So... I suppose the First Amendment means nothing now. But honestly, don't the police (especially there) have bigger things to worry about than rowdy bar patrons in an adults-only institution? Like, I don't know, carjackers? Homicides? Robberies?

Thoughts?

This is kind of like police being able to pull over a car with no light illuminating the license plate. They only do it to smell your breath.

The government has no right to enact laws of such sort. An individual bar should have the ability to enforce its own rules. However, a pub should maintain acceptable deportment among its customers.

Heh. St. Charles, MO is the uppity suburb of St. Louis that's currently fashionable for all the white folks who feel the need to make the greater St. Louis area even larger and emptier. So don't take what they say all that seriously.

I say let 'em. Then maybe people will come back to the city. Or at least the closer counties. :P

If the bar has a problem, it has the right to throw anyone out. If the bar doesn't have a problem, why is the town trying to deal with it? If the patrons are a problem outside the bar, the police can always haul them in for disturbing the peace. If the peace is not disturbed, I don't understand the problem.

—Alorael, who can only imagine that some bar patrons complained that the bars are rowdy. The obvious solution, although apparently not obvious enough, is to either find another bar or drink at home. Honestly, why go to a bar if you don't like other people?

Whoever thought about that law must've been high while thinking about it. I can almost understand table-dancing, but profanity? Some bureaucrat somewhere ought to shoot himself to the leg.

Are they going into schools and using profanity?
No. They are doing it in an adult only place.

Unless some people are stupid, this law will be considered unconstitutional and won't be passed.

No, I'd say that there's a very good chance that this law will be passed, for reasons outlined above. It won't be enforced that heavily, is my guess.

Regardless, I still think they have no valid reason to pass such a law. If a person enters a bar, they should know the likely presence of drunks, much the same way a person would expect smoking in a casino.

I doubt passing the said law would decrease overall rowdiness in the first place.

In fact, the article seems to indicate that the law is intended to be selectively enforced. That's usually a pretty terrible basis on which to make a law, since it almost always turns into an excuse to discriminate against some group.

Well, if you want to discriminate against a group, making a law like that sounds like a good way of doing it.

You poor sheltered innocents just have no idea what real profanity is like. It'll blister your brain and make your ears rot. Even third hand profanity has been shown in study after study to cause cancer in aardvarks, but the hip hop industry covers it up.

Well, it's completely unconstitutional, and as soon as it's challenged in court, it will fail.

Mainly, I think these town council wonders just want to score some political points with people who don't even go in bars very often. It's pretty idiotic, though.

Oh, not too much. Y'know, the whole several relatives and friends being there doesn't really bother me at all. The whole 9/11 thing didn't really bother me either, I mean it's not like it'll ever happen again.

Right?

That's great. Town councils, on the other hand, are in the business of managing municipalities, and can't just drop everything to brood over the nature of the war. While their methods here in dealing with this issue are poor, it doesn't change the fact that there are very real day to day problems that have to be addressed - here, the matter of making sure that civic order is kept. I don't know about you, but I sure prefer attending bars where I believe fights are less likely to occur.

Just because people want to pass a "law" that forbids fights and swearing doesn't mean it'll ever happen.

We've outlawed weapons, drugs, and all sorts of things, but people still have them.

I don't think anyone here has said that it will work. I in fact said that it was unconstitutional. I really don't understand what your beef is.
