Religion is based on faith and faith is not based on evidence. There is absolutely zero evidence that god exists and that’s the way it should be. If you truly believe it should be a feeling something unexplainable not because some one managed to dig up 100% proof of gods existence. I personally despise creationists with a fiery passion of one thousand suns because they mix religious and science (faith and facts). My astronomy teacher is a Vatican priest. I asked him how can how can he teach it if it contradicts so many passages in the bible. He said that in his minds both are parallel lines he never lets one get involved with the other one. Science is for the portion of his brain that only looks at facts and religion is for the part that believes that there is more to life than meets the eye. (something seemed and felt so freaken right about that answer) Posts: 89 | Registered: Wednesday, March 15 2006 08:00 |

Wow this conversation has shifted off topic big time. I pretty much took every science class in my high school and teachers talked about the whole evolution debate A LOT (all of them were pro teaching them, but it was odd heaving my physics teacher talk so much about it). My question is why not add courses like theology and philosophy to the curriculum instead of complaining so much about evolution. I know I would take a course in that if I had a chance. Going back to the original topic a bit. Despite the fact that racism makes me furious. As long as the people don’t promote violence I cant truly be against it. (I am Jewish with relatives that were in concentration camps) I really rather have my blood boil kos of some ppls opinions than not be able to express mine (does that make sense?) The only way to fight racism is education and it surprises me that some members mentioned that their school didn’t cover holocaust (or Stalin). My history teacher loved to point out humanities (censored) ups. I think it should defiantly be a requirement to learn about all major violations of human rights. If we don’t remember our mistakes we are doomed to repeat them. Much like human trafficking had a chance to bloom when it should have been attacked with extreme ferocity ones first discovered. Hitler vs Stalin: I also happen to be a Russian lol migrated in 1997. Stalin is surely not regarded with highest respects among the “elders” in my family (or anyone else’s that I know of). The difference is that even thought Stalin had a much bigger body count he also spent a lot more time in power. On deaths per year in power Hitler sure as hell takes the cake perhaps even the whole bakery. Posts: 89 | Registered: Wednesday, March 15 2006 08:00 |

quote:i did play it, but by that time my mage was pretty much a mage/priest (and i had a priest :) ) so i didnt see the problem (exept for the INSANE ruby skeletons) I see your point, but you can always design a situation where the inferior fares better what i was saying is that mage spells are better rounded and can get you throught more things than priest spells. My main party (which i pretty much always use) does have a lot of healing objects (eyes of khoth & tons of elixers) maybe thats why i never really find priest spells that useful. Useful priest spells: heal, healgroup, dispell undead. Useful mage spells: dispell barier, haste, fireblast, ice lances, arcane summon, arcane shield (i am not sure about arcane blow) dont get all of this wrong i havent had a party with out a prist, but if i HAD to choose i would go with a mage. In A3 all 4 people in my party could cast ice lances and what that did was amazing for the game. I could destroy a pack of alien biests with out trying. I dont think any two priest spells combined will equal to what ice lances can do for you. Haste and Arcane shield put mages ahead of prists. In BOA one arcane summon (at high level) could beat the toughest fights!!! priests little shades are great support but they usialy cant make it in huge fights. I think what a lot of people are trying to say is that a good portion of humans has pointless sympathy. We help people that cant possibly help us. We waist tons of resources on disabled and mentally ill instead of using an 85 cent bullet and calling it a night. There is no true survival value in this! Absolutely none!, but we do it regardless. This however could be looked at as a “side-effect” of evolution. Those who cared about each other had a higher survivability probability (hey that rhymes) some one has already pointed it out. Let me put this in lame words: people who cared about people in a tactical wolf pack way bred and created people who care about ppl in a non tactical way. Both exist today. The reason evolution has not filtered out one is kos on the long run neither has any significant advantage over the other. (assuming of course there is no resource shortage) History fact disproving some points: during the reign of Ivan the Mad Russia experienced mad food shortages. There are many stories about a families leaving one out of their 3 kids in the woods because they could only feed two. Killing new borns during food shortages is not all that uncommon in other areas. When push comes to shove we can be a lot worse than a wolf pack when it comes to choosing who lives and who dies. About the zombies post, if anyone here disagrees do the same math if it was 100 or hell 5000 people and see just how true this is. Alone we are nothing but bold soft monkeys together we are the most dangerous predator in the world. Oh and about some one not helping you after you helped him. I am going to use Thomas Hobbes and his passage in Leviathan. I am paraphrasing here. No one knows the future and is thus uncertain of his own life. This uncertainty drives you to accumulate power. Power is defined as anything which helps you get what you want and power limits uncertainty . Thus a person would help due to the need to gain a friend and limit uncertainty (god I oversimplified this beyond belief but explaining this could be a term paper) edit: Typo [ Monday, April 10, 2006 23:00: Message edited by: rantalot ] Posts: 89 | Registered: Wednesday, March 15 2006 08:00 |

quote:But just because it is human nature doesn’t mean that it is bad or against god. Greed is a sin for Christians but greed played a key role in giving US such high GDP. The fact that many human impulses need to be controlled and or moderated is true! But attempting to remove many completely can cause disasters. Example: Catholic priests and alter boys. Example#2 US economy and profit motive. I would hate to live in a world with out gluttony, greed and lust. Think about it how boring and lame that would be! I would have never asked for a raise and would have never gotten all the SW games I have now lol. Posts: 89 | Registered: Wednesday, March 15 2006 08:00 |

1997-1998 i got a disc with some demos BoE was on it. I absolutely loved it. I got lost in other games later on (half-life, Diablo’s) but for some reason non of those games gave me such a long lasting impression as VoDT, I even bought the exile trilogy by mistake thinking it had blades of exile in it (not SW exile trilogy may I add, but its cool I sold it for more than I paid for it on ebay) anyway in 2003 or so I got BOA and then shortly after Avernum3, G3 and recently Avernum4 (I am on fire lol) I even thought about getting A1 and A2 but I couldn’t get used 2 the way characters moved (BIG SHAME) Kind of sad that it all started with BoE and i only own the demo :( Wow I did not mean for this to turn out this way…oh well. My fav game so far is A3 but I think I’d love the exiles a lot more if I had them…a little 2 late now. Posts: 89 | Registered: Wednesday, March 15 2006 08:00 |

Well this is kind of what happens in invisible war. Every race(humans) have a genetic potential limit. You can only be so smart and you can only be so strong. If you max those straits out everyone you end up losing a good portion of a person’s individuality. Think about it 6 inches 50 IQ points…why stop there? Why not go as far as you can? Well i guess you would want 2 stop when u reach a certain hight but the smarter the better as far as i see it. Posts: 89 | Registered: Wednesday, March 15 2006 08:00 |

quote:Dintiradan Why? Do our rights increase as we age? Do we suddenly, magically, gain full rights once the cord is cut? ________________________________________ Not exactly but we do gain rights as we develop. Right to drive, right to vote, right to drink booze. When a person reaches the age of 18 we give them the right to vote does this imply that their opinion is not important for the country as a whole before hand?...YES I don't care who an 8 year old wants for a president what is he gonna do base his decision on a pretty outfit. Pro-life laws do not oppress any specific group. Everyone knows that abortions are fundamentally wrong and they make a choice do it(or not). Besides just because it’s morally wrong doesn’t necessarily mean it should be illegal. I my self would never let my future wife have an abortion but who the hell am I to tell some one not 2? Even if my dreams come true and I become a rich ass politician this is still so personal and private for some politician to decide for you. I think the article is about people choosing a certain gender over another not about the legality or morality factors of abortions. Oh and we absolutely have the right to complain about India and have our opinions we live in a world where almost any semi modern country can start an ugly domino effect (a global one) by doing something stupid. A shortage of woman in India and possibly China can cause chaotic migration that could produce huge negative effects. Don't get me wrong migration tends to usialy produce positive effects in the long run but both of those countries have over a billion people I don't think the world is prepared for 200 million people migrating. They tried this in soviet union and it didn’t even put a scratch on the abortions performed but it increased the amount of woman that died in fact soviet union reinstated its pro-choice laws due to the overwhelming amount of fatalities of abortions performed by rogue doctors Expansion of western culture into those areas will eventually fix the problem but this will take a few decades. There is a cool game on this called Invisible War I think it lays things out pretty well. If every one is modified and has all the good traits (smart, strong, good immune system) we increase efficiency but in many ways sacrifice individuality. I am totally cool with the trade off but I can understand why ppl fear this so much. I am totally cool with modifying animals I am looking forward to a SW fan scientist making giant intelligent friendly talking spiders Posts: 89 | Registered: Wednesday, March 15 2006 08:00 |

Eyebeasts and Gazers I hate it when they cast the spell that drains your manna. It is absolutely devastating to my priests/mages. They don’t have any ability to effectively harm you physically (excluding A4) so basically they drain your manna and make you go in melee only. I never found much use for terror it seems like the monsters that I would like to cast it on are always resisting it. Posts: 89 | Registered: Wednesday, March 15 2006 08:00 |

I agree that there are some disadvantages in having unlimited arrows, but the pros out weight the cons. The only thing that would make me want them back the way they were is if they were weightless and something tells me there is no way that’s going to happens. I think someone mentioned this before but I cant remember who. It feels lame giving your archer extra points of strength only so that he/she could carry a modest pack of arrows. :( I hate the way the monsters are spread our in between towns. I like the encounters where they ambush you and flank you on all sides, but just having them proportionally dispersed and having to go into combat mode when you see them is annoying. :) It was great being able to order special items from blacksmiths I think I only got 2 things made but it was a very great addition. :) No frustrating terrain like poisonous swamps when u level up high enough all those things do is make annoying sound effects. :( I miss herbs that grow back I really really really do and being able to make potions my self. I actually liked this system in the begging but sometimes I really wished I could make an energy potion or two with out going back to town. :) Allies were absolutely awesome. The co-op assaults with the vanahtai on vanahtai were much better than the co-ops in geneforge. :( Why did vanahtai look so freaken huge they are tiny not bigger than you aren’t they??? :( Limited side quests for extra cash I don't think I ever had money shortages that bad in A3 or G3. I think some version of A3 side quests should be implemented. :) Unlimited arrows made me put a point or two in bows to 3 of my party members (mage was 2 weak). If the don't miss collecting the arrows at all!!! Posts: 89 | Registered: Wednesday, March 15 2006 08:00 |
