Not quite sure how to do this, but... Nioca (NYE-oh-kuh). Fairly simple, really. [ Friday, November 24, 2006 17:49: Message edited by: Nioca ] -------------------- I tried to think of something witty to put here. Needless to say, I failed. Posts: 2686 | Registered: Friday, September 8 2006 07:00 |

Dgnoewngosdv. Actually, it's dine-TIER-ah-DAN, as per Sindarin pronunciation rules. Hopefully, now that you know how to pronounce it, you'll know how to spell it. -------------------- Judge: You are charged with habitual drunkenness. Have you anything to say in your defense? Well I learned something new today. I always thought Nioca was pronounced Nee-oh-kuh. -------------------- Thuryl: I mean, most of us don't go around consuming our own bodily fluids, no matter how delicious they are. ==== Alorael: War and violence would end if we all had each other's babies! ==== Drakefyre: Those are hideous mangos. Maybe it is; "ni" is still ambiguous. Nee or nye? -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! Posts: 9973 | Registered: Saturday, March 30 2002 08:00 |

Sorry. I capitalized the first letter out of habit. The i's were lowercase to begin with though. :P -------------------- "You're drinking liquor because you're thirsty? The Stew Boy is pronounced 'The STEW Boy'. It'll probably take you a while to learn this, as it is very complicated. But if you practice enough, you'll get it. Posts: 587 | Registered: Tuesday, April 1 2003 08:00 |

Dee-kee-yo-buh. Originally by Dintiradan: quote:Dikiyoba has been pronouncing it wrong for months. But Dikiyoba has also been spelling it right for months, so maybe Dikiyoba will continue to pronounce it incorrectly. Posts: 4346 | Registered: Friday, December 23 2005 08:00 |

Say it however you like. It doesn't come up in non-written conversation much. Please recognize that the A comes before the E, so you can pronounce it as a long A (I can't think of any examples), a long, British E (Encyclopaedia), a short E (Michael), an English only A sound (Hwæt, which rhymes bat) or a pair of vowels (Raphael). —Alorael, whose current moniker is appropriately enough from the last time this came up. He stated that his name, properly spelled, would be pronounced with an ash and that the l really should be an eth or a thorn. That is probably not right, because anyone who pronounces an L as any variety of "th" is clearly crazy. Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

I tried transcribing mine in IPA but UBB doesn't like unicode. It's the first syllable of "wizard" followed by the element arsenic. I'd imagined most other PDNs differently: nee-OH-ka. din-TIH-ruh-DAN (although my accent transforms the nasal ash in "dan" to a diphthong of "e" and schwa). Thuryl the same as the sound file but with the last vowel a schwa instead. tih-RAN-ih-cus. That's a schwa in "cus." Same deal applies to "ran" as in "dan." dicky-YO-ba. YO-ba sounds like Yoda. Alorael sounds like allocate, but with "rail" (as in railway) instead of "cate." That's general American, so the vowels are an ash, a schwa, and a close-mid front unrounded vowel respectively. -------------------- 5.0.1.0.0.0.0.1.0... I'm also guilty of pronouncing Dikiyoba as DICK-e-yo-ba. Sometimes it would run together and I would drop the y as well. Also, I always though Alorael was four syllables: a-LO-ray-el. Perhaps this way of pronouncing it is also the reason why I initially thought he was a girl. Nioca still has me confused. Can someone explain how to pronounce 'nye'? Edit: Oh, as for me, it's pronounced EM-pe-rer. [ Saturday, November 25, 2006 00:25: Message edited by: Emperor Tullegolar ] -------------------- You lose. The angels had -iel and -ael as suffixes before the girls did! Just think of me as the Alor of God. It makes more sense if you've either studied your Bible or studied your Hebrew or both. —Alorael, who thinks "nye" rhymes with "eye" and probably should have been written "nigh" for clarity. quote:The second angel that came to mind when you said that was Michael. I wonder if anyone ever pronounced Alorael as a-lor-ul. As for 'nye,' if it really is pronounced 'nigh' then 'nie' would have done just fine. Oh, and Jewels, why did you write it out jew-el when it is clearly pronounced jool? -------------------- You lose. Posts: 2156 | Registered: Thursday, August 24 2006 07:00 |

Why would you pronounce it 'knee'? After all, you got die, pie, and tie... I can't imagine why nie it would become nee. Unless... have you been reading something Chinese lately? And I think two syllable jewel would be written ju-wel, not jew-el. -------------------- You lose. Posts: 2156 | Registered: Thursday, August 24 2006 07:00 |
