I apologize for having forced you to waste time and effort to resort to using a dictionary. :o I simply assumed that "pomp" would be easily identified with "pompous(ness)," although in the future I will make sure to limit my vocabulary to only the most user-friendly words possible.

I would not suggest this. There does not seem to be much of a point. Although if you are interested in scenario design, an original tale would be vastly preferred!

Well put, Mr. Thuryl. Then, I will be clearer: Some instances of pomp is more distracting than others. I hope mine was not, and you were merely informing me about this tendency in writing! Apologies if my bravado offends. I am aware that I can come off as being snide at times. :(

And you, Mr. Salmon, have a way with subtlety which I do not feel I will ever be able to attain. :)

What fields are you people in? (If not for some sort of degree, then at least what you pursue primarily in your spare time.) What drew you to those fields?

Personally, if--dare I assume--you would be interested to know, my main interest lies in philosophy during my spare time; although I won't claim expertise in the field enough to defend any positions. My feeble curiosities are always enraptured by some intrepid thinker who can expound on them, put them in context, and make them infinitely more wondrous. :) I also find that philosophy is infinitely more enjoyable when I am not burdened by a desire to prove one position or another. It allows me to enjoy the beauty of the arguments while sidestepping the pomp of many authors. I would be quite fascinated to hear what people in other fields make reading their literature more fulfilling!

The JWs are mostly tolerable people. I find that talking with evangelicals of any persuasion does more work for rationality than rage. :)

Are you attempting to coerce me to retire to bed? If so, I should regret to invite you that you will have to amuse yourself alone in that theater. It's difficult for a congress to meet quorum with just one member, though I am certain you are resourceful enough to elect an incumbent pastime in my absence.

Sir, I defer to your judgment of this RP, though I wonder what your second fragment is saying since it is not actually a sentence. :o

Is this RP just taking place in Avernum and Valoriam? Also, are there any current descriptions of the factions? Will I be taking over these Hunting people, or will I have to hack together a group of my own?

The simulation doesn't have to be entirely logarithmic. We could imagine some individual(s) overseeing the simulation, interfering whenever they see obvious signs of growth. (It's not too difficult to keep track of leading scientists within given fields occasionally to track their progress.)

I was under the impression that his RP was a joke-in-progress of whose punchline I was not party. My apologies. :o

Perhaps what Zeviz meant to say is that, perhaps we might be able to simulate a society before the influence of such high technology. While such a society might inevitably lead us to create such high technology anyway, we could easily imagine that societal engineers might prevent us from advancing technologically until our advances can be facilitated by the simulation. Of course, none of this answers why we'd be deceived in this fashion, but no Cartesian skeptical hypothesis has ever had to.

An RP is a play set in a theater of which all parties are aware. My thought is, if you want to play more than one role in the same theater--meaning these boards in this context--then you might as well improve your first role before taking on another. Most theaters of all sorts tend to be cluttered with one-dimensional characters who are boring to witness.

Why would anyone want to duplicate themselves in an alter-ego? It makes no sense--I would much rather be fully expressive within a single persona than play stupid games. Although I suppose it's not my place to question the vagaries of the internet.

I beg your pardon, sir. I simply try to be as gentle, sincere and direct as elegance allows. I apologize if my style seems too crass to be sincere.

Perhaps. "Facility of biology" as an awkward phrasing seems likelier than "faculty of biology building," given 'faculty' to mean 'division,' even though the latter is correct. I apologize in that case. :)

I gather you are Dutch--no worries, but that is not a "faculty," so much as a "facility."

Mr. Trinity, if I may take such liberty:

quote:
It is helpful to doubt everything once,

But it is more interesting to consider everyday objects.

With such objects, you can consider important philosophic questions without losing scope; questions like... (the ones you listed).

You will question the same important things you would if you doubted everything, but you won't have to doubt the thing you're considering.

It is useful to consider what's relevant to life because it is easier to concentrate on it.
I would say more, but I'm getting distracted, sorry. :(
