Well if he's not gonna use it anymore, sombody might as well.

Jewels - Who is quite glad that she skipped reading topics for a whole day at Spiderweb. The suspense of not knowing whether or not Alorael decided to leave would have been... unplesant.

Of the two I would prefer TM since he is more original and thoughtful when he wants to be.

You have to try for the easy targets first. Besides never go into a fight with a slith spear against a sniper rifle. You'll be shot down before you can close to melee.

I have no idea what just happened here.

I am aware that I have almost no inkling of who the man behind the curtain really is in the first place. For the most prolific poster here, Alorael remains largely enigmatic, yet among the most respectable and enjoyable of virtual persons present.

So, just what WERE you saying, Alo?

I am yet more baffled and disturbed.

Alorael, I'd just go away. We're all ready to post without you.

I knew there was some buried significance in Alorael's sentence "It's been fun, Spideweb." I believe now that he was saying that all good things, like what Spiderweb used to be, must end. I'm not sure if this is how everyone interpreted it, but that's what I got out of it.

The community seems to be an overall good to me, except for ET but then again no one can seem to find a good way to shove him back to his home planet yet, so...

Right, since I didn't quite say it before, I shall miss you as well, Alo. The boards just won't be the same without the imminent threat of being sniped.

Uh, thanks.

To clarify any mysteries, I was impressed by the accidental matching of dates for 50% of my time spent namechanging and my fifth Spiderweb anniversary. I decided to do something to commemorate it and made a suitably ambiguous post without having decided what to do. Many good suggestions were made here, but I ultimately decided to sacrifice the one thing that's been with me since the very beginning.

No, you may not have it.

Since I have trouble letting anything go, however, I expect this resolution to have an even shorter duration than Alec's previous departures from Spiderweb, possibly including the ironic ones. This may even be shorter than Aran's departure.

(Now I don't know how to write without a signature. I want to make a comment about possibly creating another account just for using the gimmick, but I have nowhere to put it. Parentheses aren't an acceptable substitute!)

—Alorael, who retracts thoroughly. No half measures are acceptable!

Wow, Alo. You gave us a good scare... or... well me anyway. I may still be fairly new here, but it'd be weird with you gone.

Why not switch to having a Preamble to every post? If it doesn't work you can always switch back to Postambles.

Alorael is not going to be signing his posts with his pithy, self-referential, characteristic signature anymore?

I can't actually write this way. The signatures are too ingrained.

—Alorael, whose resolution lasted less than 24 hours. He really is a Spiderwebber. Maybe he should have saved it for New Years.

Imagine what the world would be like if we all stuck to our resolutions... everybody would stop smoking, lose a hundred pounds, give more money to charity... and the economy would collapse. :P

Welcome back, then.

(The shark line was the funniest part of this thread)

That's funny... I don't remember ever resolving to do any of those things. Especially not the "lose a hundred pounds" one. Given that it would drop my weight to about thirty pounds, it sounds like a really slow, painful way for me to die. :P

But it gives Dikiyoba a great idea. This New Year's, Dikiyoba will resolve to give up smoking. Dikiyoba doesn't smoke, so, provided that Dikiyoba doesn't spontaneously combust, it's a shoo-in!

Edit: Fixed quote.

Last year someone bought me a pewter goblet for Christmas and my New Years resolution was to drink out of it as often as possible. I kept my resolution. Unlike some people...

Well, someone must have kept their resolution to bring the economy down.

Thanks Ephesos for reminding me to glorify my own witticisms and set them into virtual limestone for posterity.

By the way, I think that will be my New Year's resolution: take every, and I mean every, opportunity to give myself Stephen Colbert style gravitas.
