Hey people. I've got an interesting(at least in my opinion:]) idea for a scenario. I know that most of the scenario creators would like to create something completely new, and that in BoA scenario contest it is even forbidden, but hey. I would love to see a BIG scenario, made by a hardy group of people, who would be brave enough to be faster than mr. Vogel and create a sequel to Avernum. The action might take place in the subterranean part of the world, for example in the Great Cave(The cities localised in it provide some good ideas for quests). The events would take place about, fe. 200 years after the time of Avernum 3. There would be a short introduction explaining what happened during these years(peace or war with Vahnatai, Slith rebellion, blah blah blah). Think - creating such scenario would mean that J. Vogel couldn't use some ideas in Avernum 4. To climb the God... and make oneself the God... If someone would like to undertake such a gigantic project, he can't do it alone. Post your comments here, and maybe find some skillful people able to take a part of new world for themselves. I can't part in this because I ain't adept with the editor, but I can create graphics for the scenario. You are hardly the first to have this idea. It's a decent idea, but it shouldn't be done by a first-time designer. To the best of my knowledge, this resembles Spears in BoE, a classic which was Stareye's third scenario. And Stareye did in fact do it alone. As a rule of thumb (not a hard and fast rule): collaborations in Blades don't work. They either don't get finished (99% of the time) or are bad. Massive epic scenarios by newbies don't work. They either don't get finished (99% of the time) or are bad. A combination of both... well... it seems well-intentioned but ill-fated. I'd say any would-be designer should make a medium-length scenario before making a long one and should make a short scenario before making a medium-length one. You can skip one of those steps if you're a particularly prolific player and if you follow what goes on at the Lyceum, but otherwise, you're setting yourself up for trouble. EDIT: I can always use slith graphics. Anything. Sliths with swords, sliths with fancy spears, sliths with robes, ankhs, wands, anything. Dialogue pics. Anything slithy you can make (beyond color edits), I can use. About the group thing, what Kel said. However, if you really want to help out the community with graphics, I would say our biggest need right now is some GOOD Slith graphics (which, if of decent quality, will use in my next scenario). I'll work on it. BTW, I was curious - why sliths in avernum don't use clothes? Even if there was a dialogue box about "Slith chief in gleamin' and shinin' armor with skulls around his neck" all we've seen was a green bum with a spear. Other thing I didn't like in slith small graphics was the slith "hair", which looks like a punk iroquis or feathers on an antic roman helmet. Dunno why, on the char portraits the strange hair doesn't exist. I asked the question about the group thing in scenarios a while ago too and I still wish it was possible. But no two experienced editors have simaler enough styles to do a seemless work I suppose, much less three four or five. What might work could be a never ending scenario that could be like that story game or something. Obviously some parts would be lame and few parts would be epic but it could even work like some of the lamentable RPs that occur ever so often. Not that this idea is plausible, but speculation is interesting. The porting thing does not have to be done by the author but unless the author is not around then I suppose that the wisest course is too not mess with the scenario. Strictly speaking, it does not have to be done with the author, but any good BoE scenario has some fairly sophisticated coding that, by its nature, is uncommented. I would rather not see a scenario start in the caves but move forward to the open end points at the end of Avernum 3. The obvious open end points are 1) The imperial capital of Avernum, 2) The deep edges of the Vahnati kingdoms, 3) The caves of the Slith homelands. And possibly 4) And a new one a connection to homeworld of the Nephilim, Zyon, or a connection to the Vahnati homeworld.
