I have often thought about how great it would be to be able to make crystal souls out of people in real life. Naturally, I tend to think of myself, and how it would be a means for me to achieve immortality.

But I have a question for you all. What one person, living or dead, would have as a crystal soul, so that the world could take advantage of their wisdom for the rest of time?

Pre-mercury Newton.

Oh, and Mark Twain.

—Alorael, who can see some problematic repercussions of having immortal politicians. The Supreme Court could become very moribund.

I realize that this is not an answer to the question, but I have come to believe that Alorael may or may not be a Crystal Soul.

Think about it for a second: a singular being of indeterminate age and limitless wisdom, who refuses to give any sort of physical identity, and lives nowhere near anyone else on the boards...

Ah, the joys of being a conspiracy theorist.

Why? Because the Silent Assassin wants the chance to kill him slowly.

i agree with Alorael that politicians shouldn't become crystal souls, especially not George W. Bush, the Chevyn of the American presidents.

It should be scientists like Albert Einstein or humorists like Will Rogers and Ambrose Bierce so we can continue to gain from them,

I retroactively nominate (as member of the Whitean Order I am entitled to do that) Leonardo da Vinci, Isaac Asimov, Douglas Adams and John R.R. Tolkien.

Now that I'm not double-posting...
I'd like to say to Aran that I hate you for stealing three of my nominations (I hadn't thought of Asimov. good choice), and add Cicero and Machiavelli to the list.

I'd also like to add that immortal politicians would also mean that we'd probably have to change the age restrictions on certain positions of high authority. Thurmond? He was a young guy.

Damn. I liked where you were going with this, until you got there. Alorael would make the perfect crystal soul from ZKR. Confused, tortured, insane, twisted, cruel and always eager to spout gibberish at anyone foolish enough to enter his domain. Oh, I've just been informed that the gibberish is in fact some language called Spanish. But the rest still goes.

:P

I dunno. It's far from clear that Newton or Einstein, or Tolkien for that matter, really had much more to contribute.

These people were brilliant, but my theory of genius is that it's not really a character trait. It's having great ideas. And great ideas are already crystal souls.

I think it'd be rather intresting to have Attila, Tsingis Kan, Nero and Stalin as crystal souls...

Douglas Adams sure had. I hated reading that last unfinished book.

But I like the analogy of ideas and Crystal Souls. Quite true - who needs an immortal crystal when you have immortal books?

Newton and da Vinci are widely acclaimed as the smartest people ever. It's hard to know whether that's true or not, but I figure smart people are always useful.

—Alorael, who is also quite sure that Leonardo could have kept churning out ideas. They may have become more and more Leonard da Quirm-esque, but they'd still be ideas.

What? Where is Lovecraft?!

Why seek immortality for one who never died? Lo, Howard dwells amid the barnacled towers of forgotten R'lyeh, and when the time comes, he shall rise with Great Cthulhu in the end of the world! Iä! Iä! Lovecraft fhtagn!

I was always under the impression that Crystal Souls were not immortal but had extended life. I think you can find it in A3 when asking one of the Crystal Souls what it's like to be a Crystal Soul.

Oh yeah, my list. In no particular order:(sorry if I spell any of these wrong)
Gallileo
Archimedes
Leonardo Da Vinci
Isaac Newton
Thomas Edison
Albert Einstein

I think it would be a horrid fate to bestow on anyone - being trapped forever without a means to act in the world! That said, I think the world could have done with the immortal guidance of Augustus.

TM to flame generations to come about how BoE is the best game ever and how new computers must be designed to run it. Ever time he gets banned he gets sent to an island like the other flawed crystal souls.

I think Roald Dahl might have written something about this.

Also, did anyone hear any mention of a Crystal Soul dying naturally? I've assumed they were as close to immortal as would make no further difference in a finite universe...
