You might find them better. Considering our sole female employee is a short freshman asian girl (Err... no offense to short freshmen asian girls out there). If you want to see some oh so sexy geek pictures, I could put some up. Actually, I did that of my own accord. Although I am on the payroll aren't I...

Edit: If you must see the sexiness:

I like the girls at Nomox.net...

http://www.nomox.net/

They also appear to provide affordable hosting with friendly service. What a coincidence. 1GB for 6.50 per month with unlimited transfer? So sexy.

Mr. Procrastinator: Polaris (Look at my sig) is a smaller satellite community of Spidweb where many familiar people reside. There are less people to mess up in front of, and many are willing to help you learn the basics of RPing check it out.

Bad RPers tend to either be either too longwinded or incondiderate of others plotline. Or both. Perhaps coincidentally, I've noticed that people who post age and unnecessary physical (Or in some cases physcological) descriptions (Such as hair color) tend to be too longwinded or, worse, God characters. One always must look pretty before totally wiping out the pivotal antagonist of the story a few posts from the beginning. :/

Look, Alec, there's no reason to get overly worked up 12 posts into this RP. David's right, explosions and rifles dont exactly fit in with the RP. It's not like he was being patronizing about it either.

IC: 'Bartender!' Sam was not the Bartender, although it was certainly his bar, and he was happy to return to his old job, if for just a second.
'What can I get you?' Sam smiled politely. He didn't know who the man asking for service was.
'I'll have a (Err... Not sure what kind of drink would fit your character, Aran.)'
'Certainly' Sam prepared the drink slowly. He had not seen this customer before, but if he was a cop, he could be bribed off. Corruption was a wonderful thing.
'That'll be a quarter.' The man fished around in his pocket and handed Sam a coin. Although he had never been in this bar before, something about the man's face seemed familiar, and he decided to watch him. He sent the regular bartender for that side of the pub off, and worked it himself. He would get to know this man.

OOC: FZ, didn't you say there was some sort of gun control? So let's try to keep that in mind before we shoot everything. Plus that official guy was knifed in the back, not shot.

In a musty room on third floor Sam Freight read the Serendipity Herald. A new Chief of Police. His agents would have to look into this. It seemed that every story on the front page had to do with Sam Fisher's death. Even the new Chief was simply a reform shot into action by the incident. He knew little about how that man was murdered, although the reasons were clear. A hardline on criminal activity, the fledgeling gangs of the City despised him, especially for his hand in the formation of the Agency. As counter intuitive as it was, business had actually shot up not only for him, but for the rest of his speakeasy manger colleagues. He didn't know much about this new Chief, but it probably wasn't good news. He put out his cigarette and descended the stairs for a drink with his faithful customers.

OOC: I'm in the Moonlighters if that's not clear.

Naa, occasionally two compatible nerds meet, and then they disturb their friends with grotesque acts of nerduler sexual depravity.

If anyone is scared that RP dorks are a dying breed, start a dating service that matches partners strictly upon gaming/writing standards and see what happens.

It is actually sort of silly, if I do say so myself. My girlfriend (At the time, no prize for guessing why that relationship didn't last) told me they cost $11. Yes, that's one rich fundie getting rich. If you're going to make that choice, why buy a ring to show it off?

That's interesting actually. The abstinence thing seems to be a pretty large movement in the US. I've actually had people attempt to get me to buy 'abstinence rings'. Curiously David, do you have religous reasons for that?

Yeah, I rarely check Spidweb anymore. Nomox still technically hasn't launched, so yes, it was down for a bit, but I assume it's because my ever dynamic boss has decided that the servers needs updating or something. I'll ***** to him about it, but I don't think it will happen again. Tell you what, I'll make a deal. Everytime Polaris does down, I'll buy something for the Community. It shouldn't happen again, and if it does, don't post here about it! An angry e-mail or two is fine, but let's not form angry mobs.

Update: I screwed us all. I did about the most idiotic thing I could have done. When I was making the sample forums, I used to the same database as the board, and that totally and utterly wiped that MySQL database. Although most of the info is stored in the /boards/ directory, the important things such as posts and members are in the MySQL directory. I ruined it. Our host may have backups, but then again, they may not. This is all my fault, I destroyed everything when it was going so well. I really am a dolt. I can't be an admin anymore if I'm that incompetant...

I've e-mailed our host, it's his faulty servers that caused this, although like I said, it could all be temporary, and we could wake up tomorrow and it's all there as we left it. If not, then yes. Everything is gone. Calithon, weather baloons, PNN, everything.

I have some extrememly bad news. The forums are gone. I managed to get into the Admin CP... All the members are gone. All the forums are gone. All the posts are gone. In its place is a sample forum with five posts and one topic. I have no way of viewing the posts, but I have a feeling we were hacked. I have a backup of the SQL database, so I'll see what I can do. It could also just be a symptom of our host's affliction. My friend says that one of his boards had a similar problem, and they recovered. Needless to say, this is terrible. I've been very irresponsible about security. You can crucify me now if you wish.

TGM, I question your credibility on calling me a dolt and generally slamming Polaris. If I remember correctly the only posts on that forum for a few months last year were you, Wiseman and SM spamming so hard it got on the walls.

I wasn't installing anything new on the forums, I was infact creating a new sample forum for the new version, to see if people wanted it. I ran into about a billion problems. The FTP was almost completely unworkable, and I gave up and went back to the boards only to find out that it was down. I'm not a technician, and I don't know what the unintelligable error means, let alone how to fix it. At this point, the FTP wont even let me download the SQL and forum databases so I can do a hasty move over to Nomox.

The best I can do now is wait for the FTP problem to clear up (Which is probably why the forums aren't working) and then move our hosting to Nomox. Moving to Nomox shouldn't entail losing all our posts again, I've learned enough to move those over now.

I also was thinking of unlocking the ancient ezBoard we once had (Long, long, long ago) for us to use in the meantime, but that's been erased apparently.

Umm... Excuse me, but please don't judge so quickly so harshly. This is your first post. Many of the RPs currently are of bad quality, and could easily have been concieved in a preschool classroom, but that doesn't mean that there aren't good spots. Things aren't like they used to be, but they're hardly at barf-bag worthy level. Please reserve your judgement until you have seen a bit more.

Ruined RPs in General

For serious RPs, finding a balance is hard. Lack of control, too vague of a plot, to much structure to a plot, and hyper/godlike posters. Silly RPs tend to be fun, but they ride the edge of disaster, it's entirely possible for things to get too silly/get too involved with charecters/forget the plot (Around the Universe 2) or to have overcontrolling posters (Around the Universe 1). You'll notice that here on Spidweb structured RPs such as Join Us or Balthazar do well, while at places with smaller population and better RPers, the plot can safely be left in the open without worry of crashing and burning.

We practiced socialist trick or treating this year, one bag for the four of us. We happened to be trick or treating in a very conservative neighborhood, so the plan sort of backfired.
