I'm just really curious...
How does someone make a moving image?

You Google how to do it, not start a thread about it on Spiderweb.

I don't really like to use a search engine because I'm never sure if a site is reliable.

And I didn't see any problem posting it here.

Where did this Goldenking - Iffy rivalry come from anyhow? Am I the only one who finds it completely obnoxious?

Site reliability depends on what you're looking for. History is questionable. Current facts are even more hit and miss. If you want technical information, though, the internet is just fine. If you try to make a moving image and it doesn't work, it's not something you won't notice, after all.

I think I'm beginning to understand a certain phenomenon: Namely, why some people insist on calling tech support with bewilderingly obvious questions or posting on forums when five minutes with a manual or Google would be enough.

They just cannot grasp the concept of a device smart enough to help them. It's a prejudice against machines. (You can tell I've been reading Asimov, again...)

Well, I can put your worries to rest: I have made animated GIFs with no other sites or downloads than the first page of the search for 'animated gif'. Among these several tools, common sense and personal preference will be enough to decide. The ones that aren't free have shareware trials. :)

I tried searching for what you suggested, and it didn't work. So is there a problem with posting how to do it?

It's called lazyness. Why think when you can get someone else to do it for you.

With something as basic as GIFs (not GIFTS), you would have to look through quite a few pages before you got any dangerous links. I have not verified this myself, but it seems logical. Doesn't it, Iffy?

Iffy, try here.
Link comes up on first page of google results for 'animated gifs'. I don't know why it wouldn't work for you.

Iffy, so is everything else. You have to take everything with a grain of salt, whether it's your best friend, us, or Google. A search engines results for something like this can be tested easily. Learn to become self reliant.

What does it mean by "gif assembler"?

Sometimes you've got to sit down, research, and figure things out for yourself. It's sad to see that the younger generations (including my own) have degraded to the point where if they can't figure something out in ten seconds, they give up.

Fortunately, there are always exceptions.

What? It didn't say anything about that there.

When a GIF is animated, what you see is a number of still images being displayed for a short period of time. A GIF assembler allows you to create a .gif from a number of (precreated) still images, like bitmaps or JPEGs.

I've used Ulead GIF Animator 2.0 in the past, you can find it and several similar freeware programs here.

No, it's just that not everyone can be an autodidact.

Crap, I guess I can't make a moving image since I would have to download something. Oh well.

How did you discover and presumably play Spiderweb games without downloading anything?

—Alorael, who can't chalk this one up to a need for instant information. The information is, in fact, instantly available. This more closely resembles some kind of backlash against the overwhelmingness of having instant access to too much knowledge. Maybe using others as a filter is a reasonable response.

Hmmm... this seems to have turned, at least slightly, into a rip on Iffy/society thread. Funny how that happens.

I can trust the site on Spiderweb Software. Other places I am unsure of.

Whereas that level of caution is good if you don't have virus protection, its probably a little excessive. You just have to learn what to trust, and how to tell when something's a little iffy. :P

Example: Limewire is not your friend, for although he will give you free music, he will attempt all sorts of nefarious things if you ask him for videos or programs. I learned this when I accidentally downloaded some viruses and... other weird stuff when I was looking for free games and music videos.

Right, practice makes perfect when deciding on trustworthy sites. My friend is NEVER allowed on the internet, so he came to my house and wanted me to goof off by typing in random URLs due to his deprivation in that area. I obliged, and first typed in ledzeppelin.com. When the opening segment (which was pretty cool) came up, he looked terrified and said, "Are you sure this won't release a virus and blow up the computer?" If he hadn't been shielded from the internet, he'd at least know how to judge and not feel frightened of it. He really doesn't get it.

But we know Iffy's on the internet a lot (don't argue/flame, Iffy, it's just a conclusion based on your post count and I know it could be wrong and impulsive). Iffers, you should just try to reason and say to yourself, "Is there really a point in putting illegitimate information about animated GIFs on the internet? Or packaging a virus in a downloaded GIF assembler? Who in heck would do that?"

Is this Iffy character a guy or gal? The sense of helplessness and the over-sensitivity make me think younger female. But I think I'm going to have to go with young sheltered male.

I must say tho... when I googled "creating animated images", I got a plethora of unhealthy links that were either pornography or a virus. Thank God for Norton...

Oh wait... No I didn't.
