So you closed my topic (Genevernum)!
I just wanted to say I really didn't want to bore anyone or anything, but you know it's hard for someone who just arrives to know all the topics and what to say or what not, etc.

It would be quite cool if there was a thread or something where there would be forbidden topics, old topics, ancient topics, overabused topics, ... LISTED
If there indeed exist such a place, please tell me!!!!!

EDIT: Added the word listed, for clarity's sake.

You can page through old topics a little to see what has been said quite a lot recently. Anything relating/comparing/contrasting Spiderweb's series (GF, Av, Ex) has been done to death. Online play has been talked to death.

But really, there's no shame in creating a topic that gets locked. Just try not to take offense when people say, "I'm sick of talking about this."

I'm not sure that this applies to you, but I'm pretty sure that there's been times when topics have been locked that were completely the fault of someone besides the starter of that topic.

There's no shame in getting a topic locked. It happens for several reasons:
1. It's all spam.
2. Someone starts a flamewar.
3. The mods whims.

For example, this topic will probably be locked because 1.

The mods could always post a thread of what they don't want to see as topics anymore.

Some topics get locked just because they wander too far from the original topic into something the mods and Jeff don't like.

Rule 1: Don't start a topic that is obviously a posting game.

Rule 2: If you must start a poll, make sure it is well-thought out and not simply thrown together in two seconds.

Rule 3: Now that you've been welcomed, leave your sanity at the door.

Well, locking happens to even the best of us...

This particular instance was a combination of a rather old and overused topic (but you didn't know that) with a bunch of spam.
Generally, the mod who locks it will explain why. I'm not sure why Drakefyre didn't this time, but I'm pretty sure it has to do with Ephesos's post previous.

Most of the time it'll be from something like a flamewar (people sharply criticizing each other for no apparrent reason), a topic discussed all too much that doesn't evolve into anything useful, a spam string (posting for the sake of posting), something that the mods find overly inane, CoC violations, the whim of the Fluffy Turtles, getting TM irritated, your name happens to be Ed, or somesuch.

Anyway, don't take it too hard.
And welcome. If you give up all of your sanity willingly, the Fluffy Turtles don't get violent.

EDIT: I made a blasphemous error.

Ignore my list of reasons. Lenar's is far more comprehensive. "Your name happens to be Ed", is unfortunatly true.

"If thou art foolish, thou art happy!
If thou art happy, thou hast a lot of money!"

Therefore, if you're foolish, you have a lot of money, but not the other way around. The truth value of the converse isn't always the same as that of the original statement. (If the conditionals are true, however, if you don't have a lot of money, you're not foolish.) A logically equivalent pair of statements:

If you're a cat, you're a mammal.
If you're a mammal, you're a vertebrate.

Therefore, if you're a cat, you're a vertebrate. Just plain old being a vertebrate wouldn't make you a cat. XD

Sorry. Couldn't resist talking about logic. ^_^ Welcome to the forum!

They're turtles, that are fluffy. They eat sanity, and huggle people to death. They also enjoy spam. I know more, but you must learn on your own.

Thanks, and I too like to talk about logic.
You're right, I did missuse the if sentence, I'd had to write something like
If and only if thou art foolish, thou art happy!
If and only if thou art happy, thou hast a lot of money!"
From here it could then be deducted that the function that transfers from "foolishnes" to "a_lot_of_money" is bijective and thus the inverse is the same function, therefore it'd be equally correct to say: If and only if thou hast a lot of money, thou art foolish, and since this relation is included in my logical conclusion (If thou hast a lot of money, thou art foolish), the generalization is allowed under the assumption that I don't have a lot of money and am therefore foolish and I have no idea whatsoever what I'm talking about :) :) :) :) :)

Of course I could repair my signature by replacing if relation with a simple equation between the groups ... :D

Turkeyking (They're turtles, that are fluffy. They eat sanity, and huggle people to death. They also enjoy spam. I know more, but you must learn on your own.)
If that is so, I'm very much looking forward to meet them. And I hope I will provide them with a lot of sanity to thrive :)

Edit: By the way, it looks like I have to thank my parrents, since kmy name isn't Ed. :D

I don't think you'll meet the turtles, they'll just sneak up on you. That's why, I think it was Dikiyoba who said it, you were told to leave your sanity at the door. Unfortunately I think no one has done this so far.

Also, so you know, most of us (Alorael being the notable exception) don't type out a signature (the text after the hyphens, except in Alorael's case) with every post. If you look in the upper right corner of the page, you'll see some links, including one that says "my profile". If you click that and then "View/Update Profile", you can enter a signature that will appear in every post you make unless you uncheck the "Show Signature" box below the Instant Graemlins when you make a post.

EDIT: Also, if you try to make this forum an anarchy, you will likely be banned. This is a privately owned forum, and you signed away your freedom of speech when you created your account. Most message boards get a Rebel Without a Clue every now and then. Please do not become one. Just giving you fair warning.

Almighty:
I am fully aware of my profile options, but I just wanted to improvise a little with my signature, coz if I changed it, all the signatures in the thread change, but I didn't like that ...
Sorry if it botheres anyone, it was unintentional of such a cause ...

As for anarchy - if you meant if I wanted to make the forum CHAOS (in the negative meaning of the word), I didn't. If you meant if I wanted to make it anarchy, well, then I believe you missunderstand that word, coz chaos is in no ways equal to anarchy, it is just a possible result of anarchistic transformation, which would be, sadly to say, the most possible result nowadays due to the state of morale amongst humanity ...

But I believe this is not the place to discuss matters of faith and politics, is it?

I don't mean to offend you, or anyone, for that matter, but I belive that, since some folks have some political quotes for their signature or catholic, or other religious stuff, etc. I also believe(d) I have a freedom to use the basic word of my, let's call it, faith, which happens to be anarchy.

If I don't have the right to use the word which never did any harm to anyone (we, the anarchists, are not guilty for misuse of the word by media, hostile politicians, etc.), than please, people, tell me now, and I will voluntarily log out of this forum and won't ever come back, coz I have enough repression and prejudice in the everyday world and am getting tired and sick of it.

ps: also, since my name clearly indicates my belief, and I didn't get banned instantly, and also, I believe, I didn't make any attempt to bomb anybody (since this is the most widely spread lie about the anarchists), I believe that I have every right to be here and be treated equally (or depending on my behaviour towards others). Again, if it isn't so tell me now!

Sorry to talk politics/philosophy here, but I had to reply to what i understood as an unfriendly statement - if it wasn't I'm sorry for misjudging!!!

It wasn't an unfriendly statement. It was a reminder that there are rules here, a fact that some anarchists (not all) forget.

Nice to se that "(not all)" in your statement :)
As for rules, I (try to) follow all the rules really necessary to survive in the world (speed limits, criminal offences (murdering, or stealing from, etc., the innocent), etc.), although I don't call them rules - I rather put them under the subject of logic.
I also put moral values to a high level, for real anarchy, the anarchy I believe in, could never function in a society of thinking individuals if there are no moral values - then it would be rather called nonsenchy, not anarchy. For if you want to have all the freedom you can possibly have, you have to make a compromise, so that everyone has the same amount of freedom, otherwise it's just b***s*** (I can't write the whole words, can I :) :) ).

Ok, enough philosophy, to sum it up - I believe, that everyone should be nice to everyone to start with and then all should be judged solely by their actions ... so don't worry, I didn't set up my account and don't waste my time and money (phone bill), just so that I'd mock people or anything ... So, I reacted as I did just coz I smelled predjuce. If it wasn't I said I was sorry.

I just believe in what I find the most righteous and so on ... I think I can do that, can't I?

So let's all shake hands and not talk politics anymore, you can rather email me if you want to talk about it or start a new topic (don't worry, I'll be amongst the first to reply :D )

:)

Btw: If I understood correctly - there's nothing wrong with my signature, you were obnly worried, right??
