Enjoy it :) A good game.

One question, is anyone trying to play it on Vista?

Oh fun, engine work :P Just wondering if you fixed these bugs in the Mac version, Windows Beta or both? Oh, and I'm still out of town, so I'll be able to get to testing in a few days :P

Now that I've had a chance to play the game a bit I can see what people are talking about. Interesting. I haven't gotten far enough through to see any creatures having graphics from the Geneforge universe, but the obvious ones from the beginning don't really bother me.

I'd bet there'd be plenty of participation. I have no idea how the legal side of this (signing away rights) works, but I'd bet that one could work it out without much trouble.

We've had graphical artists adapt to the different formats of BoE and BoA, so I bet they could adapt to the Poser format (whatever that format is).

It shouldn't be too difficult, a signing away of one's IP/CP isn't too painful/difficult if the person is willing to do it. Also if Jeff is willing to add contributers to the credit page or an extra credit page people would be more willing to do it.

You wait until there is a news item on the news page that states 'application page now open for windows beta testers for Avernum 4'. You then go to that page and fill in all the info there, and Jeff'll get back to you if you get in or not.

Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on who you are) he may already have enough testers from past beta tests and won't need to ask for more.

Yeah, a few Aus and NZ fans here :)

My biased opinion would be to play thru 1,2,3,4 as the first three are great games and I can imagine the 4th will be good as well (having not played it yet). Obviously they are created so you can play them by themselves, but its well worth playing them all simply because they are so good, well worth the cashola and time :)

Once the beta testing starts you'll see a thread appear where people start guessing about the release date. Some of those people will know what they are talking about...and the rest will just be pulling their guess out of their...you know where :)

Lets all just pray that the porting goes smoothly and all the bugs are worked out early on in the betatesting! :D

We'll have a better idea of the actual release date range once the beta testing starts, seeing as that can take a number of months depending on a few factors including how smoothly the porting went and the game length itself. I'm sure we'll be kept up to date about how its coming along, but Jeff's been pretty good at announcing a release month and keeping to it.

Windows Beta Testing - Waiting for the email in Avernum 4

Yeah, this is the point where I go back and search through my past beta testing emails and work out which was the last game I helped test for spidweb :P and work out whether it was the last one released.

Oh sweet, so I was in the Windows Geneforge 3 beta, done so much since then :P will await to receive an email I suppose :) I have some free time.

Edit. I so take that free time comment back :P just got thrown a heavy load of work on incredibly short term notice :P won't be able to beta test for a few weeks lol

Demo restictions ineffective in Avernum 4

Umm, depends which sites. Obviously illegal sites don't :P I'm guessing that some trickle amount gets back to the developers, tho most will get mopped up by the publisher. It really depends on the agreement between publishers and developers to how much the dev team gets.

Windows Beta Testing - Waiting for the email in Avernum 4

I've been out of it for a while, been doing sound design for a indie startup here in Brisbane, Australia. We’re all not getting paid, but its great experience (and yeah, at the end there was a hell of a lot of testing to be done...and I drew the short straw :P ). That’s for people that wanted to know what some stranger from the internet has been doing for the last few months.

Am I to assume the Beta Testing call up on the 27-09-05 on the news page was for Mac users, and that the absence of more recent news posting regarding Avernum 4 testing means that the Windows testers have yet to be gathered?

Very interesting. Makes sense that it mightn't have been picked up as the beta testers prob get to unlock their copy of the game well before the end of the demo time. Obviously this won't be repeated again, and the testers will be asked to complete the demo or at least test the demo limits before moving onto the full game.

At least it doesn't allow you to play the entire game fully without any terrain errors, as that would of course be very bad for Jeff's bank balance :P

This'll be a spoiler, but what exactly do you get once you complete ALL of the shaper tests in that shaper testing ground (I don't just mean the ones on the left hand side of the map)?

I think I'll pass on G3. These really difficult areas shouldn't be plunked in the beginner areas of the game. That's just plain bad design, IMHO. Or, it forces the person to buy the hint book/editor just to get through them.

I like a non-linear game as much as the next person, but entering a "dungeon", only to discover it's WAY too hard isn't my idea of fun.

(I SPOIL THINGS)
Eh? I think the tutorial section is done well enough, and you can move through the game quick enough that coming back to do dangerous areas isn't really a problem. I would find it mightily odd if the rebels had attacked the island, and not left anything more difficult then a toothbrush behind.

I also think its Jeff's way of spreading the difficulty areas over all the islands, and the thing is you have the power of choice. You don't have to do these amazingly difficult areas the first time you come upon them, there will always be a way around, and usually you will be given a warning of how difficult they will be.

That said, I pretty much couldn't be bothered traveling all the way back to the testing ground even though i was a shaper. I had gone far enough through the game that I didn't think I needed what it was going to give me.

Oh, and as you may have noticed in another topic Alwan sucks as a follower.

My advice, IMHO, the shaper test seems to easier done with creations, so get a couple. and for other difficult areas, use stealth. Often that can let you reach a pedestal for example that makes the area a notch or two easier.

Yeah, mightn't be on the front page of the site, but in the news section already.

EDIT: It's only 6:20pm here in Brisbane, Australia, so we are patiently waiting for the clock to hit the right hour over there (seeing as its early early morning over there) for the announcement to come.

Hahah, I so didn't notice the forum header, thats funny

"Windows users: "summer" probably means June, give or take."

And I don't think anyone would flame you over such a sensible suggestion re getting a mac mini. I'm contemplating it now...

The Big Decision in Geneforge Series

Yeah, SoT did say that...

And yeah, the main problem is exactly what SoT said, that deciding too late means you won't be able to get high-end training. Which, believe me, sucks when you realize whats happened, and want to go back and change a couple of your answers simply so you can be taught more then a few spells.

Don't think you can be middle of the road in this one. A shame cause both sides have ethically dodgy practices that I wouldn't like to be associated with in game, let alone in the real world.

Spell Levels, How To Find? Help? in Geneforge Series
Warrior

I so didn't see that :D I'm doing the windows beta testing at the moment, might mention to Jeff that having all of the active and passive texts the same font size/boldness doesn't really work. It'd be easier if for example the 'Change Party Order' and 'See Abilities' texts where even just bolded so they could be seen as being different from the passive texts on the page. Thanks for the help.

Already tried searching for an answer to this on the forum, can't find any. This may be a really really stupid question (but I'll ask it anyways cause I need the answer), but how do you find out the level of one of your spells? For the life of me I can't find any way in-game to get a screen up or something that tells me what levels my spells are! I'm sure it'll be something really really simple, or it just can't be done :P Thanks!
