Kel, I believe he said a while back that the reason it's believable is that he thinks it's open about its faults, hence my example, and that its rules make sense based on anecdotes, to which some people (Alo definitely, Salmon maybe but I can't remember) responded by saying that anecdotal evidence can be found for anything at all, although I don't remember Stillness's response to that. It's still not a very good reason, but it's more of a reason than the reason you're attributing to him. Is the idea behind Discordianism basically that you should believe, not believe, and/or disregard whatever parts of the theology of Discordianism you choose and/or have forced upon you, and that you should obey, not obey, and/or disregard whatever rules of Discordianism you choose and/or have forced upon you? More simply put, is it basically a religion that is irrelevant unto itself? If this is the case, then presumably it would be possible to be both a Discordian and a Pastafarian at the same time. For reasons that matter and/or don't matter perhaps only to me, I will completely disregard Discordianism, in accordance with its irrelevant principles, thus both being and not being a Discordian at the same time. I own a copy of the Gospel, I just bought an eyepatch, I'm considering ordering an FSM symbol pendant depending on how long the chain is and whether I can get a longer one for free somewhere if it's too short, and I'm going to have ramen for dinner tonight. The Gospel, of course, is full of contradictions and blatant lies, as Henderson admits in the foreword. He calls himself a prophet in the foreword, but that's one of those lies he mentioned. To use an analogy to Christianity, he's really more of a one-man Ecumenical Council of Trent than a Moses. I hate when people invoke Occam's Razor as evidence against God. It's not a law of physics, it's a piece of logic theory. It says "Don't make baseless assumptions", not "Anything without evidence is false". The former is useful for utilitarian purposes and for purposes of debate. The latter is a logical fallacy. EDIT: Whoops. I just realized that Synergy didn't invoke Occam's Razor as evidence against God, but simply said not making baseless assumptions about the nature of the universe is good for utilitarian purposes, which is what Occam's Razor is. I'll leave my post in place anyway just for future reference, in case anyone actually does use it the wrong way later on. The FSM doesn't punish people who don't believe in him, for instance. You may go insane of your own accord when you die and realize the religion you worked to follow and spread for your entire life was false, but that wouldn't be His fault. If you're not a jerk, maybe he'd even help you out as far as insanity is concerned. The FSM, cheese be upon him, is cool like that. Don't ask him for any favors when he's drunk though. Another thing: If we did believe our hypothetical zoologist mothers about Bigfoot without the evidence I mentioned or some other equally convincing evidence, we would be committing an ipse dixit fallacy. Science doesn't work that way, no matter what religious zealots (I'm not saying that includes you so don't address that and ignore everything else) may tell you. By the way, Stillness, it's easy to fake honesty and believability. The Bible seems honest because it admits things, according to you, but believing or asserting things because of that is a common fallacy as well. I can't find it on the Fallacy Files (which I link to not because of a belief that it's an absolute authority, but because I find that it provides good proofs and counterproofs, examples, etc.), so I'll try to give an example from my own head. Don't expect it to make sense, but don't expect it not to either. I'm not good at explaining things sometimes, but sometimes I get lucky. Take it on its own merits, in other words. Before I give the example, I will, for purposes of this example, define the word "prophet" as "a being who delivers spiritual, divine, and/or supernatural truths from a conventionally imperceptible realm (for instance, in Christianity, God) to the perceptible realm (the world we live in and observe directly)." Let's say there's an ancient religion whose prophets tell us that it's an abhorrent act to kill any insect, and that you must carry a broom at all times and sweep the ground where you walk to brush aside any insects you might otherwise step on. Would you believe this religion? Now, let's take that same scenario, and add to it that the prophets admit that they have killed insects in the past, but that it was wrong and they don't do it anymore (as of the times of the deliverance of their messages). The prophets were being honest. Now would you believe that killing an insect is abhorrent, and now would you believe that you must carry a broom to sweep the ground you walk on? I didn't realize he was a missionary (he was wearing a business suit, so I thought he was some sort of financial adviser or something) so I told him I didn't think he was home and to come back later. The guy then walked up to me, a lone child, on my private property (not even on my walkway, actually into my back yard), entirely without my invitation, and started handing me all sorts of stupid propaganda and asking if I knew who Jesus was like I had been living under a rock my whole life. He wouldn't leave despite me telling him to until I took his propaganda. Stupid fricking Watchtower garbage. Ugh. EDIT: Minor typos. Stillness, the Gospel of the Flying Spaghetti Monster says the best way to get to Heaven is to be a pirate with appropriate boat and outfit, and that being a jerk (like insisting your way is the best way and saying men can have positions that women can't while not prohibiting men from having positions that women can have) is a pretty good way to keep you out of Heaven. Parrots are good too. Also make sure you eat plenty of pasta (whole grain is just dandy, of course, if you're concerned about nutrition). It's sad that you're so hell-bent on pushing your religion that you'll derail every thread that is even tangentially related to religion just to push yours. I'm not saying you have to be a pirate to go to Heaven, because you don't, although it gets you more on the FSM's good side. They're already playable, they just aren't included in the download. You can download them separately from TrueSite for Blades. How do you burn up or hoard fatigue?
