And in that vein, don't post nudity, semi-nudity, almost-nudity, or anything in which hyphenated nudity could be reasonably inserted unless it's preceded by non.

—Alorael, who will, of course, post his usual picture of himself.

1. Show the shard to Rone or Correlea.

2. Yep, giving the shard to the right people gets you the gear to kill all three shades, which coincidentally makes the last fight slightly harder.

3. You get the same ending, but the text changes slightly depending on what you do with Rentar, the shades, and Dorikas.

4. There's always something to spend it on.

—Alorael, whose personal favorite is those wonderful but expensive skills. You know, useless ones. Maxed melee for the mages!

I'm unimpressed. There are no clever tactics there. It's a one-trick party designed for killing guards in the beginning, and it does it with ease.

—Alorael, who would be suitably wowed if that were a singleton, not four casters raining icy death on guards who never even land a blow.

When all is said and done, the Bible is a book. It may be literally true, as a disturbing number of latter-day interpreters assert, or not. It may be a divine work or not. But it's a book. Analysis of it is literary criticism. What other literary critics have the gall to assert that their understanding of the text is the One True Way?

I know the lit crit debates can get heated, but they usually stick to "I'm right!" and "you're wrong!" without delving into "everyone who formulates any conceivable position other than mine is wrong!"

—Alorael, who wishes he had the gumption to declare that he had received a new divine text in the form of Cliffs Notes for the Bible. Yes, God has acknowledged ambiguity and some errors in transcription and translation (the Bible as protein), and He has in His wisdom provided a new, clearer, and more succinct guide to goodness.

"Society" is not a monolithic entity. We may disagree with your society, or with the majority society of America or of the Western world, but we have our own society or societies. Even Spiderweb is a little virtual society.

—Alorael, who thinks any spiritual beliefs that are not entirely unique to oneself are part of a society. A religious society might as well, if that religion is Christian, be called a church.

Toys -> Rape -> Death Penalty -> Bible -> Hate -> Lock

Don't make it happen.

—Alorael, who won't lock this topic. He will, however, suggest that the discussion move back to more wholesome things. Things like rape and execution, possibly?

The folders themselves are the saves, and if you only have the temp file then they're still emtpy slots.

Save files don't transfer. I'm afraid you'll have to start from scratch.

—Alorael, who really wonders why that is. From a totally computer-naive perspective it seems like using the same format would be easier than inventing a new one.

If you really want to powergame, you can buy some skills with gold instead of skill points from a few trainers if your characters don't have more than a point or two in them already. First Aid and Spellcraft are available quite early, and Bows and Sharpshooter are available a bit later. The latter can be used to turn all your characters into passable archers, which means even mages make decent damage-dealers.

Because of the drop-off of experience from a given monster as you gain levels, you actually do quite well by limiting your advancement rate. Go ahead and give all your characters Divinely Touched, Elite Warrior, and Natural Mage! Or maybe don't push that hard, but they're all useful and the experience penalty isn't as crippling as it sounds. Also, nephilim make amazingly good characters. More archery!

—Alorael, who also sorts his items by type. When he has too many he puts them in various cupboards and cabinets still sorted by kind. Fun fact: he doesn't think he's ever picked up and used a stored item that wasn't a potion, and even potions get used on extremely rare occasions. He's mostly a packrat.

By leaders you really just mean trendsetters, and you imply that they're conscious trendsetters. But you're making a mistake in thinking that most people never do anything original or imitated. In fact, everyone does little things on their own. If there were no big leader up in front, everyone would just pick up ideas from those around them. There might be a little more meme-chaos, but life would go on.

—Alorael, who thinks far too much conscious manipulation and far too little unconscious micro-imitation is being hypothesized. Also, for an idea to be popular, it needs to have something going for it. You can't just cry, "Stagnation!" and expect the world to stagnate with you.

There are probably many literally impossible word pairs. You could have a contest to see who could get the most hilarious results from a given phrase, but Six Degrees of Linguistic Butchery would just end up being dead ends too often.

—Alorael, who can only suggest this comic as the ultimate result of Babelfish.

Points in any combat skills for spellcasters, Polearms for the sword guy, Melee for the spearman, Throwing for anyone, and anything that can be bought easily with money instead of skill points (First Aid, Archery) are wasted.

—Alorael, who also doesn't find a few skill points a compelling reason to start with a subpar character. Yes, the classes really are quite poorly made. It's like Jeff isn't an atrocious min-maxer or something.

Two words for you: Coriolis force.

WIth a large enough (and therefore low enough in angular velocity) rotating cylinder, you can get a good enough approximation of Earth gravity. The Coriolis effect is less than ideal, but it beats weightlessness.

—Alorael, who isn't so sure that full Earth gravity is essential to human life. It's probably very good, but just getting a reasonable percentage of a g is probably good enough.
Yes, but a "reasonable percentage" is definitely more than 50% and less than 150%, and that's hard to find. In our solar system, only Venus qualifies. Mars, for instance, has roughly 40% the gravity that the Earth does.

Cite please? Weightlessness is bad, but how much has the effect of 0.3-0.5g been studied? Again, it's probably not good, but it beats getting hit by a giant meteor. Or nukes.

—Alorael, who also recommends genetic engineering for improved weightlessness tolerance. Oh, and an extra pair of arms. That would be so cool!

The early installments in the series run on DOS, which means you can run it either directly or with DOSBox pretty much regardless of how old your computer is.

—Alorael, who hasn't played any of the games himself. Maybe he should get around to that one day.

The most elite unit available. Commandos, if possible. Whoever's most hardened, at any rate.

We're going to end up living in giant centrifuges. Either that or we're going to start smashing small planets together to get bigger ones.

—Alorael, who isn't so sure that full Earth gravity is essential to human life. It's probably very good, but just getting a reasonable percentage of a g is probably good enough.

Colonies in space seem like a good idea. Eggs in one basket and all that. Currently, however, I'd say research on the ground is more useful than things floating towards other orbiting rocks.

—Alorael, who also doesn't see why Mars makes a particularly compelling target for colonization except for being more feasible than alternatives. As a proof of concept the Moon is probably easier.

Level obviously depends on where you are in the game. Since how much you can increase your skills depends on level, those are all variable as well. Class doesn't even have any meaning beyond skill point allocation, and most people here use all Custom.

—Alorael, who concludes that maybe you should ask a more specific question. Give a point in the game and people can say what their parties look like.
