How exactly do you become a mod?
I have been curious about this for a while.

My brother tried to type something here. I just erased it.

If you have to ask, then it's not going to happen to you.

However, to answer your question: When a mod retires, there is a great disturbance on the furum, and there is eventually an election where a new mod is elected to take his/her place.

Or atleast, that's how it happened to Arancaytor.

Okay.
I wonder if more mods are going to be added. If so, Dikiyoba for mod!

The UBB has a hard limit of four mods per section, so it's not always a trivial matter to add a mod. Sometimes it requires gladiatorial combat to determine who shall mod and who shall die.

—Alorael, who misses simpler days when gladiating was unnecessary. Once a conspiracy and a few knives in backs were sufficient.

No. Thurly was elected, then resigned. Aran was appointed in his place. Aran was not elected.

The addition, deletion, and merging of boards causes new appontments of moderators. Misbehavior from moderators can result in their removal from power, and inactivity is also taken into considerations.

Hey, don't make it sound like I changed my mind so suddenly. I was a mod for a couple of years. :P

Aran wasn't merely appointed.

There was a rigorous interview process that a couple of folks had to endure, followed by the unilateral decision the we sucked.

Aran was then chosen as being most tractable of all the available candidates. He has been a wise decision, for the above reasons.

Aran was chosen by popular acclaim and the fact that he programmed half of those who were then mods himself. Well, at least one, anyway. But to be fair, I'd programmed him, too, so I knew he could be trusted.

—Alorael, who denies all allegations of circular causality. He also now notes with amusement that all mods who were removed for malfeasance have been either banned or eaten by the UBB.

Becoming a mod is a very involved process where a member suddenly gets raised and is now part of the order. Then he or she has to deal with idiots that post here. You wouldn't believe what we have to put up with here.

Yes I do.

I am a regular member on here after all, and not nearly as noobish as I was on my first day here.

Another thing where if you have to ask, it's not gonna happen to you. Asking for a custom title pretty much guarantees that those with the power to give them will never grant one to you... except Canned or Banned, you know, if you really, really want one.

I recommend crafting a quilt and mailing it to Drakefyre.

Drakefyre's not into quilts is he? What a scandal. We should get him into treatment, somehow.

I mean, have you ever seen a man snort a quilt?

Closer to half a year. Mid-july to mid-march.

Alorael's modding was exceptional and took much devious conspiracy from the establishment.
Since then there is no pretence of democracy, and it all takes place in the smoke-filled gloom of the Moderator forum.
That's why we keep having to replace the Kwilts.
That's also where the sofa and the sandwiches are kept now...

It's always hard to tell when you cross the line from modding to augmentation, but the sickly green glow is usually a good indicator.

Hey, there were a few elections after mine. They just lacked the acrimonious Florida 2000-style ending. Still, there have been some good smoky back rooms. Logo vs. Lady J? Fun times fondly remembered!

—Alorael, who feels he should point out that his modding was not modding done to him but rather modding done by him. Do you ever wonder why everyone is Imban when they used to be Zxquez? You're welcome.

I think that makes the sign of the modding negative.

No, the sign would only become negative if Alorael were demodding. If he's modding, it remains positive. If modding is done to him, it's also positive.

What we really need here is +m.

I was just asking a simple question that most people know.
I don't see how asking this was such a problem.
