Say it however you like. It doesn't come up in non-written conversation much. Please recognize that the A comes before the E, so you can pronounce it as a long A (I can't think of any examples), a long, British E (Encyclopaedia), a short E (Michael), an English only A sound (Hwæt, which rhymes bat) or a pair of vowels (Raphael). —Alorael, whose current moniker is appropriately enough from the last time this came up. He stated that his name, properly spelled, would be pronounced with an ash and that the l really should be an eth or a thorn. I tried transcribing mine in IPA but UBB doesn't like unicode. It's the first syllable of "wizard" followed by the element arsenic. I'd imagined most other PDNs differently: nee-OH-ka. din-TIH-ruh-DAN (although my accent transforms the nasal ash in "dan" to a diphthong of "e" and schwa). Thuryl the same as the sound file but with the last vowel a schwa instead. tih-RAN-ih-cus. That's a schwa in "cus." Same deal applies to "ran" as in "dan." dicky-YO-ba. YO-ba sounds like Yoda. Alorael sounds like allocate, but with "rail" (as in railway) instead of "cate." That's general American, so the vowels are an ash, a schwa, and a close-mid front unrounded vowel respectively. -------------------- 5.0.1.0.0.0.0.1.0... I'm also guilty of pronouncing Dikiyoba as DICK-e-yo-ba. Sometimes it would run together and I would drop the y as well. Also, I always though Alorael was four syllables: a-LO-ray-el. Perhaps this way of pronouncing it is also the reason why I initially thought he was a girl. Nioca still has me confused. Can someone explain how to pronounce 'nye'?
