Really Nik, this supposed "race" is nothing but an excuse to conversationally spam up the boards. Which, it turns out, is completely on topic. -------------------- quote: Posts: 4114 | Registered: Monday, April 25 2005 07:00 |

You know, we could prevent the periodic problems with bandwidth and disk space by preventing Thuryl from posting. It's worth considering. —Alorael, who means "very slightly delay" when he says "prevent." But it's probably good enough for an American campaign platform. #21, I actually went from not being in the list, to being #21. That's an accomplishment. Now, I aim to increase my post count more than Synergy's. Yes, it seems almost impossible, but don't underestimate my spamming powers. Posts: 1035 | Registered: Friday, April 1 2005 08:00 |

#12. Right up there with what I have been for a while. I still say I need to post more, but actually spending 2 hours at a time reading the forums just to get >10 posts a day was what I did months ago. -------------------- -ben4808 Posts: 3360 | Registered: Friday, June 25 2004 07:00 |

Why are so many people setting high postcount targets for themselves? Quality of posts is more important than quantity. [footnote]This post's primary purpose is to help people achieve their target postcounts with more posts on this thread.[/footnote] -------------------- Be careful with a word, as you would with a sword, For it too has the power to kill. I'll take the bait and in reply say that it can't possibly be easy for everyone to make their posts high quality. But I'm equally sure that some browsers are set to automatically advance to the ubb=reply section of a thread. It is a conspiracy. -------------------- quote: Posts: 4114 | Registered: Monday, April 25 2005 07:00 |

You have made me want to test that, now, Thuryl. But I better not, it is for the good of the boards. Heres to hoping this is more than one line. I am fascinated by the automatic generation of post statistics. Could we not have automatic posting as well? Push a button for a one-liner - push it twice to avoid upsetting Thuryl. Next would be automatic reading and reading stats of course -otherwise noby would care to read the spam. Like: Who had this board open for how much time on his display and who moved his mouse the highest amount of pixels across? Grammar algorithm could even anylyse the posts themselves - never mind the semantics of course. Some electric monk comes to my mind.... Edit: This to the posters over three posts above. Please refrain from raping my innocent topic for your personal gain and pleasure. It is not nice. Also, this would be the first statistics topic to get locked. It would set a very bad example. I might just have to discontinue the whole thing. There. I knew that one would do the trick. Is there some irony in Thuryl posting a one-line post threatening to lock the topic if there is one more one-line post? Dikiyoba is confident that this post is over one line long. Posts: 4346 | Registered: Friday, December 23 2005 08:00 |

In an effort to add something useful to this topic, I'd like to say I fiddled around with the graphing script (this one) a bit, fixing some of the more glaring WTFs in the code. While doing that, I had a good idea about how to adjust for post deletions (which make the graph very ugly when looking the full time range). So now, the additional parameter "adjust=on" shows how many posts there would be if nothing had been deleted. Basically, it notices when there's a downward slump in the graph, and shifts all points from there on up by exactly that amount, so the downward slumps disappear. Also, the view is now automatically narrowed down on the actual range of existing data, even if the selected date range begins in 1980 or something. The option "force_scale=on" overrides this. (Note that this option messes up the trend line; I'll have to work around that) [ Friday, February 17, 2006 18:16: Message edited by: Arancaytar the Grey ] -------------------- Encyclopaedia Ermariana • Forum Archives • Forum Statistics • RSS [Topic / Forum] My Blog • Polaris • I eat novels for breakfast. Trend lines are just cool, whether they're needed at the moment or not. The slope of the trend line is used to determine the average number of posts in a given period of time. -------------------- -ben4808 Posts: 3360 | Registered: Friday, June 25 2004 07:00 |

quote:As ben said. The trend line is supposed to measure posts written, not actual posts stored on the board over time.
