dale I&II, and especially Neverwinter Nights. i play NWN online sometimes usually as an arcane archer named Ignatius Tyranicus. I play World of Warcraft on the Dark Iron server under the name Tyranicus from time to time. I still play original Half-Life as Tyranicus and every now and then Counter-Strike Source as Tyranicus as well, although I don't particularly like the Counter-Strike community. The Diablo games are great too. I presume this is a PC game forum, so I won't go into all my favorite console games. quote:While on a basic level, Bioware's games are turn-based, they are specifically desiged with a real-time mode overtop of the turn-based engine. So, while your attacks only happen every couple seconds or so, you have to always be in charge of the combat. it won't wait for you like true turn-based games. TM: The debate over whether hack & slash games such as Diablo can be specifically called RPGs is as old as the games themselves. I don't think there has ever been a satisfactory answer to that one. I'm wrapped up in World of Warcraft and my second time through KotoR2. Sometimes I boot up Steam and have a go at Counter-Strike or Day of Defeat (Source versions). But basically this is just holding me over until TES4: Oblivion is released. -------------------- DEMON PLAY, DEMON OUT! Posts: 1582 | Registered: Wednesday, November 13 2002 08:00 |

random WC3 campaign maps and DotA keep me going. CoD/UO and FEAR are also favourites. Then, there is the "almighty" MUD; (further oxymorons? :P ) Revelation - http://www.kaldana.com Other than that, I float a lot through games like -the HoMM series, -Icewind Dale I/II, -D2 (only in times of ultimate boredom, it overdoes the "hack and slash" concept, it really does.), -AoW series, -AoE seies, -C&C series... etc etc -------------------- A Sucaran Child is standing here. quote:"They aren't" is quite satisfactory. I mean, I will extend the gray area to FF games, maybe. Real time action selection isn't horrible when it slows down/stops when scrolling through lists of spells/items- the way I see it, it's more a device of determining who goes and when. (Although I am roughly a billion times more partial to the combat system of Riviera.) ... Oh, Riviera. ^_^ -------------------- * Posts: 6936 | Registered: Tuesday, September 18 2001 07:00 |

Bleh, Riviera kinda got boring. Plus you couldn't actually lose ever. You just could win less extravagantly. That said, the Baldur's Gate games avoid falling into the pitfalls of real-time RPGs in many ways, and are definitely true role-playing games. I'm gonna fly the flag for Championship Manager - and I'm sure Drakey will agree. Between Spiderweb, ChampMan and college though, I don't have enough time to start any serious gaming sessions. -------------------- And when you want to Live How do you start? Where do you go? I play mostly my old Diablo 2 and all newer FF games. I love Final Fantasy!!! :D -------------------- You know, why the Sliths are green - because of their scales. Maybe you know why some slith eyes were once red - ´cause the demons, which led them were red. But why are the eyes of the Slith Lord Followers red? Because they see the remains of their enemies always before the battle begins! Posts: 179 | Registered: Friday, November 25 2005 08:00 |

I've been playing Fire Emblem (the English version) obsessively. Don't take this the wrong way; it's only an okay game. But I have to beat everything I start, so that'll have been consuming my time for about three weeks once I actually win. -------------------- quote: Posts: 1115 | Registered: Sunday, May 15 2005 07:00 |

I loved Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind, and have been playing that again, for like the 3rd time. I also can't wait for Oblivion (as someone else mentioned before) as that game looks brilliant. Posts: 776 | Registered: Friday, July 4 2003 07:00 |
