For some unknown reason, when I tried to post before I decided I didn't really want to see what I wrote so I exited the window. It didn't seem to like this and proceeded to open 150 new internet explorer windows.

Anyone know why exactly?

IE hates you and wants you to suffer.

Alternatively, maybe you leaned on the keyboard and accidentally held down the key combination to open a new window.

150 times?

Unlikely. Maybe a dozen times or two, but after that your computer will most likely crash before allowing that much Keyboard input.

It's really not that hard to lean on a key so that it repeats a bunch of times, especially if your key repeat rate is at the fastest setting.

Of course, I'm assuming these are blank windows. If they were ads, then presumably some really horrible form of spyware would be to blame.

No, I know I wasn't leaning on any key. Also it was the page that it was taking me back to that opened 150 times so maybe it just didn't like me not wanting to see it and wanted revenge or something.

Were you messing with your computer's physical connection to the internet?

Was it *exactly* 150, or is that just an approximation?

It's just an approximation because I had my taskbar settings on not grouping and I closed about 50 of them and then I changed the settings to group and it was at 100 so I guess it was around there. I had to alt ctrl delete and end the process to stop the damn thing.

It's all part of the fun of having a WINDOWS computer. You never know what weird and wacky things might happen yet.

P.S. Have you figured out what caused the problem yet?

Why do you use IE? There are better choices.

It's also the default Web-Browser for Windows. Most people can't be bothered to get a better one.

Why not? Mozilla Firefox is free, as is the mail program Thunderbird. Then there's Open Office and The Gimp for graphics and design.

They may be free, but if like me you're on a crappy dial-up connection, it takes forever to download. Thats the reason I delayed getting a better browser. In the end I just gave in ofcourse, but still...

I don't know if you are interested, but you can get such programs from the CDs that come with computer magazines. You would have to check regularly, until you hit on something you want to have, and then buy the magazine.

Thats EXACTLY why I haven't got a better one. For all I really use the internet it doesnt really worry me. And I have only found this one problem so far, so thats not to bad considering some of the troubles I've seen with other windows programs.

lol, you gave yourself a black mark. :P

For me, I got MSN Explorer because the people at MSN told us to while setting up our Internet connection. We thought we needed it for the Internet to work, and it was a 25MB download, which took nearly 6 hours, and we probably never even needed it.

Oh well, we stayed with it, and now I've come to like it more than IE. But I've heard Firefox is pretty darn cool.

Indeedy. Writing this from Firefox after switching from nearly 5 years of Opera (six months ago). Never made a better decision, and Opera is still miles better than IE.

Firefox is indeed the best browser available to me at this point, but I'm holding out hope for Camino to surpass it for the Mac.

I prefer plain old Mozilla to Firefox. It's more stable, and occasionally I need to use other Mozilla Suite features like Composer (which produces about the cleanest HTML of any HTML editor I know of).

Didn't know Mozilla had that. Must try it out some time (so far I'm using FF and TB separately).

I have experienced this problem more than once. My solution was exactly the one suggested: I took 3 hours and downloaded firefox on my crappy dial-up connection. I like it's similarities to both IE and Netscape and it runs great.

Hey Safari users: is there anyway to get downloaded PDFs to open inside a Safari window a la IE? That's the one thing that annoys me about Safari.
