The worst movie I've ever seen would have to be The Secret Kingdom.

I'll have to think on bad actors for a bit.

Not necessarily. There are other beaches, such as pretty much all of the ones in Deleware, where shipping lanes are close enough that you can see the freighters clearly from the beach.

Has anyone else ever had problems with dumprep.exe? It is apparently the process that brings up the "Do you want to report this problem to Microsoft" box when you have to untidily close a program. Every now and then, my desktop will slow to a halt just after I do that. I'll open Task Manager and see that dumprep.exe is taking up a few hundred MB of RAM.

Which game to play? in General

Very true, considering the fact that no other Spidweb game is quite as good as Nethergate. Avernum 2 comes close, but Nethergate is still better. That said, I myself do not care for the Geneforge games, but that is a personal preference. From what I've been told the 1st two are good, and the 3rd one is absolute dreck. As for Exile and Avernum, pick one or the other. You probably will not want to play both the Exile series and the Avernum series, as the Avernum games are merely remakes of the Exile games. I like Avernum better myself, but that's because I just can't get used to the Exile engine. My recommendation would be either Nethergate or Avernum 1 for your first game.

This topic seems to be reborn every few weeks or so. I wonder if this is the most common recurring topic, or if karma topics and surveys top it. Has Aran ever done a study on this?

Will you tally the posts from today as part of this month or next month? If you put them in this month, it will skew the numbers for both October and November slightly. :P

Btw, Aran, don't you check your guestbook? Respond to my question! :P

Yeah, ending svchost is not a good idea. Do you guys remember in Windows 98 when it was just the processes you could shut down, and shutting everything but explorer and systray still kept your computer stable?

I have never ever in my history of owning macs (and I've had everything since those old tan boxes) never once did one crash on me for no reason. Granted, sometimes I would push limits by running programs with known bugs, or altering programs like I'm not supposed to, but those crashes are to be expected. This new intel crap crashes games I've player for years, completely at random! Granted, since it is running osx, a program crashing merely means the program closes as opposed to the whole computer freezing (which never happens on any macs with osx ever to my knowledge) but still! I'm the Emperor! How am I supposed to put up with this?

What was the topic for this thread again?

Edit to add something relevant: I notice both screenshots so far have a measurement conversion widget. When will the rest of the world learn that the American customary system dominates your outdated metric one? Do you still think the world is flat, too?

The dual-core Intel CPUs are incredibly faster. Try doing something processor-intensive such as converting video and you'll see what I mean. As for program crashes, the do happen occasionally. Apple is still ironing out some of the bugs in Rosetta. Universal Binary programs run fine though, and most older programs have issues so rarely as to make it a minor annoyance. As for your measurement statement, please tell me that's a joke. The English system is what's outdated. I really don't know why we haven't switched over like every other country in the world.

I honestly can't remember the last time I turned off my MacBook Pro. The last time I rebooted was the other week when installing the 10.4.8 update.

What's the name of that widget that shows your system status, Drakey?

And I've hit that sound card problem before, too. But I think it has more to do with the fact that this computer is about 11 years old, and by all rights, shouldn't even be running XP, let alone XP Pro.

Actually, that widget shows me what's on TV at the moment. I can scroll down through all the channels. CBS just happens to be Channel 3 here, and Without a Trace happened to be on when I took that screenshot. :P

That said, I have been known to watch it from time to time, but I also like NCIS. I was also a big fan of JAG, the show that NCIS is based off.

Also, XP Pro's system requirements are the same as XP Home's.

I actually have had to restart occasionally in 10.4, as recently as 10.4.7, but it's still incredibly more stable than XP. :P

Of course, I'm one to talk, considering that my version of XP Pro has been running for a grand total of approximately 400 hours straight (16 days) without a single reboot or shut-down. Having a TVR doesn't help.

My desktop has been running for about 2 weeks. Of course, all I ever use it for is TV recording and playing games, and not actively using XP increases its stability quite a lot.

isn't the Google Desktop always on top of your desktop, though? That's the beuaty of the Dashboard. It's only there when you pull it up with F12, and it goes away as soon as you press F12 again or click outside of a widget. You can pull it up at any time too, even on top of other applications.

Well, why does one need empty space on their Dashboard? :P
It may be a bit cluttered, but I find all of those widgets useful.

Right-clicking always moves you only one space. Left-clicking occasionally moves you two spaces. That has been my experience anyway.
